The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday invited applications for the position of Head Coach of the Senior Men&rsquo;s Team. An official release by the board stated that the applications for the position should be submitted by 6PM IST on May 27, 2024.
The release, by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah further stated that the selection process will include a thorough review of applications, followed by personal interviews and assessments of shortlisted candidates.
Current India head coach Rahul Dravid's term expires after the T20 World Cup in June. The BCCI, in a statement, had earlier informed that the tenure of the next coach will be over 3.5 years -- (July 1, 2024, to December 31, 2027).
Interestingly, door is still open for Dravid as Jay Shah told reporters in Mumbai that Dravid can re-apply for the top job as his tenure is ending in June.
Dravid was handed an extension after the 2023 World Cup. Under Dravid's watch, Rohit and Co. made it to the final of the 50-over World Cup last year.

As per the report, there is consensus among officials that fees for the Ranji Trophy needs to be doubled at the very least. Another idea that has been floated reportedly suggests that a cricketer who has played at least 10 Ranji games be eligible to earn between INR 75 Lakh to INR 1 Crore.&nbsp; Earlier this year, ahead of the IPL, several India players opted out of their Ranji commitments to stay fit for the T20 league, allegedly leading to the termination of their central BCCI contracts.&nbsp; After the announcement of the contracts for the current year, BCCI secretary Jay Shah had also announced higher match fees for those playing Tests for India in a nod to promoting red-ball cricket in the country.&nbsp;

About 10 years after its last edition was played, "active conversations" are taking place between cricket boards of India, Australia and England to revive the Champions League T20, a club-based international T20 competition.
The last edition of the CLT20 was held in India in 2014 with Chennai Super Kings winning the title after defeating Kolkata Knight Riders in the final at Bengaluru, with the edition involving three teams from India, two each from Australia and South Africa and one team side from Pakistan, the West Indies and New Zealand.
As many as six editions of the CLT20 were played between 2009-10 to 2014-15, with four of these being organised in India and two in South Africa. The tournament was won twice each by Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, while Australia's New South Wales and Sydney Sixes won it one time each.
While the cricket calendar remains jam-packed, the biggest challenge would be to find a window for reviving such an event, said Cricket Victoria CEO Nick Cummins, who is aware of the conversations taking place between the three biggest boards in international cricket.
"I think the (earlier edition of) Champions League was ahead of its time. The T20 landscape wasn't matured enough at that point. I think it is now," Cummins told the media during the announcement of its partnership with KheloMore to launch the Melbourne Cricket Academy in India.
"I know that there's active conversations between Cricket Australia (CA), ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) and the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) about (reviving) the Champions League," he said.
"It's just trying to find a window as to when you actually play that, because you've also got all the ICC tournaments as well. It maybe (the case) that the first iteration of the Champions League will be of the women.... (it may involve cricketers playing in the) the WPL, the Hundred and the WBBL," he added.
Cummins said he has been in regular talks with CA's CEO Nick Hockley for the revival of CLT20 but added that BCCI secretary Jay Shah could also shed some light on it.
"I'm constantly talking to Nick Hockley, Cricket Australia CEO, for a Champions League, because I think it's pretty important to bring that back," he said.
"There are talks about it. It's probably a question to ask Jay Shah (BCCI secretary). But certainly, from an Australia cricket perspective, we are very open to the idea of the Champions League. It's just about finding a window in the FTP, but I think that's the next step in the evolution of cricket," he added.
Cummins drew comparison between the club-based international competition like Champions League in football, saying that cricket is in a similar phase of finding the balance between international and club-based competitions.
"We still haven't made out which league is the best. IPL, PSL or the Big Bash? The only way we can show that is by having the Melbourne Stars play Karachi Kings or the Mumbai Indians," Cummins said.
"Our great aspiration is to have the Indian players play in the Big Bash," he said.
"(The) Champions League is well overdue. Look at what Champions League does for football, the World Cup is fantastic and the Champions League is there (too) every time.
"The idea of the Mumbai Indians playing the Melbourne Stars at the MCG would be just as exciting as India playing Australia at the MCG," he added.

The BCCI is set to bar state associations from directly engaging with foreign boards for organising training camps and competitions, making it mandatory for them to route all such proposals through the parent body.

The BCCI was forced to take the decision after a host of state units, including the Delhi and Puducherry, held talks with foreign boards, mainly the associate nations, for hosting them on exposure trips.

The BCCI is set to bar state associations from directly engaging with foreign boards for organising training camps and competitions, making it mandatory for them to route all such proposals through the parent body.
The decision will be taken at the board's Apex Council meeting on March 18.
The BCCI was forced to take the decision after a host of state units, including the Delhi and Puducherry, held talks with foreign boards, mainly the associate nations, for hosting them on exposure trips.
It could be confirmed that Delhi and Districts Cricket Association has received a proposal from the Nepal board.
"State units can surely partner with foreign boards for cricket-related activities but those agreements have to be facilitated by the BCCI as it is the parent body. All proposals must go through BCCI," said a BCCI source.
In the upcoming Apex Council meeting, there will be a discussion on "state cricket associations collaborating with foreign boards for organising cricket", following which the BCCI will take matters in its own hands.
Nepal is expected to be in India for an exposure trip ahead of the T20 World Cup in the USA and Caribbean in June.
The Cricket Association of Nepal officials had a meeting with BCCI secretary Jay Shah last month.
The BCCI has helped associate nations in the past. Afghanistan made India its home base for a substantial period in the pre-COVID era, using facilities in Dehradun and Greater Noida for training and competition.

General Secretary of Cricket Association for the Blind in India Shailender Yadav said appreciation and recognition for blind cricketers have increased in recent times.
"Ex-captain of our blind team Shekhar Naik was conferred with the Padma Shri Shri, ex-captain Ajay Reddy became Arjun Awardee in January this year.
"Hope the BCCI would recognise blind cricket soon, just like other countries like Pakistan, Australia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, New Zealand, England and Zimbabwe," he said.
"Players are receiving financial grants from the Government of India and the state governments, some have got government jobs in Haryana, Kerala, Odisha. We are expecting government job announcements for some more players," he added.

The Maharashtra Cricket Association will be hosting the tournament which will feature six teams, representing East, West, North, South, Central, and North-East zones.
They will be competing in a series of five matches to be played across three days each, which is a day more than the two-day games played in the 2018 season.
The tournament will begin right after the ongoing Women's Premier League, which ends on March 17.
It will start with the quarterfinals between East Zone and North East Zone and West Zone and Central Zone on March 28 with the semifinals slated on April 3.
The final is scheduled for April 9.

The BCCI on Wednesday announced the list of central contracts for 2023-24, with captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja being put in Grade A+ category.&nbsp;

Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer were on Wednesday excluded from the BCCI central contracts after ignoring the board's directive of playing in the Ranji Trophy.
India skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja figured in the A plus category, the highest bracket of the BCCI's central contract.
Six cricketers feature in the A category including R Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya.
Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Yashasvi Jaiswal have got B category contracts.
As many as 15 athletes have been handed C category contracts including Rinku Singh, Tilak Verma, Ruturaj Gaekwad, Shardul Thakur, Shivam Dube, Ravi Bishnoi, Jitesh Sharma, Washington Sundar, Mukesh Kumar, Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh, KS Bharat, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan and Rajat Patidar.
"Please note that Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were not considered for the annual contracts in this round of recommendations," said the BCCI in a statement.
The selection committee has also recommended fast bowling contracts for Akash Deep, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Umran Malik, Yash Dayal and Vidwath Kaverappa.
"The BCCI has recommended that all athletes give precedence to participating in domestic cricket during periods when they are not representing the national team," the statement added.
In a departure from the norm, the BCCI this time has not mentioned the remuneration of the players across the four categories.
Cricketers are normally paid Rs 7 crore per annum in A plus bracket, Rs 5 crore in A, Rs 3 crore in B and Rs one crore in C category, over and above their match fees.&nbsp;

Jay Shah had earlier made it clear that the centrally contracted Indian cricketers will have to play domestic red-ball cricketer whenever they are available or asked to do so by the selection committee.
While Ishan Kishan has repeatedly overlooked head coach Rahul Dravid's directive to play domestic cricket if he wants to make a comeback, few other cricketers including Shreyas Iyer and Deepak Chahar skipped the final round of Ranji Trophy matches that started on Friday.

Unwilling to jeopardise its cordial relationship with the all-powerful BCCI, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has rejected a lucrative 10-year buy-out offer of their franchise-based property 'The Hundred' from former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi, the Daily Telegraph reported.
Modi received a life ban from the BCCI in 2013 for "serious misconduct and indiscipline" related to bids for two new IPL franchises in 2010. Modi left India and has been living in London since then.
Modi had planned the competition in peak English summer between July 1-August 15.
"Modi&rsquo;s representatives met with Vikram Banerjee, the England and Wales Cricket Board&rsquo;s director of operations, who is de facto head of the Hundred, and chief executive Richard Gould to lay out a 10-year offer to buy the Hundred and fund it through private investment. However, the ECB will not be pursuing talks with Modi," the British daily reported.
The ECB isn't ready to completely let go its ownership on their flagship property but also at the same time is worried about potential pitfalls of a partnership as "dealing with Modi would jeopardise its relationship with the BCCI." It must be noted that the ECB had received a similar offer from the Bridgepoint Group worth GBP 400 million for a 75 per cent stake in 'The Hundred'.
"At the time, Richard Thompson, the ECB&rsquo;s chairman, said he would only consider offers of a &ldquo;few billion&rdquo; and since then the ECB has pursued a strategy of selling equity in the teams, with the board retaining ownership of the competition," the newspaper further reported.
Modi told Telegraph Sport that "he has lined up investors willing to pump money into a 10-team tournament but told the ECB the Hundred format does not work and should be converted into a Twenty20 competition instead." The team purse as per offer sheet would have been USD 10 million per season (roughly INR 83 crore to IPL's INR 95 Cr).
Modi's estimated valuation of the competition was earmarked at USD 100 million a year over 10 years.
In fact, the former IPL czar had advised ECB not to invite more than two IPL franchises to own teams.
His mantra was "franchises should be English owned and English run with minimal input from India." Modi had been in touch with English cricket establishment for the past 18 months and wanted to make it second biggest league after IPL.
"I would give them a guarantee of a billion dollars," Modi told Telegraph Sport.
"A lot of people have been in touch with me interested in backing it and I made a proposal to the ECB but it had a lot of conditions. The Hundred format does not work and there should only be two franchises sold to Indian buyers. It will only work if it is an English competition and not Indo-centric," he said.

India's centrally contracted players will have to mandatorily play red-ball cricket in the domestic circuit and the BCCI will not tolerate any excuses for the same, said Secretary Jay Shah here on Wednesday.
Interacting with the media on the sidelines of the renaming of the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Shah said the chairman of selectors will be given a free hand to take a call on his own if a player refuses to follow instructions given by the team management.
It was reported by PTI earlier that the BCCI will be making it mandatory for Indian players to appear in the Ranji trophy for at least three or four matches in case they wish to play in the IPL.
"They have been informed on the phone already and I'm going to write letters as well that if your chairman of selectors, your coach and your captain are asking for it then you will have to play red-ball cricket," Shah told the media.
However, Shah said it was to happen per the guidance from the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore.
"Whatever advice we get from the NCA, say suppose somebody's body is not able to handle both white-ball and red-ball cricket,&nbsp; so we do not want to impose anything in that regard," he said.
"It applies to whoever is fit and young, we are not going to tolerate any other tantrums. This message is for all centrally contracted players," said Shah providing further clarity.
"Everyone will have to play, otherwise, the chairman of the selection committee has given me his suggestions and I am going to give him a free hand to let him take his calls freely," he added.
Shah said it was important to back the players when they need leave for personal reasons, as in the case of batting maestro Virat Kohli, who has made himself unavailable for the ongoing five-match Test series against England.
"If somebody is asking for a personal leave in 15 years then it is his right to ask for it. Virat is not that kind of a player that he would ask for a leave without any reason. We must back and trust our players," he said.
But the BCCI secretary did not give any details if Kohli, like Rohit Sharma who was confirmed as the T20 captain for the upcoming World Cup, would be available for the showpiece event.
"We will talk about Virat later," Shah said.
Mohammed Shami is also among the players who are currently on a comeback trail after suffering injuries and Shah said information will be provided whenever the bowler is fit.
"We will inform you when Shami gets fit," he said.

KL Rahul missed the 2nd Test due to quadriceps strain and the BCCI had named him in the squad for the 3rd Test but his availability was subject to fitness.

"Players cannot simply prioritize international cricket or the IPL. They must make themselves available for domestic cricket and honour their commitments to their respective state teams," a BCCI official familiar with the decision told Cricbuzz.
The ruling may be directed towards players like Ishan Kishan, Krunal Pandya, Deepk Chahar and a few others. Ishan took a break from international cricket in December 2023 and hasn't played any Ranji Trophy game for Jharkhand since then. He however, was seen training with the Pandya brothers in Baroda.
Despite backlash, Ishan has stuck to his choice to focus on IPL preparations.

In an interview with Sports Tak, he said, "Whenever T20s are being talked about, I don't understand if I am in the scheme of things or not. But I believe that there's IPL before the T20 World Cup. I don't know what will happen but playing T20 matches before the World Cup will help you show what your rhythm and performance is. If the team management likes what it sees, I am available for selection."

After major success of IPL and with an aim to boost Tier-2 cricket league, BCCI is planning to introduce franchise based T10 league which is the shortest format of the game. As per the reports in moneycontrol.com, BCCI working on a blueprint for the proposed league, and stakeholders, including potential sponsors have agreed to the idea. The board has identified a window between September and October to slot the new cricket league.
IPL setting a benchmark for new leagues
With its fast-paced T20 style, the IPL increased cricket's popularity in 2008. In addition to attracting top players to India, the IPL developed a devoted fan following and brought a significant amount of money for the board through sponsorships and television rights. Due to its popularity, other countries launched franchise based tournaments such as BBL, CPL, PSL and many more and that led to increasing the game's appeal on a global scale.
BCCI mulling over several issues related to T10 league
Ahead of introducing the shortest format of Cricket, BCCI is mulling over a few important points and that are:-

England a roadblock for BCCI?
The cricket board that can possibly challenge BCCI's decision to conduct T10 league in SEP-OCT window is England &amp; Wales Cricket Board (ECB) because these months allow ECB to conduct various cricket tournaments smoothly.
