In recognition of her commitment to ending the use of animals for circuses, her fervent campaign against the exploitation of wild animals for their skins, and her unwavering support for adopting homeless animals, among other efforts to protect living, feeling beings, PETA India proudly designates the illustrious Bollywood luminary Dia Mirza as its 2023 Person of the Year.

'I was uncomfortable when Maddy’s character was stalking me. Although Reena (Dia’s character) acknowledges it. She has that moment when she tells him off,' said Dia.

Actor Dia Mirza, in a recent interview, opened up on the decades-long debate on whether R Madhavan's character Maddy's stalking was justified in the cult romantic film 'Rehna Hai Terre Dil Mein'.
Speaking with Bollywood Hungama, Dia admitted that she was uncomfortable with the stalking and still is over 20 years down the line.
Dia said, 'I was uncomfortable when Maddy&rsquo;s character was stalking me. Although Reena (Dia&rsquo;s character) acknowledges it. She has that moment when she tells him off. What works is that people get past that notion, that it&rsquo;s okay. In fact Maddy&rsquo;s character at the end has very strong values. He is respectful, he is kind and he is well-intentioned, most importantly.'
For those who haven't watched the film, Madhavan&rsquo;s character Maddy constantly stalks Dia&rsquo;s character Reena Malhotra. Maddy impersonates Reena&rsquo;s-to-be fianc&eacute; Rajeev and manipulates her into falling in love with him.
In the end, Reena chooses Maddy over Rajeev.
When asked if Reena made the right choice, Dia said, 'What should I say now. I used to think that Saif is such a good guy, why would she leave him and go. However, that was shown in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. So it&rsquo;s very interesting that one film shows a particular point of view, while another film shows another point of view. If there&rsquo;s ever a sequel made, then it&rsquo;ll be very interesting to see where these people are today.'
'Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein', directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, was released in 2001.

Dia Mirza is currently busy promoting her film &lsquo;Dhak Dhak&rsquo;, co-starring Fatima Sana Sheikh, Ratna Pathak Shah, and Sanjana Sanghi. Dia Mirza has said that if she was offered 'Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein' today she would question certain aspects of it.&nbsp;
In an interview with Outlook, when Dia was asked whether such a film could attract audience if it was made today, the actor replied, &lsquo;I can&rsquo;t speak about whether that film can be made or not, because all kinds of films are going around. But if I was offered that film, I would question certain aspects of the film and hope that the writers would change it. I internalised some aspects of that film and realised that had to do with the right propagation of love. I am strongly against stalking. I think it is a terrible thing to do.&rsquo;&nbsp;
Dia also talked about the glorification of stalking in her debut movie. She said, &lsquo;Not only does Maddy&rsquo;s character stalk Reena, but he also lies to her. Of course, she breaks off the relationship with him once she discovers the truth, only to then realise that he is remorseful and genuinely loves and cares for her. But there is no justification in this world for stalking, lying is bad, and stalking is worse.&rsquo;&nbsp;
She added, &lsquo;I guess as a society, we don&rsquo;t perceive stalking as a bad thing. I feel our films are responsible for spreading that sense of falsehood as the right thing.&rsquo;&nbsp;
For the unversed, in the film, Madhavan (Maddy) falls in love with Dia (Reena) and pretends to be her fianc&eacute;. He lies to her and tries to win her over.&nbsp;

Dia Mirza has recalled the tough time she had to go through when her son Avyaan Azaad was born. The actor recalled her delivery time, which was in May 2021, that her son was born pre-mature and the situation was really life-threatening for both the mother and the child. In a recent interview, she shared that during the fifth month of her pregnancy, she had to undergo appendix surgery. The actor feels that the surgery caused some infection in her body which led to further complications.  
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, the actor talked about the problems involved in her pregnancy. She said, “My placenta was hemorrhaging and the doctor said I have to pull your baby out otherwise I would have gone into sepsis. It was life-threatening for both of us and within 36 hours of birth, the baby had to go through surgery,” she said. 
The 'Thappad' actor also shared that after the delivery her son had to go through surgery and that she couldn’t meet him for three and a half months after that. The actor further told that he had to be in NICU during that time.  
The actor told that all this happened during the second wave of pandemic so she had to follow so many precautions. She shared that the baby was quite ‘tiny and fragile’ and she was allowed to see her baby only twice a week.  
The much-loved actor is currently working on her upcoming project 'Dhak Dhak'. The film also stars Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ratna Pathak Shah, and Sanjana Sanghi in pivotal roles.
