The Congress on Wednesday alleged that the celebration of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties by India and China is a clear signal that the Modi government has decided to accept the "greatest loss of Indian territory in decades, surrendering over 2,000 sq km of land in Ladakh in the guise of disengagement".
In a statement, Congress General Secretary, Communications, Jairam Ramesh demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should take the people of the country into confidence and explain why he is normalising relations with China.
He said there is consistency in the prime minister's approach which started with his "clean chit" to China after the Galwan incident and alleged that the government has failed to assuage widespread concerns over the India-China agreement that represents a major "setback to India&rsquo;s territorial integrity and national interest".
"We reiterate our demand that the Prime Minister take the people into confidence on this issue of critical national importance and explain why we are normalising relations with China and deepening our economic dependence on them even as our territorial integrity remains so gravely compromised," Ramesh said in his statement.
He said yesterday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Chinese Ambassador Xu Feihong jointly cut a cake to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and China and President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi exchanged greetings with their respective Chinese counterparts President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang.
"What takes the cake is how this is a clear signal that the Modi government has decided to accept the greatest loss of Indian territory in decades, surrendering over 2,000 sq km of land in Ladakh in the guise of disengagement.
"There is a consistency in the PM&rsquo;s pusillanimous approach to China. It started with the infamous public clean chit he gave to China, when he declared 'Na koi hamari seema mein ghus aaya hai, na hi koi ghusa hua hai' on live television, only four days after 20 of our brave soldiers made the supreme sacrifice in Galwan on 15 June 2020," the Congress leader said.
"It continues today in the Modi Government&rsquo;s failure to safeguard our sovereignty while pursuing normalisation with China. More than four months after the signing of the disengagement agreement of 21 October 2024, the Indian government has failed to assuage widespread concerns that the agreement represents a major setback to India&rsquo;s territorial integrity and national interest," he said.
In this regard, he cited several "disturbing facts" that have been reported and alleged that the Modi government has emasculated the very idea of the patrol as a signal of territorial assertion.
Today, he said, Indian patrols need Chinese concurrence to access five locations in the strategically important Depsang Plains (Patrolling Points 10, 11, 11A, 12 and 13).
Chinese concurrence is also reportedly required for patrols in Demchok and Chumar.
"In Galwan, the 'buffer zone' that Indian troops are prevented from entering has been set 1 km inside the Indian claim line. This means Chinese troops are posted close to our claim line while Indian troops are more than 2.4 km away.
"In Hot Spring, the buffer zone has in effect moved the LAC 1-3 km inside the Indian claim line. In Pangong Tso, the &ldquo;buffer zone&rdquo; prevents our troops from going beyond Finger 3 when earlier they could go 10 km further to Finger 8," he said.
This, the Congress leader said, is nowhere close to the status quo that existed prior to April 2020 &ndash; which has been the consistent demand made by our Armed Forces and defence establishment.
Instead, it represents significant territorial losses for India vis-&agrave;-vis our position before April 2020, he claimed.
"Even amidst the Chinese incursions on our sovereignty, our economic dependence on China continues to grow. Chinese imports have exceeded USD 100 billion and are headed higher in 2024-25, with our trade deficit vis-&agrave;-vis China also hitting record highs...," Ramesh said.
India and China have made "promising" beginnings to repair their ties in the last five months and a "durable base" for rebuilding the relations depends on a threefold formula of mutual respect, mutual sensitivity and mutual interest, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said on Tuesday.
As two large neighbours in an important part of the world, a stable bilateral relationship between India and China would contribute to humanity as a whole, he said.
The foreign secretary was speaking at an event hosted by the Chinese embassy on the occasion of the establishment of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
It was for the first time that a high-level Indian official attended an event hosted by the Chinese embassy since the ties between the two neighbours came under severe strain following the clash at Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh in June 2020.
At the event, Misri said, "The path forward may be a difficult one, but it is the one that we are prepared to walk and it is on the basis of these steps that we have already taken in the last five months that we have seen promising beginnings, which we should turn into tangible benefit for the people of our two countries." "This will make today's celebration even more meaningful for the future," he had said.&nbsp;

The Congress on Wednesday claimed the CBI's searches at the residence of former Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel were politically motivated, and asserted it will not be intimidated by such actions.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday conducted searches at the residence of Congress leader Baghel in connection with the alleged Rs 6,000 crore Mahadev app scam, officials said.
The agency teams swooped down at Baghel's residences in Raipur and Bhilai, as well as the houses of a senior police officer and a close associate of the former CM, they said.
The searches also covered the premises of Congress MLA Devendra Yadav in Bhilai town of Durg district and of IPS officers Anand Chhabra, Abhishek Pallava and Arif Sheikh, among others, sources said.
Baghel said the CBI conducted searches at his residence ahead of his scheduled visit to New Delhi for a Congress meeting.
Reacting to the action, Baghel's office in a post on X said, "Now CBI has arrived. Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel is scheduled to go to Delhi today for the meeting of the "Drafting Committee" constituted for the AICC meeting to be held in Ahmedabad (Gujarat) on April 8 and 9."
"Before that, CBI has reached Raipur and Bhilai residences," it added.
State Congress chief Deepak Baij in a post on X claimed the BJP sent the CBI after Baghel and Yadav following all the "failed raids and failed conspiracies".
"Since this morning, the CBI has been camping at the houses of both our leaders, this is nothing but the government's desperation," he charged.
"But remember one thing - neither Congress will bow down, nor Congress will stop. This fight is not just about the leaders, but about every truth which is being tried to be crushed by the power. BJP should remember - truth does not bow down, and the end of injustice is certain," he added.
Senior Congress leader and former state Deputy CM TS Singh Deo also condemned the action and claimed the central agencies have been trying to harass Baghel.
"The attempt by the agencies to harass former CM Bhupesh Baghel ji repeatedly is condemnable. It is only the BJP's failed attempt to tarnish Bhupesh ji's image. The state BJP government is incapable of running the government, therefore it has been making such efforts to divert attention from the issues related to the public," Singh Deo alleged in a post on X.
First the ED, then CBI, the investigating agencies have been acting as the 'B' team of the BJP, he claimed.
"It has become clear that the central agency has only become a weapon to threaten and harass opposition leaders. This action being taken by BJP out of political malice is a violation of democracy," he added.
State Congress communication wing head Sushil Anand Shukla slammed the BJP over the action and claimed the ruling party was scared of Baghel.
"Ever since Baghel has become the party in-charge of Punjab, the BJP is scared. First, the Enforcement Directorate was sent to his residence and now, the CBI has been sent. This shows the BJP's fear. When the BJP fails to fight politically, it uses central agencies against its opponents," he alleged.
"Neither Bhupesh Baghel nor the Congress party is scared," Shukla said.
The people of the country and the state are well aware of these "oppressive" policies of the BJP, he said.
Earlier also, the CBI had lodged a case against Baghel in connection with an alleged seven-year-old (sleaze) CD matter, but the court recently discharged him of all charges, Shukla added.
Recently, the Enforcement Directorate had conducted searches at Baghel's residence in connection with an alleged liquor scam case.
The state government last year handed over to the CBI 70 cases related to the alleged Mahadev scam lodged with different police stations and one case registered with the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in the state.
Baghel along with promoters of the Mahadev app - Ravi Uppal, Saurabh Chandrakar, Shubham Soni and Anil Kumar Agrawal and 14 others - were named as accused in the EOW's FIR.
Baghel had termed the EOW FIR "politically motivated".
Notably, the ED has been probing the Mahadev app-linked money laundering case, unearthed during the previous Congress government in the state.
The ED had conducted multiple raids in the case earlier in the state and filed prosecution complaints (chargesheets) in the case, including against the two main promoters of the alleged illegal betting and gaming app - Chandrakar and Uppal.
The ED claimed in the past that its probe in the Mahadev online gaming and betting app has shown involvement of various high-ranking politicians and bureaucrats from Chhattisgarh, the state where the two main promoters, Chandrakar and Uppal, of the app hail from.
It had said the app is an umbrella syndicate arranging online platforms for enabling illegal betting websites to enrol new users, create user IDs and laundering of money through a layered web of 'benami' bank accounts.
The two main promoters of the app are stated to have been detained in Dubai on the basis of an ED-requested Interpol red notice. The projected proceeds of crime in this case are about Rs 6,000 crore, according to the ED.

In his interaction with American podcaster and computer scientist Lex Fridman, Modi emphasised the need for synchronisation and collaboration to propel global initiatives forward.
He also addressed the relevance of global organisations like the United Nations, noting that their inability to evolve with the times has sparked a global debate on their relevance.
Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said, "Mr. Modi clearly is going out of his way to keep Mr. Trump in good humour."
"He says international organisations, from which India has benefited immensely, have become irrelevant.
"This is the US President's language. In fact, it is Mr. Trump who is doing his best to make them irrelevant and now Mr. Modi is repeating 'his good friend's' chant," Ramesh claimed.

Prime Minister Modi said in the podcast released on Sunday that he shares a bond of mutual trust with Trump and that they connect well because they believe in putting their respective national interests above everything else.
In the podcast, Modi also hailed Trump as a man of courage who took his own decisions and was unwaveringly dedicated to the United States. He said the same spirit was on display when Trump was shot at by a gunman on the election campaign trail last year.
The prime minister said Trump appeared far more prepared than before in his second term.

In Manesar, the only exception to BJP's sweep, independent candidate Dr. Inderjit Yadav, a former BJP leader running as a rebel, is currently in the lead.
While the Congress has mainly refrained from contesting local polls under its own banner, in this election cycle, the party fielded candidates for several posts, notably for the mayoral race in Gurugram.
This marked the first direct face-off against the BJP for the seat.
In response to the Congress challenge, the BJP deployed high-profile figures from neighboring states, including Rajasthan Chief Minister Nayab Saini and his Delhi counterpart Rekha Gupta, both undertaking comprehensive campaigning with door-to-door outreach and vibrant roadshows.
The Congress countered with heavyweights like former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot and Bhupinder Hooda.
Despite these efforts, the outcome was decisively one-sided. In Gurugram, incumbent BJP candidate Raj Rani maintained a substantial lead over her Congress rival Seema Pahuja, boasting a margin of over 95,000 votes after six rounds of counting.
Congress stumbles in Rohtak
Rohtak's mayoral race, theoretically a five-cornered battle involving the BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Indian National Lok Dal, and an independent candidate, witnessed BJP's Ram Avtar securing a commanding victory.

Voting took place on March 2 in Faridabad, Hisar, Rohtak, Karnal, Yamunanagar, as well as Gurugram and Manesar, with by-elections for Ambala and Sonipat's mayoral posts occurring the same day.
Panipat residents cast their votes on March 9. Elections for 21 municipal committees were held concurrently.
A notable decline in voter participation was observed, with turnout at a mere 41%, marking a record low in comparison to the 68% witnessed during the Assembly elections.
Additionally, 26 ward members were elected unopposed, including Kuldeep Singh (Faridabad), Vikas Yadav (Gurugram), Sankalp Bhandari and Sanjeev Kumar Mehta (Karnal), and Bhavna (Yamunanagar).

Taking a dig at AAP's leadership, he added, "Their (AAP) meetings are taking place in Delhi, Kejriwal should have gone there (Punjab). Several of their MLAs are in contact with different parties. They will fall in such a manner and a number of people will leave the party. I would like to urge the high command that we desist from taking their MLAs and ministers."
When asked about reports suggesting that AAP MLAs were in touch with the BJP, Randhawa pointed to Mann's long-standing connection with Delhi. "If they are in touch with them, I think Punjab will be harmed in the future," he said.
Predicting political instability, he stated, "There will be mid-term polls. If a few leaders go to the BJP, then there will be bypolls. Bhagwant Mann has no control... The 2025 Delhi Assembly elections have delivered a historic verdict, bringing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) back to power in the national capital after 27 years.
With the final vote count completed, the BJP secured 48 out of 70 seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) managed only 22&mdash;marking a significant decline from its 2020 tally of 62.
The Congress, continuing its downward spiral, failed to win a single seat for the third consecutive election.

BJP&rsquo;s Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma won by a margin of 4,089 votes, securing 30,088 votes against Kejriwal&rsquo;s 25,999. Congress&rsquo; Sandeep Dikshit finished a distant third with 4,568 votes.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday hailed the people of Delhi for putting an end to the "lies and deception" politics of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) by giving a clear mandate to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assembly elections.
He said that people have put an end to "short-cut" politics of Kejriwal and removed a "major obstacle" in the way of Delhi's development.

"Delhi's mandate also clarified that there is no place for shortcuts or lies and deception in politics. Janata ne short cut rajneeti ka short circuit kar diya (People have short-circuited the politics of shortcut)," PM Modi said while addressing a gathering at the party's headquarters after the resounding victory in assembly polls.
<h3>BJP's Return to Power</h3>
BJP has won 48 seats, while AAP has won just 22 seats against 62 in the 2020 assembly polls.
The BJP is returning to power in the national capital after 27 years, ending over 10 years of Aam Aadmi Party rule.
Several AAP leaders, including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, ex-Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, and three-time MLA Somnath Bharti, lost from their strongholds.
<h3>Criticism of AAP's Politics</h3>
The PM slammed the AAP's politics of "protests, confrontation, and administrative uncertainty."
"Today, you Delhiites have removed a major obstacle in the way of Delhi's development," PM Modi added
. Lashing out at AAP, he said, "The real owner of Delhi is only the people of Delhi. Those who thought of being the owners of Delhi have been confronted with the truth."
<h3>PM Modi on Anna Hazare</h3>
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Anna Hazare must have got some relief from pain following AAP's defeat in the Delhi Assembly election. He added that Hazare had been "bearing the pain of the misdeeds of these people for a long time."
Earlier in the day, Anna Hazare had criticised AAP for their alleged involvement in controversies surrounding liquor and money.
PM Modi said AAP was born out of the movement against corruption but became deeply involved in it.
"The party born out of the movement against corruption got involved in corruption. It became such a party of the country whose Chief Minister and Ministers went to jail on corruption charges. Those who used to give themselves certificates of honesty turned out to be corrupt. This was a big betrayal with Delhi," PM Modi said.

<h3>AAP's Scams and Arrogance</h3>
PM Modi further attacked AAP, stating that the liquor scam had defamed Delhi. "The scams in schools and hospitals troubled the poorest of the poor, and on top of that, their arrogance was so much that when the world was dealing with Corona, these people were building 'Sheesh Mahal'."
Earlier, Anna Hazare had said that AAP did not understand the importance of character in politics, which led to their downfall.
He remarked, "They got tangled in liquor and money - his (Arvind Kejriwal's) image was dented because of it and that's why they are getting fewer votes in the election."

PM Modi also acknowledged the people from East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, living in Delhi, who were instrumental in BJP's victory, noting that he is an MP from Varanasi, which comes under the 'Purvanchal' region.

<h3>AAP's Corruption to Be Investigated</h3>
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also attacked the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over allegations of corruption against its leaders, saying that all links of such charges will be probed and those who "looted" money will have to return it.

"These AAP-da people resorted to conspiracies every day to hide their scams. Now, the Delhi poll verdict has come. I am giving a guarantee that in the first session of the assembly, the CAG report will be tabled. Every link of corruption will be probed, and whoever has looted will have to return it," he said.
Targeting AAP leaders, including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, PM Modi said that those who gave certificates to others are now facing allegations of corruption.
The BJP has also been taking "Sheeshmahal" jibes at Kejriwal. In his speech, PM Modi thanked the people of Delhi for their support and reiterated their relief at making the national capital "AAP-da free."
<h3>BJP's Future Commitments</h3>
Meanwhile, BJP leader Parvesh Verma said that the Bharatiya Janata Party will work to fulfill its commitments to the people of Delhi, with setting up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe corruption under the Aam Aadmi Party government among its top priorities.

"At one point in time, the law and order problem remained in Uttar Pradesh. The major challenge was for women. Dimaagi bukhaar (encephalitis) wreaked havoc. However, we worked with determination to resolve it," PM Modi said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a historic victory in the Delhi Assembly elections on Saturday, reclaiming power in the national capital after 27 years.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) faced a major defeat, with several key leaders, including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, losing in their strongholds.
This win further strengthens the BJP&rsquo;s hold on national politics, following its recent electoral successes in Maharashtra and Haryana.
The Congress, which had hoped for a revival in Delhi, failed to secure a single seat once again, marking its third consecutive zero tally in the assembly elections. The party had previously ruled Delhi for 15 years, from 1998 to 2013.
BJP won 48 out of 70 seats, while AAP secured 22 seats.

Among the prominent AAP leaders who lost the elections were former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Delhi Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj, former ministers Somnath Bharti and Satyendra Jain, as well as party leaders Awadh Ojha and Durgesh Pathak.
Chief Minister Atishi, however, secured a win from the Kalkaji constituency.

"We have done a lot of work in the field of health, education, and infrastructure over the last 10 years. The election results largely aligned with exit poll predictions, which had indicated a BJP victory.
In the New Delhi constituency, BJP&rsquo;s Parvesh Verma defeated Kejriwal by over 4,000 votes. Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit received 4,568 votes. Atishi won from Kalkaji, defeating BJP&rsquo;s Ramesh Bidhuri by over 3,500 votes, while Congress&rsquo;s Alka Lamba secured 4,392 votes.

Sisodia lost in Jangpura to BJP&rsquo;s Tarvinder Singh Marwah by a narrow margin of 675 votes. Conceding defeat, he expressed hope that the winning candidate would serve the constituency well.
Among other winners, Gopal Rai secured the Babarpur seat, defeating BJP&rsquo;s Anil Kumar Vashisht by 18,994 votes. Kailash Gahlot, who had switched from AAP to BJP before the elections, won from Bijwasan, defeating AAP&rsquo;s Surender Bhardwaj.
Several BJP leaders also emerged victorious, including Vijender Gupta from Rohini, Kapil Mishra from Karawal Nagar, and Ravinder Singh Negi from Patparganj.

Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Friday expressed concerns over the sharp rise in new voters in Maharashtra, particularly between the 2024 Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections.&nbsp;
He highlighted that 39 lakh new voters were added within just five months after the Lok Sabha polls, a significant jump compared to the 32 lakh added over five years between the 2019 Vidhan Sabha and 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

"In five years between Vidhan Sabha 2019 and Lok Sabha 2024 elections, 32 lakh voters were added to the electoral rolls in Maharashtra. However, in a period of five months between Lok Sabha 2024 and Vidhan Sabha 2024, 39 lakh new voters were added. The question is: who are these 39 lakh people?"
Gandhi also pointed out a statistical inconsistency, stating that Maharashtra's adult population, as per government records, stood at 9.54 crores, while the Election Commission's data indicated a higher number of registered voters than the total adult population.&nbsp;
"According to the government, the adult population of Maharashtra is 9.54 crores. According to the Election Commission, there are more voters in Maharashtra than people in the state. Somehow, voters were suddenly added in Maharashtra," he remarked.
Further, he noted that the number of votes received by Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP-SCP remained consistent across both elections. "We got the same amount of votes. Congress vote in Lok Sabha 2024 in a constituency is 1.36 lakh votes and in Vidhan Sabha, we get 1.34 lakh," he said.&nbsp;
However, he pointed out that 35,000 new voters were added in certain constituencies, which helped the BJP secure victory in the Assembly elections.&nbsp;
"BJP in Lok Sabha gets 1.9 lakh votes, and then in Vidhan Sabha, they get 1.75 lakh votes. Most of those voters who provided the BJP their victory come from those 35,000 new voters who have been added. It is the case in multiple constituencies," he asserted.
Gandhi demanded that the Election Commission provide the voter lists for both the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections.&nbsp;

The opposition party&rsquo;s remarks follow the BJP-led Uttarakhand government&rsquo;s recent implementation of a UCC in the state and Gujarat&rsquo;s decision to form a committee under a retired Supreme Court judge to assess the need for such a code and prepare a draft bill.
Congress general secretary in-charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh, criticized the Uttarakhand UCC, calling it a &ldquo;poorly drafted piece of legislation&rdquo; that is intrusive and does not address genuine concerns over family law reforms. &ldquo;This is not an instrument of legal reform but a part of the BJP&rsquo;s divisive agenda,&rdquo; Ramesh said in a statement.
Highlighting the Gujarat government&rsquo;s recent move to introduce a UCC, Ramesh noted that the Uttarakhand law exempts scheduled tribes, raising questions about its uniformity. He pointed to the 21st Law Commission&rsquo;s 2018 report on family law reform, which stated that enforcing a UCC at this stage was "neither necessary nor desirable." Two exit polls, however, predicted a victory for the Aam Admi Party (AAP), and as many showed a close contest between them, with an edge for the BJP.
The Election Commission will announce the official results after the counting of on February 8.&nbsp;
Exit polls are projections made by election survey agencies based on interviews of voters as they come out after casting their votes. These may vary widely from the actual results. In the 2020 Delhi polls, most exit polls got their predictions wrong.&nbsp;
Among the exit polls that predicted a BJP victory, the People's Pulse showed the NDA was likely to get 51 to 60 seats, while the AAP may get 10-19 seats. The Congress, it claimed, will not be able to open its account.
According to People's Insight exit poll, the NDA is likely to get 40 to 44 seats, the AAP 25 to 29 seats, and the Congress 0-1 seat.&nbsp;
The P-Marq exit poll predicted 39-49 seats for the BJP and its allies, 21-31 seats for AAP and 0-1 for the Congress.&nbsp;
The JVC exit poll said the BJP and allies would get 39-45, the AAP 22-31 seats and the Congress 0-2. Similarly, the Poll Diary predicted 42-50 seats of the BJP and allies, while giving the AAP 18-25 seats, 0-2 for the Congress and 0-1 for others.&nbsp;
Chankya Strategies exit poll said the BJP and allies are likely to get 39-44 seats, the AAP is likely to get 25-28, while Congress may get 2-3.&nbsp;
Two surveys predicted AAP's victory - Wee Preside, which gave 46-52 sets for AAP, 18-23 for BJP and 0-1 for Congress, and Mind Brink Media predicted 44-49 seats for AAP, 21-25 for BJP and 0-1 for the Congress.&nbsp;
Matrize exit poll predicted a close contest, giving the BJP led NDA 35-40 seats, while the AAP was said to get 32 to 37 seats. The survey gave Congress 0-1 seats.&nbsp;
The DV Research exit polls predicted 26-34 seats for the AAP, and 36-44 for the BJP and allies, giving zero seats to the Congress.&nbsp;
In the 70 member Delhi assembly, 36 is the majority mark. The AAP currently has 62 MLAs, the BJP has eight, and the Congress none. The Delhi assembly polls were held on Wednesday, and results would be declared on February 8.&nbsp;

The highest turnout was recorded in the Northeast district at 63.83 per cent, while the New Delhi district recorded the lowest at 54.37 per cent.
Among other constituencies, Mustafabad had the highest turnout at 66.68 per cent while Karol Bagh recorded the lowest at 47.40 per cent.
According to the ECI, the South West district recorded a turnout of 58.86 per cent, East 58.98 per cent, North 57.24 per cent, North West 58.05 per cent, Shahdara 61.35 per cent, South 55.72 per cent, Southeast 53.77 per cent, Central 55.24 per cent and West 57.42 per cent, as of 5 pm.

In the 2020 polls, Delhi had recorded a turnout of 62.59 per cent while only 56 per cent participated in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The AAP, which is seeking a third term, is facing a strong challenge from the BJP leaving no stone unturned to wrest back power.&nbsp;
The BJP's campaign, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, targeted Kejriwal over alleged issues with the Yamuna water and corruption.&nbsp;
Meanwhile, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra held rallies, accusing AAP of "damaging" the infrastructure of Delhi.

"I heard the President's address. I sat there with Kharge Ji, and I listened to it. I must say, I struggled through the President's address to maintain my attention on what was being said because I had heard pretty much the same Presidential address last time, the time before that, and the time before that," Gandhi remarked.

Although acknowledging that the idea behind Make in India was sound, he stated, "I would not blame this on the Prime Minister; it is unfair to say that he did not try. I think the Prime Minister tried, and I think conceptually, Make in India was a good idea, but it is pretty clear that it failed."
He went on to discuss the broader problem of production in India, asserting that the country has failed in organizing production.
"Pretty much every government since 1990 has done a decent job in consumption. But as a country, we have failed in organizing production," he said.&nbsp;
Gandhi further criticized the reliance on imports from China, emphasizing that many products labeled as "Made in India" are merely assembled in the country, while the actual components come from China.
Holding up his phone in the Lok Sabha, he remarked, "All the components of this phone are made in China. The network that is produced is made in China."
Gandhi urged a stronger focus on domestic production, stating, "So the first message I would give in a Presidential address is to focus completely on production." He warned that without focusing on production, India would face a significant deficit, rising inequality, and various economic challenges.
He also highlighted the ongoing revolution in electric vehicles and energy production, noting, "We are moving from petrol to batteries. We are moving to wind, solar, and potentially nuclear energy."&nbsp;
Reflecting on past achievements, Gandhi recalled how the Congress government successfully harnessed the computer revolution, stating, "The government of India had a clear focus; we looked at that revolution. It was a Congress government, and we decided we were going to focus on the development of software, and we rode that wave of that revolution."
Gandhi concluded by referencing the Russia-Ukraine war, framing it as part of a broader technological shift.&nbsp;
"The actual war is between an internal combustion machine and the motor. The electric motor is inside the drone, and the machine is in the tank," he said, noting how drones are now replacing traditional tanks in warfare.

Delhi has a total of 1,55,24,858 registered voters, marking a 1.09% increase since the last electoral roll update on October 29, 2024. He pointed out inconsistencies in the Finance Minister&rsquo;s announcements, stating that while Sitharaman initially declared no taxes for income up to ₹12 lakh, she later introduced a 10% tax slab for earnings between ₹8 lakh and ₹12 lakh.
Meanwhile, the Finance Minister announced several initiatives aimed at Bihar, including the establishment of a Makhana Board to support production, processing, and marketing of foxnuts. "The board will provide handholding and training support to Makhana farmers and ensure they receive the benefits of all relevant government schemes," she stated.
Further, she revealed plans for new Greenfield airports in Bihar, alongside the expansion of Patna Airport and the development of a Brownfield airport in Bihta. Sitharaman emphasized, "These projects will meet the future needs of the state."
She also announced financial support for the Western Kosi Canal ERM project, benefiting farmers cultivating over 50,000 hectares in Bihar&rsquo;s Mithilanchal region.&nbsp;
Additionally, the government will establish the National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Management in Bihar to boost food processing activities across the Eastern region.

Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), sharply criticized Congress, accusing the party of "collaborating" with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to defeat AAP.&nbsp;
In a video address on Thursday, Kejriwal claimed, "Congress is not contesting elections in Delhi to win, but they are collaborating with the BJP so that AAP loses."

Kejriwal referred to a recent interaction with Congress supporters, in which he was told about internal divisions within the party. He emphasized that Congress, despite a strong chance, lost the Haryana elections due to infighting.&nbsp;
"A few days ago, some people came to meet me, who were supporters of Congress since inception. Even though they said they would vote for Congress, they were also disappointed. They told me that Congress leaders are involved in infighting. They lost the Haryana elections that were in their corner," he explained.
Appealing to Congress voters, Kejriwal urged them to support AAP, stating that Congress leaders rarely criticize BJP, yet often target AAP. He further warned that if BJP comes to power, it would dismantle welfare programs introduced by the AAP government, such as mohalla clinics and free bus services for women.&nbsp;
"They told me that Congress leaders don't say a word against BJP leaders, but they are only busy criticising AAP. I told them that I had worked for them as well and not only for AAP. I told them I provided free electricity and made government schools better. I told them if they vote for Congress, the BJP will form the government (in Delhi). They will shut mohalla clinics, and free bus services for women. I appeal to every Congress supporter that if they vote for Congress, the BJP will benefit. If BJP comes to power, you will not get any facilities provided by our government," Kejriwal appealed.
Kejriwal's remarks came amid the ongoing controversy over his claims about the Yamuna water being "poisoned." He criticized the Election Commission of India (ECI) for rejecting his explanation and sending him a notice. Kejriwal accused Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar of playing politics, alleging he "wants a job post-retirement."&nbsp;
Addressing the Election Commission, Kejriwal defended his comments, asserting that his remarks about the water were made "in furtherance of an imperative public duty." He also pointed out that the concerns he raised should not be seen as an offence, arguing that failing to acknowledge them would set a dangerous precedent, undermining state accountability.
With the Delhi elections scheduled for February 5 and results expected on February 8, 699 candidates are contesting for the 70 assembly seats.&nbsp;
Congress, which ruled Delhi for 15 years, has struggled in the last two elections, failing to secure any seats. Meanwhile, AAP has dominated the 2015 and 2020 elections, winning 67 and 62 seats respectively, while BJP secured only 3 and 8 seats in these elections.
