West Bengal BJP's Murshidabad unit has announced plans to construct a Ram temple in Berhampore, days after TMC MLA Humayun Kabir proposed to set up a mosque modelled after the Babri Masjid at Beldanga in the same district.
The BJP said the temple&rsquo;s construction will begin on January 22, 2025, exactly one year after the inauguration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. BJP&rsquo;s Berhampore organisational district president, Shakharav Sarkar, said land for the temple has already been identified, and the project is estimated to cost Rs 10 crore.&nbsp;
"We have already identified a land in Beharampore area and the construction work for the Ram Temple based on the design of the temple on Ayodhya will begin soon," he told reporters.
Kabir, the TMC MLA from Beldanga, had on Tuesday announced plans for the mosque, which he said would honour the sentiments of the region&rsquo;s significant minority population.
His remarks have sparked political controversy, with opposition parties accusing him of attempting to polarise communities for political gain.
The BJP&rsquo;s counterproposal to build a Ram temple is seen as a strategic move to strengthen its presence among the Hindu community in Murshidabad, a district where minorities make up around 75 per cent of the population.
Responding to the controversy, the TMC distanced itself from Kabir&rsquo;s remarks, describing them as his personal opinion.
&ldquo;The TMC has nothing to do with this statement of Kabir,&rdquo; a senior party leader said.&nbsp;
Kabir&rsquo;s announcement has also drawn criticism from the Congress, which accused him of playing divisive politics in a sensitive region.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday offered prayers at the Ram temple in Ayodhya before he began a roadshow in the holy town.
"This is Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first visit to the Ram temple in Ayodhya after the 'pran pratishtha' (consecration) ceremony held on January 22," VHP media in-charge Sharad Sharma told PTI.
The entrance gates to the temple were decorated with flowers, with 'Om' formed with yellow petals. Replicas of a bow and an arrow made using flowers were also seen at various places.
According to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, Ram Lalla seated in the temple wore a light pink attire on Sunday.
Voting in the Faizabad Lok Sabha seat, under which the Ayodhya district falls, will take place in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections on May 20.
The prime minister embarked on the roadshow after offering prayers at the temple. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the BJP's Faizabad candidate Lallu Singh accompanied him.

Chief Medical Superintendent of the Ayodhya district hospital Dr Arun Prakash Shrivastava said, "We have been asked to be ready to deal with Covid-19. So we have established four special quarantine wards in the district hospital, where we will quarantine the foreigners for 14 days if symptoms of Covid-19 are found in them during their Ayodhya visit on Ram Navami, which is on April 17." When asked about the Covid-19 testing facility in Ayodhya, the chief medical superintendent said, "We have no such instructions regarding this situation."&nbsp;

In view of the extreme cold in the district, Ayodhya District Magistrate Nitish Kumar has revised the timings of schools according to which they will operate from 10 am to 3 pm until February 3. The revised timings will be applicable up to class 12 of all the boards in Ayodhya.
Along with this, orders were also given to the concerned to make necessary arrangements for protection from cold during the above-stipulated time of operation of the schools.
This comes as cold weather and dense fog continued to prevail in Delhi and several places in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar on Sunday.
According to IMD, "very dense" fog conditions were reported over Uttar Pradesh at 5.30 am on Sunday. The maximum temperature on both days is likely to reach 21 degree Celsius.

The festival was started in the sanctum sanctorum of the newly constructed Ram temple in conjunction with Ram Mandir trustee Jagadguru Vishvesh Prapann Tirtha.
Govind Devagiri, treasurer of the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, said that the worship of Lord Ram will be done according to Vaishnav tradition. All types of sweets should be offered to him in Rajbhog. Havan will be performed daily for 42 days and along with the havan, various types of mantras will be recited and chanted.

He also appealed to people to cooperate with officials and maintain patience as this would allow everyone to have a darshan of the deity.

For some hours, security personnel drawn from police and paramilitary forces had a tough time controlling the crowd of devotees, many of whom had been queuing up since late Monday night. At least one devotee fainted as the people pushed and shoved their way towards the temple.
As the morning gave way to the afternoon, the crowd swelled to several hundreds of thousands, with people dragging themselves towards the main gateway that faces the Ram Path.
Carrying flags bearing visages of Lord Ram and chanting "Jai Shri Ram", the devotees waited for hours in the biting cold before the doors of the grand temple opened.
"Felt so delighted, my life's aim has been fulfilled. Our ancestors struggled for this and it has been brought to fruition. The arrangement should continue like this and the name of Lord Ram should reign for ages," said Manish Verma, a devotee from Punjab.
An idol of the new Ram Lalla was consecrated at the Ayodhya temple on Monday, a landmark event led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who also gave a clarion call to go beyond the grand mandir's construction to build the foundation of a "strong, capable and divine" India of the next 1,000 years.

The temple town of Ayodhya is all set to welcome Lord Ram with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to participate in the consecration ceremony at the newly constructed Ram Mandir on Monday.
The 'Pran Pratishtha' of the idol of Ram Lalla -- the childhood form of Lord Ram -- will be attended by people from all walks of life, including representatives of major spiritual and religious sects of the country, representatives of various tribal communities and prominent personalities.
The ceremony will begin at 12:20 pm, and according to the temple's trust, it is expected to end by 1 pm. Following this, the prime minister will address the gathering.
"The prime minister will also interact with 'shramjeevis' associated with the construction of the temple," a member of the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, which is in charge of the construction and management of the Ram temple, said.
Prime Minister Modi will also visit Kuber Tila, where an ancient Shiv temple has been restored. He will perform a 'pooja' there, the member said.
The magnificent Ram Janmbhoomi Mandir or Ram temple has been constructed in the traditional Nagara style. Its length (east-west) is 380 feet; width 250 feet and height 161 feet. It is supported by a total of 392 pillars and has 44 doors.
The pillars and walls of the temple showcase intricately sculpted depictions of Hindu deities, gods and goddesses. In the main sanctum sanctorum at the temple's ground floor, the idol of Ram Lalla has been placed.
The consecration rituals for the 'Pran Pratishtha' started from the Saryu river on January 16 and will be completed on Monday afternoon in the 'abhijeet muhurta', according to the trust.
Lakhs of people are expected to watch the event live on TV and online platforms as the central government has announced a half-day off on January 22 and many states followed suit.
Temples across the country have announced special festivities on the occasion.
From Washington DC to Paris to Sydney, events have been also planned in various parts of the world by either the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) or Hindu diaspora groups.
Fourteen couples from various parts of India will be the 'yajmaans' (hosts) for the 'Pran Pratishtha' of the new 51-inch idol of Ram Lalla. The idol was sculpted by Mysuru-based Arun Yogiraj and was placed in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple last Thursday.
The Ram temple has been decorated with "rich stocks" of flowers and special lights and the entire city is drenched in religious fervour.
Streetlights on flyovers have been decorated with artwork depicting Lord Ram as well as cutouts of bow and arrow, and ornamental lampposts carry designs themed on the traditional "Ramanandi tilak".
A multi-layer security cover is in place in Ayodhya for the consecration ceremony, with 10,000 CCTV cameras and drones equipped with artificial intelligence keeping an eye on the movement of people and police personnel in plain clothes deployed at the venue.
Movable barriers with barbed wires attached to them can be spotted at every prominent crossroad in the temple city, as police use them to regulate traffic, especially during VVIP movements.
Multiple NDRF teams trained to tackle chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear attacks, drowning incidents and disasters like earthquakes have been deployed.
While more than 7,000 people are on the list of invitees for the event, the select list features 506 A-listers. Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, business tycoons Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani, and sporting icon Sachin Tendulkar are among the prominent people invited to the event.
Those attending the "Pran Prathishtha" also include people linked to the Ram Janmabhoomi agitation. Almost all opposition leaders invited to the ceremony have declined to be in attendance, with the Congress calling it a "BJP-RSS event".
The consecration ceremony is being held after the first phase of the temple&rsquo;s construction, made possible by a historic Supreme Court judgment in 2019 on the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit. The Hindu litigants argued that the Babri Mosque was constructed at the site of a temple marking the birthplace of Lord Ram.
In 1992, the 16th century mosque was demolished by "kar sevaks".&nbsp;

Ayodhya consecration: notice to Amazon for selling sweets as Ram Mandir prasad

The notice has been issued regarding the sale of sweets on amazon under the name &lsquo;Shri Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad&rsquo;.

The Centre has issued a notice to e-commerce giant Amazon for engaging in deceptive trade practices.&nbsp;
The action was taken in response to a complaint lodged by the Confederation of All India Traders, alleging that Amazon is misleading consumers by selling sweets under the guise of "prasad" from the yet-to-be-inaugurated Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
Amazon has been given seven days to respond to the notice issued, NDTV said.&nbsp;

Battery-operated carts will be made available for devotees visiting Ayodhya to offer prayers at the Ram temple and the Hanuman Garhi temple, officials said on Thursday.
The e-carts or golf carts will offer free rides to the elderly, divyangjans, and pregnant women while the fare for others will be announced soon, they said.
The 650 e-carts, to be deployed till March in the first phase, will be available at the parking lots across the city, Vice chairman of the Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA) Vishal Singh said.
A 'hyperloop model' for connecting the entire Ayodhya is being prepared and the e-cart project is a part of it. In the near future, restrictions will be imposed on the entry of four-wheelers on the Ram Path, a significant thoroughfare in the heart of Ayodhya, and only e-carts will be allowed, Singh said.
Singh said a large number of devotees, including the elderly, divyangjans, and pregnant women, are expected to visit Ayodhya for a 'darshan' of Ram Lalla after the consecration ceremony on January 22.
For the devotees arriving in their vehicles, e-carts will be available at the parking area. Through these e-carts, devotees can visit the Ram temple, Hanuman Garhi temple and other religious sites in the vicinity, he said.
Wheelchairs will also be provided free of cost at the Ram temple for the elderly, divyangjans, and pregnant women, he added.

Meanwhile, as 'Pran Pratishtha' Day approaches, the security in Ayodhya's Karsevakpuram hasbeen beefed up, the area where Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust General SecretaryChampat Rai resides.

As the Vedic rituals ahead of the 'Pran Pratishtha' of Shri Ram Lalla at Ayodhya's temple have entered their fourth day on Friday, the holy fire was lit, which will be followed by the establishment of 'Navagraha' and a 'Havan'.
The 'Pran Pratishtha' of Shri Ram Lalla at the historic temple will take place on January 22. The fourth-day rituals began at the temple today at 9 a.m. with the lighting of holy fire. The idol of Shri Ram Lalla, which was placed inside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple in Ayodhya on Thursday, will be given 'Aushdhadhiwas' (medicinal abode), 'Kesaradhiwas' (saffron abode), 'Dhritashiwas' (Dhrita abode), and 'Pushpadhiwas' (flower abode). Following this, the idol will be kept in saffron and later in grains.
The temple doors will be closed to visitors until January 22 and will be reopened the next day.

The new idol of Lord Ram was placed in the sanctum sanctorum of Ayodhya's Ram Janmabhoomi temple on Thursday afternoon, ahead of the January 22 consecration ceremony.
The 51-inch Ram Lalla idol, sculpted by Mysuru-based sculptor Arun Yogiraj, was brought to the temple the previous night.
On Thursday afternoon, it was placed in the sanctum sanctorum, Arun Dixit, a priest associated with the consecration ceremony, told PTI.
This was done amid the chanting of prayers, according to the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
Dixit said the 'pradhan sankalp' was performed by Anil Mishra, a member of the trust.
"The idea behind the 'pradhan sankalp' is that the 'pratishtha' of Lord Ram is being done for the welfare of all, for the welfare of the nation, for the welfare of humanity, and also for those who contributed to this work (related to the temple).
"Apart from this, other rituals were also performed. 'Vastras' were also given to Brahmins and work has been assigned to everyone," he said.

All central government offices across the country will remain closed for half a day on January 22, due to the Ram temple consecration ceremony in Ayodhya, a Personnel Ministry order issued on Thursday said.
The 'Pran Pratishtha' ceremony of the new idol of Ram Lalla at the sanctum sanctorum of the Ram temple is scheduled for Monday. The ceremony is set to be performed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"The Ram Lalla Pran Pratishtha at Ayodhya will be celebrated on 22nd January 2024 across India. To enable employees to participate in the celebrations, it has been decided that all central government offices, central institutions and central industrial establishments throughout India will be closed for half day till 1430 hours on 22nd January 2024," it said in the order issued to all central government ministries/ departments.
When contacted, Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh told PTI that the decision has been taken in view of the "overwhelming" public sentiments.
"There was a huge public demand across the country regarding this. Decision on half-day closure of central government offices on January 22 has been taken in view of overwhelming public sentiments," he said.
