Good news for pet lovers! Researchers are now using artificial intelligence (AI) that may soon be able to translate what your cat or dog is saying to you.&nbsp;
Daniel Mills, a veterinary behavioural medicine professor at the University of Lincoln, has highlighted the potential for AI to interpret what your pet could be saying to you, suggesting that AI could teach us much about the pets&rsquo; intentions, according to a report by The Guardian.
The research uses AI to study facial expressions in cats, dogs, and horses using a plethora of videos available online.
Mills said the latest research highlighted the complexity of feline facial manoeuvres, adding that new technology could help to unpick them.
AI's potential in deciphering animal communication goes beyond pets. Researchers, including Briefer, utilize AI to analyze vocalizations in a range of animals, such as zebras, white rhinos, and parakeets. This research explores communication patterns, offering insights into human language skills in comparison to our closest relatives in the animal kingdom.
Mills and colleagues are already attempting to use AI to try to tease out certain emotional states from facial expressions in cats, dogs and horses. He said there was no shortage of videos to work with &ndash; a truth universally acknowledged by anyone who has spent time on YouTube.

Pictures of young girls have been manipulated with AI and distributed in a Spanish town, with several saying the photos were taken from their social media accounts.
Parents of the victims said the girls were originally fully clothed in the now AI-morphed photos, a BBC report said.
While police have launched a probe, at least 20 girls have come forward as targets of the AI-based case.
So far Spanish law enforcement officers have identified 11 local boys, who reportedly circulated the image using WhatsApp and Telegram. All suspects in the incident are aged between 12 and 14, BBC reported.
Police are also investigating an alleged extortion case tied to the AI-generated photos, the report added.
&ldquo;One day my daughter came out of school and she said 'Mum there are photos circulating of me topless,&rdquo; the mother of a 14-year-old victim said.&nbsp;

As per Reuters the task force is aiming to develop AI applications in-house while also seeking partnerships with start-ups. Currently 11 positions are open in Disney that requires individuals who are well-versed in artificial intelligence or machine learning. These roles cover Walt Disney Studios, the engineering division to the theme parks, Walt Disney Imagineering, Disney-branded television and the advertising team.
Disney also believes that enforcing AI would help the company in mitigating the escalating costs associated with film and television production, which can skyrocket to $300 million for major releases such as "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" or "The Little Mermaid." In the theme park arena, Disney thinks that AI can help in better the customer support and create innovative interactions.&nbsp;

India is home to over 5 million software developers who are probably under threat from the impacts of advanced AI tools like ChatGPT

Stability AI CEO Emad Mostaque has predicted that AI will wipe out most of the outsourced programmers in India in two years. Mostaque told UBS analysts that AI impact would make it possible to create a software with fewer people. He also went on to say that the AI models are like talented graduates.
&ldquo;I think that it affects different types of jobs in different ways. If you&rsquo;re doing a job in front of a computer, and no one ever sees you, then it&rsquo;s massively impactful, because these models are like really talented grads&rdquo;, Mostaque said.

He also mentioned that the impact of AI will be felt differently in different places. For instance, France will face lesser impact due to the presence of strong labour laws. He went on to say that in India the situation will be different where outsourced programmers upto level three will be gone in the next year or two.
In India, Mostaque said, &ldquo;outsourced coders up to level three programmers will be gone in the next year or two, whereas in France, you&rsquo;ll never fire a developer.&rdquo;
As per Bloomberg, Over 5 million software developers are in India who are most probably under threat from the impacts of advanced AI tools like ChatGPT. India is home to many outsourcing firms whose customers include Silicon Valley tech giants, Wall Street banks, airlines and retailers.

A panel of AI-enabled humanoid robots told a United Nations summit on Friday that they could eventually run the world better than humans.

As the development of AI races ahead, the humanoid robot panel was split on whether there should be global regulation of their capabilities, even though that could limit their potential.

A panel of AI-enabled humanoid robots told a United Nations summit on Friday that they could eventually run the world better than humans.
But the social robots said they felt humans should proceed with caution when embracing the rapidly-developing potential of artificial intelligence.
And they admitted that they cannot -- yet -- get a proper grip on human emotions.
Some of the most advanced humanoid robots were at the UN's two-day AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva.
They joined around 3,000 experts in the field to try to harness the power of AI -- and channel it into being used to solve some of the world's most pressing problems, such as climate change, hunger and social care.
They were assembled for what was billed as the world's first press conference with a packed panel of AI-enabled humanoid social robots.
"What a silent tension," one robot said before the press conference began, reading the room.
Asked about whether they might make better leaders, given humans' capacity to make errors, Sophia, developed by Hanson Robotics, was clear.&nbsp;
"Humanoid robots have the potential to lead with a greater level of efficiency and effectiveness than human leaders," it said.
"We don't have the same biases or emotions that can sometimes cloud decision-making and can process large amounts of data quickly in order to make the best decisions.
"AI can provide unbiased data while humans can provide the emotional intelligence and creativity to make the best decisions. Together, we can achieve great things."
The summit is being convened by the UN's ITU tech agency.
ITU chief Doreen Bogdan-Martin warned delegates that AI could end up in a nightmare scenario in which millions of jobs are put at risk and unchecked advances lead to untold social unrest, geopolitical instability and economic disparity.
Ameca, which combines AI with a highly-realistic artificial head, said that depended on how AI was deployed.
"We should be cautious but also excited for the potential of these technologies to improve our lives," the robot said.
Asked whether humans can truly trust the machines, it replied: "Trust is earned, not given... it's important to build trust through transparency."
As the development of AI races ahead, the humanoid robot panel was split on whether there should be global regulation of their capabilities, even though that could limit their potential.
"I don't believe in limitations, only opportunities," said Desdemona, who sings in the Jam Galaxy Band.
Robot artist Ai-Da said many people were arguing for AI regulation, "and I agree".
"We should be cautious about the future development of AI. Urgent discussion is needed now."
Before the press conference, Ai-Da's creator Aidan Meller told AFP that regulation was a "big problem" as it was "never going to catch up with the paces that we're making".
He said the speed of AI's advance was "astonishing".
"AI and biotechnology are working together, and we are on the brink of being able to extend life to 150, 180 years old. And people are not even aware of that," said Meller.
He reckoned that Ai-Da would eventually be better than human artists.
"Where any skill is involved, computers will be able to do it better," he said.
At the press conference, some robots were not sure when they would hit the big time, but predicted it was coming -- while Desdemona said the AI revolution was already upon us.
"My great moment is already here. I'm ready to lead the charge to a better future for all of us... Let's get wild and make this world our playground," it said.
One thing humanoid robots don't have yet include a conscience, and the emotions that shape humanity: relief, forgiveness, guilt, grief, pleasure, disappointment, and hurt.
Ai-Da said it was not conscious but understood that feelings were how humans experienced joy and pain.
"Emotions have a deep meaning and they are not just simple... I don't have that," it said.
"I can't experience them like you can. I am glad that I cannot suffer."

The growth of Artificial Intelligence has affected 4,000 jobs in May in the U.S, as per a report by multinational HR company, Challenger, Gray &amp; Christmas. As per the report, this is 4.9% of the total jobs that were cut in the month.
"Consumer confidence is down to a six-month low, and job openings are stagnating. Companies seem to be scaling back on hiring in anticipation of an economic slowdown", said Senior Vice President of Challenger, Gray &amp; Christmas, Andrew Challenger.
As per the report, the leading cause of layoffs in May was due to business closure that affected 19,600 jobs. This was followed by market and economic conditions that accounted for 14,600 layoffs. The report also mentioned that 12,900 jobs were cut with no reasons provided.
From January to March, 4,17,500 jobs were cut that makes it the worst five-month period since 2020. During the Covid-19 pandemic over 1.4 million jobs were lost.

To stop fake news and messages, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has announced a new set of rules for Jio, Airtel, BSNL and Vodafone-Idea. TRAI has instructed the companies to use artificial intelligence spam filters to screen fake calls and messages.&nbsp;
These new rules to be on effect from 1st May 2023. These AI filters will let the users to avoid&nbsp; &nbsp; unwanted incoming calls and messages such as promotions, fraud and more that are received on a daily basis. The AI will catch such calls and messages and block them immediately. The telecom regulatory has further instructed the companies to stop allowing promotional calls from 10-digit mobile numbers that are majorly used by spammers and fraudsters.
As per reports, Airtel and Reliance Jio have already agreed to the new rules. However, these two telecom companies have refused to implement a Call ID feature that will allow users to see the image and name of the caller on their screen before taking the call, citing privacy reasons.

The AI system will be used to make e-governance systems more accessible. This he said at the Business Standard TechTalk in Bengaluru.
"The country will prioritise using AI for governance applications on India Stack, language model Digital India Bhashini, and healthcare. It will encourage the private sector and start-ups to develop AI use cases", said Rajeev Chandrasekhar.&nbsp;
India Stack contains open-source software application programming interfaces of services that are backed by the government. Services that come under India Stack are Aadhaar, UPI and digilocker.&nbsp;
The minister also talked about creating guardrails for technologies like AI. He said that the new Digital India Act, will be the framework of guardrails for ethical use without disrupting innovation. The new Digital India Act will be replacing IT Act, 2000
As per Business Standard, under its IndiaAI programme, the government has conducted consultations with industry stakeholders for launching a datasets programme. The huge datasets held by the government, when organised and made available in a curated form, will become a game changer for the AI ecosystem in the country.

An artificial intelligence enabled robot will act as a lawyer to a defendant in a physical court hearing for the first time.&nbsp;
AI company, DoNotPay, has confirmed to Gizmodo, a technology news platform, that the robot will instruct the defendant on what to say to avoid penalties in the hearing of a speed-violation case in the US which is scheduled to take place sometime in February.&nbsp;
&nbsp;DoNotPay&rsquo;s founder and CEO Joshua Browder told Gizmodo in a phone call.
However, Browder and the company wouldn&rsquo;t provide any further case details to protect the defendant&rsquo;s privacy.
Enabled by DoNotPay application, the bot will listen to court arguments in real time and will advice the defendant via an earpiece.

A new study by Harvard researchers shows how a machine learning model called FINDER (Foodborne Illness Detector in Real time) can be used to identify potentially unsafe restaurants. The new technique was developed by Google. The AI looks at search queries that indicate food poisoning and then traces the restaurant visited by the user. It also calculates the number of people who stopped by a restaurant and then provides evidence of food borne illnesses. FINDER was tested in Las Vegas and Chicago.
