There is a possibility of a rise in dengue and malaria cases in the national capital this year due to flooding in several areas, Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi on Monday said.
Directions have been issued to departments concerned to take steps to check mosquito breeding and clear silt and sludge left by the Yamuna waters, she said.
Authorities started cleaning roads and removing silt from the flooded areas, even though the water level in Yamuna started rising again on Monday. It rose to 205.94 at 7 pm from 205.58 at 8 am.
"Now, it is a matter of concern that due to the flood, there is a possibility of more cases of dengue and malaria in comparison to last year... Instructions have been issued to all departments concerned to clean garbage and silt, and launch a drive to control mosquito breeding," she told reporters.
She said flood waters have started receding in several areas.
Earlier in the day, Health Minister Saurab Bharadwaj said that all Delhi government departments have been instructed to constantly monitor the situation in the aftermath of flooding in the national capital.
Interacting with reporters during his visit to a Delhi government hospital, he also said that cases of conjunctivitis and skin allergy are mostly being reported from relief camps set up.
The minister said east Delhi and northeast Delhi have largely been impacted due to the floods.

With Yamuna levels rising to a record high flooding areas near the inundated river floodplains, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority directed that all non-essential government offices, schools and colleges in the city be closed till Sunday. Private establishments across the city have been advised to work from home. The decision was made at the DDMA meeting held at the LG Secretariat here. The meeting, chaired by Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, was also attended by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. "All schools, colleges and universities are being closed till Sunday," Kejriwal told reporters after the meeting. "All government offices associated with non-essential services will be closed till Sunday. Private offices will be issued an advisory to follow the work from home practice," he said.
Officials said commercial establishments around Kashmere Gate will be asked to close till Sunday. Buses coming to ISBT will stop at Singhu Border, and DTC buses will ferry people from there, they said.
The chief minister also warned of chances of an acute water shortage in the city.
"There is going to be an acute shortage of water since three treatment plants are closed. There could be a shortage of 25 per cent water so ration will have to be done," he said.

The Yamuna flowed at 208.53 metres at 10 am on Thursday, breaking the 45-year-old record, officials said. Kejriwal, who wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday for releasing of water into the Yamuna with a limited speed, said the river's water level is likely to rise further till Thursday evening after which it may recede.

 Metro trains crossing Yamuna bridges with restricted speed 

DMRC officials on Wednesday told PTI that they were "closely monitoring" the metro bridges over the Yamuna amid the rising water level of the river.

Delhi Metro trains are crossing the four Yamuna bridges with a restricted speed of 30 kmph as a precautionary measure due to the rising water level of the Yamuna, the DMRC said on Thursday. The swollen river has crossed the danger mark, breaching the all-time record of 1978, flooding low-lying areas near the banks.
At 10 am on Thursday, the water level in Yamuna was at 208.53 metres.
Although the Yamuna water level remained stable for three hours on Thursday, it started rising again to reach 208.66 by 7 pm, three metres above the danger mark of 205.33 metres.
"Due to rising water levels of the Yamuna, trains are passing through all the four Metro bridges on the river with a restricted speed of 30 kmph as a precautionary measure. Normal services on all corridors," the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) tweeted earlier in the day.
The four bridges are, viz, at Yamuna Bank (698.8 m on Blue Line), Nizamuddin (602.8 m on Pink Line), Kalindi Kunj (574 m on Magenta Line), and Shastri Park (553 m on Red Line).
Meanwhile, entry and exit of passengers at the Yamuna Bank Metro Station on the Blue Line has been temporarily closed due to the rising water levels of the Yamuna River, officials said on Thursday. The Delhi Metro authorities also said that the approach road leading to the Yamuna Bank station is currently inaccessible.
"Due to the escalating water levels of the Yamuna River, the approach road leading to Yamuna Bank Metro Station is currently inaccessible. Kindly plan your journey accordingly and consider alternate routes. However, interchange facilities are available," the DMRC tweeted.

With many localities of Delhi flooded, the water also reached the Supreme Court premises.

Even as river Yamuna's water level began to recede on July 14, some areas in Delhi remained submerged. The floodwaters even reached the Supreme Court, which is situated in the Tilak Marg area in the central part of the capital city. Areas in ITO and Rajghat also remained inundated.
A regulator of the Delhi Irrigation and Flood Control department suffered damage near Indraprastha on July 13, which caused the water of overflowing Yamuna to flow back towards the city. Delhi Urban Development Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said that the Government has prioritised fixing the damage.
"No vehicular traffic will be allowed on Mahatma Gandhi Marg from Sarai Kale Khan towards IP Flyover due to overflow of drain water near WHO Building. Commuters are advised to avoid the stretch," the Delhi Traffic Police tweeted. The commuters battled difficulties while going through ITO roads and Bhairon road.

&nbsp;As the Yamuna water level rises, the Delhi Secretariat housing offices of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his cabinet and other senior bureaucrats, was flooded on Thursday.
According to officials from the Public Works Department, they received information regarding flooding of the Delhi Secretariat. They said they are coordinating with the traffic police and other agencies on the situation.
The road from Rajghat to Delhi Secretariat was also flooded.
Officials said the Ring Road stretch between Kashmere Gate and Purana Lohe Ka Pul has been flooded and closed for traffic movement. &nbsp;An order by the District Magistrate (East) said Shamshan Ghat in Geeta Colony has been closed due to the extreme rise in water levels.
The Yamuna surged to a record 208.48 metres at 8 am, the Central Water Commission said on Thursday, adding that it is likely to rise to 208.75 metres by 4 pm.
Meanwhile, water from the overflowing Yamuna river reached ITO, a key route to commute from east Delhi to central Delhi and Connaught Place. Apart from this, areas like Boat Colony, Geeta Colony, some parts of Gandhi Nagar, Ashok Nagar and Pandav Nagar were also inundated.
Announcements for evacuating people are being made at various locations in the city.
