In a significant step to promote tourism and year-round pilgrimage in Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the Winter Char Dham Yatra with a special puja at the Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath, the winter abode of Baba Kedarnath. The Chief Minister prayed for the prosperity of the people and the holistic development of the state.
As part of his visit, CM Dhami assessed the arrangements made for the Winter Char Dham Yatra and directed officials to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience for devotees. Highlighting the initiative&rsquo;s potential, he stated that opening the Char Dham pilgrimage in winters would boost tourism, attract visitors throughout the year, and bring attention to other lesser-known tourist destinations in the state.
&ldquo;This initiative will open new avenues for tourism and provide significant opportunities for economic empowerment of local communities through increased employment,&rdquo; said the Chief Minister.
Ukhimath serves as the winter abode of Baba Kedarnath, while Pandukeshwar in Chamoli district hosts Lord Badri Vishal. Maa Yamuna is worshipped at Kharsali, and Maa Ganga&rsquo;s winter abode is in Mukhwa, Uttarkashi. The Winter Char Dham Yatra allows pilgrims to continue their spiritual journey in these revered locations during the colder months.
The event was also graced by notable dignitaries, including Shrimati Asha Nautiyal, Shri Bharat Chaudhary, and Shri Ajendra Ajay, Chairman of the Shri Badri-Kedarnath Temple Committee.

The threat of land subsidence continues to haunt Uttarakhand with fresh cracks being reported, this time on a key highway.
Fissures have now developed on a stretch of road along the Badrinath highway, amid preparations for the Char Dham Yatra, and announcement of dates for opening of portals of the Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri shrines.
Cracks have appeared on the road between Joshimath and Marwari, according to reports.
It is reportedly used by pilgrims returning from Badrinath, and passes through the main market in Joshimath, which has seen damage to hundreds of houses, and displacement of dozens of families due to sinking of land.

Twenty-five pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh died and three were critically injured on Sunday evening when the bus in which they were travelling fell into a deep gorge en route to the Yamunotri temple in Uttarkashi district.
The accident took place near Rikhavu khadd on the way to the Himalayan shrine around two kilometres from Damta on NH-94, Uttarkashi District Disaster Management Officer Devendra Patwal said.
The pilgrims were from Panna district in Madhya Pradesh, Additional Chief Secretary Radha Raturi said.
Besides the driver and the helper, there were 28 passengers on the bus.
Seventeen bodies have been recovered so far, and a search is on for the rest, Patwal said.
Three people injured in the accident have been admitted to the Community Health Centre in Damta.
Police and SDRF teams have been rushed to the spot, besides ambulances from Badkot, Nagaon and Nainbagh.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the disaster control room at the secretariat immediately after being informed about the accident. He asked the district magistrate of Uttarkashi to speed up relief and rescue operations.
"Officials concerned have been instructed to investigate the accident. May God grant the departed souls a place at his feet and strength to their family members to bear the pain. Also, I pray for the speedy recovery of all those injured," Dhami said in a tweet in Hindi.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan also spoke to Dhami for an update on the situation.
Chouhan said he along with state minister Bijendra Pratap Singh, DGP Sudhir Saxena, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Rajesh Rajora and other officials were leaving for Dehradun from Bhopal.
"I have talked to the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Dhami ji over the phone and requested him to ensure adequate arrangements for the treatment of the injured," he said in a tweet.
"I and my team are in constant touch with the Uttarakhand government and local district administration. The arrangements are being made to treat the injured and bring the bodies to Madhya Pradesh," Chouhan said.
Chouhan said a team of his government from Delhi has already left for Uttarakhand to oversee the arrangements to shift the bodies to Madhya Pradesh and ensure the medical treatment of the injured.
He announced that Rs 5 lakh each would be given to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured persons. "Medical treatment of the injured is our priority," Chouhan added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind and Uttarakhand Governor Gurmit Singh expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident.
"The news of the bus accident in Uttarakhand is very painful. I express my condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is engaged in all possible assistance on the spot," the Prime Minister's Office said, quoting Modi.
"The prime minister has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from the PMNRF for the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the accident in Uttarakhand. The injured would be given Rs 50,000 each," it added.
President Kovind expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased.
"I feel pained by the sad news of the death of people in a bus accident in Uttarakhand," he said in a tweet in Hindi.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Dhami after the accident and said local rescue teams were engaged in the rescue operation, while National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel would also reach the spot shortly.
"It is very sad to hear about the bus of devotees falling into a gorge in Uttarakhand. I have spoken to Chief Minister @pushkardhami on this. Local administration and SDRF teams are engaged in rescue work and the injured are being taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. NDRF is also reaching there soon," Shah said in a tweet in Hindi.
The Himalayan shrines of Yamunotri, Badrinath, Kedarnath and Gangotri are commonly known as Char Dham.

When plastic garbage covers religious places, then national and international tourists and pilgrims will be affected."
Prof MC Nautiyal, director of HAPPRC at the university told ANI, "Tourism pressure on Kedarnath, Badrinath etc has increased a lot. If tourist pressure increases, then throughout the route, plastic and other types of garbage builds up. It can be taken to deeper forest areas by natural elements. There aren't any proper sanitation facilities there. That's why waste usually ends up in nature."
