A woman allegedly killed her one-year-old son by throwing him in a water tank following a dispute with her mother-in-law over the infant&rsquo;s health issues in Maharashtra&rsquo;s Thane district, police said on Thursday.
The incident took place at Kasane village near Vasind in Shahapur taluka on Wednesday and the Padgha police later arrested the woman, they said.
The child&rsquo;s father, who worked as a security guard at a nearby godown, married the woman in 2022.
Last year, the couple&rsquo;s son was born with a congenital illness and has been receiving treatment at the Wadia Hospital in Mumbai, an official from Padgha police station said.
The woman and her mother-in-law were frequently at odds over the child&rsquo;s care and well-being.
On Tuesday, the child&rsquo;s grandmother, concerned about his health, decided to take him to Titwala during a visit to her daughter.
However, the child developed a fever there and his grandmother brought him back to Kasane late Tuesday night, the official said.
Later, a heated argument took place between the child&rsquo;s mother and grandmother over his health condition, he said.
The child&rsquo;s father left for his night shift work after attempting to calm the situation.
When he returned on Wednesday morning, he briefly played with his son before falling asleep.
During this time, the child&rsquo;s mother allegedly drowned him in a water tank located on the first floor of the house, the official said.
Later, when the man was unable to find his son, he began a search for him along with family members and friends.
In the meantime, the child&rsquo;s mother approached police with a complaint, claiming her son had gone missing, the official said.
Her husband grew suspicious and confronted her. The woman then confessed to him that she had killed their child, he said.
The man subsequently contacted the Padgha police and filed a complaint.
The body was recovered and sent to a government hospital for post-mortem, police inspector Bala Kumbhar said.
The woman was taken into custody and booked for murder and other charges, he added.

A fast-track court in Budaun Uttar Pradesh on Friday sentenced a 38-year-old man to life imprisonment for slitting his pregnant wife's abdomen to find the gender of their unborn child.
According to the police complaint, in September 2020, Pannalal attacked his wife Anita, who was eight months pregnant with their sixth child, and cut her abdomen open with a sickle.
The accused wanted a boy as the couple already had five daughters, the police said.
Anita survived the attack but the child had to be aborted, they said. The doctors later informed the family that the aborted fetus was a boy, the police said.
Based on the complaint, the police had registered an FIR against Pannalal under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 313 (causing miscarriage without women's consent) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the police said.
Additional District Government Counsel (ADGC) Munendra Pal told PTI that the police filed a chargesheet against Pannalal.
"The matter was heard in the court of additional session judge (fast-track court) Saurabh Saxena. The court awarded life imprisonment to Pannalal and also slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 on him," Pal said.
Meanwhile, Anita welcomed the court's decision, saying she has finally received justice after waiting for four years.
She told PTI that she continues to live in the same house in the Nekpur locality where she was fatally attacked by her husband, whose parents also live nearby.
Anita alleged that when Pannalal got bail earlier, he entered her house on several occasions and beat her up. He also vandalised the house, she added.
"In his desire to have a son, Pannalal attacked me fatally and killed our child in the womb. Pannalal used to run a sweet shop in the locality and his business was doing good. After he was released on bail after serving two years of jail sentence, he had again opened a samosa shop near the court," she said.
Anita further alleged that she was pressurised to withdraw the case and even threatened to be killed.
She said if her husband had not attacked her that day, his wish of having a son would have been fulfilled.
Anita said she will always be saddened by the thought that her son died before coming into the world but she is happy that Pannalal has been punished for his crime.
She supports her five daughters and herself by running a small grocery shop in her house.&nbsp;

A man was allegedly beaten up, forced to drink urine and wear a garland of shoes after he eloped with a married woman in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain district, prompting the police to initiate action into the incident.
Some videos of the incident went viral on social media but no complaint has been lodged by the man so far, police said.
In one of the videos, the man is seen wearing a garland of shoes and drinking a liquid, believed to be urine, from a bottle as some people shout at him and force him to consume it. He is also seen being beaten up by a woman, with whom he had allegedly eloped.
Another video showed the man licking a shoe held in his hand and being forced to put another shoe on his head.
In the clips, the man is seen with half of his moustache and parts of head shaved off.
Asked about it, Additional Superintendent of Police Nitesh Bhargava told reporters that they have taken cognisance of the video clips, which are three-four days old, and contacted the victim.
"After the videos came to the notice of the police, we proactively contacted the victim's home but he was not present there," he said.
"I have spoken to the victim over the phone and he will be meeting me. After verification of the accused and the place of the incident, legal action will be initiated," he said.
On the reason behind the incident, the official said it is not yet clear and will be confirmed after talking to the victim.
"We proactively contacted the victim but no complaint has been made so far," he said.
According to sources, the issue was about the man eloping with a married woman from the Banjara community of Bhilkhedi village under Bhatpachlana police station limits, some 75 km from the district headquarters.&nbsp;

The man who brutally murdered two children at their home in Budaun knew the family and had gone there seeking money for payment to a hospital where his pregnant wife is admitted, according to the FIR lodged on the matter.
Hours after the murder, the accused Sajid (22) was gunned down in an encounter with the police, IG Bareilly range RK Singh told PTI on Wednesday.
A man who had recently opened a barber shop in the locality entered the house and attacked three brothers -- Ayush,12, Ahaan alias Honey, 8, and Yuvraj, 10, with a knife. Ayush and Ahaan died in the attack, while Yuvraj was rushed to a hospital with grievous wounds.
As per the FIR lodged after a complaint by the deceased's father Vinod Kumar, accused Sajid and his brother Javed reached the house at around 7 pm on Tuesday.
"Sajid told my wife Sangeeta that he needed Rs 5,000 which is required for the delivery of his wife. When my wife went inside to get the money, Sajid went to the roof of the house. Moments later, Javed also reached the roof and they called my two sons Ayush, 12, Ahaan alias Honey, 8 on the roof," reads the FIR.
The accused attacked the minors with a sharp knife. The mother of the two boys saw that the clothes of the accused were drenched with blood when they came downstairs.
"When my wife came out with the money, she saw Sajid and Javed coming downstairs with a knife. Seeing my wife, they said 'I have done my work today' and tried to escape from the spot," reads the FIR.
The accused also attacked the third son Yuvraj who had gone upstairs to fetch water. Yuvraj is admitted in hospital and his condition is said to be stable.
The father of the deceased who is a private contractor was out of the district at the time of the incident. Apart from his wife Sangeeta, his mother was present at the house.
Police have not clarified about the whereabouts of Javed. Police have also not confirmed the motive behind the incident.
Police have booked both Javed and Sajid for murder (under IPC Section 302 IPC) in the FIR.
Considering that the case pertains to people from different communities, a heavy police force has been deployed in the area.

According to forensic experts who visited the spot in Barra police station area, a scientific study of the bones would have to be carried out to ascertain the gender, age and cause of the death, Kumar said. The skulls and bones appeared old, he added.
Additional DCP (South) Ankita Sharma said that the skulls and bones seemed to have been dumped here from elsewhere and that these are remains of some unidentified bodies. "A probe has been ordered into it," she said.

A 25-year-old woman has been hospitalised after she was shot in Kotputli-Behror district of Rajasthan allegedly by a man accused of raping her last year.&nbsp;
The accused, Rajendra Yadav, who was out on bail, had threatened the woman to withdraw the case against him.&nbsp;
&ldquo;Yadav was arrested in the case that time but was recently out on bail. He started threatening the victim to withdraw the case,&rdquo; the first information report (FIR), filed by the woman&rsquo;s family following Saturday&rsquo;s attack, said.
On 24th February, Yadav, along with two accomplices attacked the victim who was returning from work with her brother.&nbsp;
&ldquo;The main accused Rajendra Yadav and his aides, Mahipal Gurjar and Rahul Gurjar, followed the victim and her brother on a two-wheeler and launched an attack. While Rajendra shot the woman in the back, the other two accused also stabbed them. The three then fled the spot,&rdquo; police said.
&ldquo;Since the victim did not withdraw the case, they launched the brutal attack on her last night,&rdquo; police added.
While two suspects have been arrested, the main accused, Yadav, is on the run.

According to a Times of India report, the post was uploaded by a Facebook page named Kohinoor Group.
It showed a young man posing with pistols strapped to a waist belt, while dozens of bullets were seen in the background. The post described the person as 'Pure Badmash, Mainly Criminal 302'.
A mobile number to contact and place orders was also mentioned in the post.
The police said the person's face was not clear but the cyber cell police are trying to trace the perpetrators. They added that the post was uploaded from outside Ujjain.

A woman hailing from West Bengal's Darjeeling was allegedly raped here for a week by her friend who also thrashed and tortured her by "pouring hot dal", police said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Paras (28), was booked for rape, sodomy, and causing hurt. He was arrested on February 2, they added.
The woman had been staying with Paras for around a month in a rented accommodation in Raju Park in south Delhi's Neb Sarai area, the police said.
According to the police, the incident came to light on January 30, when the Neb Sarai police station received a PCR call informing that a woman was being beaten by her husband.
A police team rushed to the spot, rescued the woman and rushed her to AIIMS, officials said.
The woman had around 20 injury marks on her body when she was hospitalised. She was recently discharged, they added.
"When police enquired about the matter, the victim stated that she hailed from Darjeeling in West Bengal and came in contact with the accused over the phone," a senior police officer said.
She befriended Paras and was in touch with him for the last 3-4 months, the officer said.
The woman was supposed to reach Bengaluru in the first week of January as she had got a job of a house maid, the officer said.
As she had a train via Delhi, she decided to take a halt and meet Paras who then asked her to stay here and even assured to help her find a job. On his assurance, she stayed with him in a rented accommodation in Raju Park, the officer added.
However, as the days passed, the accused allegedly started beating her up and even sexually assaulted her for a week, the officer said quoting the victim.
At one instance, Paras even allegedly "poured hot dal (lentils) over her" due to which she suffered burn injuries, the officer added.
Based on the woman's complaint, the police registered an FIR on January 30 under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 376 (rape) and 377 (sodomy) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested the accused on February 2, the police officer further said.
Paras hails from Uttarakhand and worked as a cook at an eatery here, the police said.
Further probe in the matter is underway, they added.

According to the victim's complaint, the vendor told him that he had limited stock available and started hurling abuses at him and pushed him.
The victim added he hit back the momos seller, who then pulled out a knife and stabbed him.
Police said the accused, Vikas, panicked after the attack and left his cart and is still on the run.
A case of attempted murder has been registered against him for injuring his customer and teams have been sent to catch him.
They added that the victim, Rahul, is out of danger and has been discharged from a hospital after treatment.

In a bid to settle scores, a head constable and about a dozen other men allegedly thrashed a student, fired a bullet to scare him and urinated into his mouth one by one, police said on Tuesday.
The men abducted the MCA student named Ayush Dwivedi (23) from the city&rsquo;s Civil Lines area where he had come to meet someone, drove him five kilometers away to Cooperganj where they assaulted him, they said.
This came as a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) was registered against the MCA student in October last year and the complainant was the head constable.
The offenders, who took the MCA student to the railway tracks near Cooperganj after kidnapping him, even forced the 23-year-old to drink their urine as well as lick their spit from the slippers, police said.
The bullet fired upon the Masters in Computer Applications (MCA) student passed close to his earlobe, they said.
Acting promptly, the police have arrested three persons, including a head constable identified as Dharmendra Yadav posted with the Local Intelligence Unit, said Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Nilabja Choudhury.
The other arrested persons were identified as Ayush Mishra (23) and Nandu Dubey (45), both residents of Kalyanpur, he added.
The senior police official said that several teams have been pressed into the task to probe the matter and make early arrests of those who have gone underground.
Choudhury said the head constable has been placed under suspension soon after his arrest, adding it has been decided to initiate a departmental inquiry against him apart from legal action.
Kalyanpur Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Abhishek Kumar Pandey told PTI that the MCA student had come to the Civil Lines area along with his friend Abhishek alias Bittu (22) to meet a girl after getting a request on his Instagram account on Monday.
Ayush saw a car there in which Himanshu Yadav, Shubham Sonkar, Nandu Dubey, Ishant Chauhan, Ayush Mishra, Rajat, Mohit and two others were seated, he added.
The ACP said that before the MCA student could make sense of their evil intention, they took him at gunpoint inside the car.
They then took him to the railway tracks near Cooperganj, where Himanshu also called his father Dharmendra Yadav, a head constable, he added.
The ACP further said that they allegedly urinated into the MCA student's mouth one by one and forced him to drink their urine.
They also fired upon Ayush, who had a narrow escape, he added.
A case has been registered against eight named persons and two unnamed persons under sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 364 (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 377 (unnatural offences) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), police said.

A man allegedly killed his 23-year-old wife in Gurugram and left their two-year-old son locked in a room with the body lying in a pool of blood before jumping to death from a metro station in Ghaziabad, police said on Monday.
Gaurav Sharma (30) allegedly slit his wife Laxmi's throat with a sharp-edged weapon and thrashed her in the head with a brick, they said, adding he also hit his son with a brick.
He fled the scene and later allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the Kaushambi metro station in Ghaziabad, police said.
The alleged murder happened Sunday afternoon after the couple had an argument at their rented first-floor accommodation in the S Block of DLF Phase 3, they said.
Alerted by the cries of the boy, their neighbours informed the security guard who found the house locked and called the police. The police team which arrived at the scene broke the door open and found the woman's body and the injured child crying near it.
The mobile phone of the deceased woman was found from the toilet seat, police said.
"All the circumstantial evidence suggest that Gaurav Sharma, who committed suicide, had killed his wife Laxmi. We have filed an FIR of murder against him," DLF Phase-3 police station SHO inspector Dinkar said.
The woman's body was handed over to her kin after a postmortem, he said.
The injured child was rushed to a civil hospital from where he was referred to Delhi's Safdarjung hospital and was later handed over to the woman's family members who took him to their native place Agra, he added.
According to the police, the two deceased were from Agra in Uttar Pradesh and they had an arranged marriage three year ago.
Sharma worked with a private company but was unemployed these days, they said, adding they moved in their current flat around six months ago.
The accused had fled after the incident and the police were searching for him.
His phone was found out of service, but the police had a break when they got information around 11:45 pm that a person had allegedly committed suicide after jumping from the Kaushambi metro station in Ghaziadab. A police team reached Kaushambi and confirmed that it was Gaurav Sharma, said police.
Trans Hindon Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shubham Patel told PTI the body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem.
Inspector Dinkar of Gurugram said, "The Ghaziabad police taking action in suicide case.

An e-rickshaw driver died in west Delhi's Mayapuri area on Saturday after his vehicle was allegedly hit by a car driven by a drunk officer of the Delhi Police, officials said.
After the accident, locals held a protest outside Mayapuri police station and blocked the road, demanding action against the officer, they said.
According to a police officer, Sagarpur resident Amit Jha was critically injured in the accident and admitted in the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where he died during treatment.
"The errant driver Mukesh Kumar was under the influence of alcohol. He is posted with the Delhi Traffic Police unit and lives in the Mayapuri police station barrack," the officer said.
A case was registered against Kumar under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.
Kumar underwent a medical examination and was arrested, said an officer, adding his traffic unit has been informed for further action.

The duo sent sexually explicit messages to the victim along with some nude photos downloaded from a website. The boss also shared his naked pictures with them, which they used to blackmail him.
The duo sent the photos and screenshots of their sexual chats to the HR department of the victim's firm and to his wife as well.
After three months of sleepless nights, the victim filed a complaint with the police who tracked down the perpetrators.
The victim, however, was not keen to to pursue the case further.

This incident took place in Thalambur near Kelambakkam, a southern suburb of Chennai. Police reported that the 26-year-old Vetrimaran whose name earlier was Pandi Maheswari, called the 24-year-old for a birthday surprise and then blindfolded her.&nbsp;
After this, the 24-year-old was allegedly chained and burnt alive. The victim was a native of Madurai and a software engineer. She had been living with her relative in Chennai.&nbsp;
Tambaram Police Commissioner Amalraj told NDTV, "They were friends and were living together in Chennai. No indication yet of any sexual assault. Whether Vetrimaran had displayed violent tendencies earlier is not clear. An investigation is on."
Police also said that the victim and Vetrimaran studied together in Madurai. The woman continued her friendship with &nbsp;Vetrimaran even after the sex change operation.&nbsp;
The local residents discovered Nandhini, still chained and burning. They immediately rushed her to the hospital, where she died.&nbsp;
Police were quick enough to apprehend Vetrimaran, who faces charges of murder.&nbsp;

Entrepreneur and motivational speaker Vivek Bindra has been booked for allegedly assaulting his wife in Noida, police officials said on Saturday.
The police said they are investigating the allegations and would take action upon probe.
Bindra could not be contacted immediately for his response.
The FIR was lodged at the Sector 126 police station on December 14 after a complaint by Vaibhav Kwatra, brother of Bindra's wife Yanika.
Bindra and Yanika got married on December 6 and were living in a posh society in Sector 94 here, he said.
"On the morning of December 7, my brother-in-law Vivek Bindra was arguing with his mother Prabha ji. When my sister Yanika intervened in this matter, my brother-in-law locked the room with my sister, abused her and beat her a lot, due to which she has wounds all over her body, she is unable to hear, and her hair were also torn out," Kwatra claimed.
"Due to the head wound, she was feeling quite dizzy. She was being treated at Kailash Deepak Hospital in Delhi," he claimed.
Kwatra also alleged that during the fight Bindra broke his sister's mobile phone. He urged the police to take strict action in the case.
A senior police officer said on the basis of the complaint, an FIR has been lodged in the case under Indian Penal Code sections 323 (causing hurt), 504 (insult to provoke breach of peace), 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), and 427 (mischief).
"We have launched an investigation into the case to ascertain the facts. Necessary action would be taken accordingly," Assistant Commissioner of Police (Noida) Rajneesh Verma told PTI.&nbsp;

Three persons, including the son of a senior Maharashtra bureaucrat, were arrested late Sunday night for allegedly injuring a woman social media influencer in Thane earlier this week, a police official said.
Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Mahesh Patil identified the three as Ashwajit Gaikwad, Romil Patel and Sagar Shedge.
"The three were held at 8:50pm. A Mahindra Scorpio and a Landrover that were allegedly used in the incident have been seized. Kasarwadavali police is probing further," Patil said on his message to the media.
The 26-year-old woman, Priya Singh, was seriously injured when she was allegedly hit by the accused's car on December 11 evening near a hotel on Ghodbunder road.
As per her complaint to the police, she had gone to meet Gaikwad at the hotel but the two ended up having an argument.
She claimed when she tried to take her belongings from the accused's car, the driver tried to mow her down, leaving her with serious injuries.
On her complaint, Gaikwad, Patel and Shedge were charged under Indian Penal Code sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 279 (rash driving), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and others by Kasarwadavali police, an official said.
On Sunday, Singh took to social media from her hospital bed and said Thane police had not yet slapped section 307 (attempt to murder) against the three.

A 23-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly throwing her newborn girl into a dustbin in a civic run hospital in Mumbai, leading to her death, a police official said on Monday.
The infant was found in the dustbin bucket in a toilet of civic-run Sion Hospital by a sweeper on Friday morning and she was declared dead by doctors, he said.
"The woman took this step to hide ignominy of unwed motherhood. CCTV footage of the vicinity showed her walking suspiciously near the toilet. She was nabbed from Dharavi, where she stays, and confessed to the crime during questioning," the official said.
She has been charged under Indian Penal Code sections 315 (act done with intent to prevent child being born alive or to cause it to die after birth) and 317 (exposure of a child under 12 years of age by parent or person having care of it with intention of wholly abandoning it), he said.
