At least 155 people were injured, while damage from the rains forced more than 88,000 people from their homes. Approximately 16,000 took refuge in schools, gymnasiums and other temporary shelters.
The floods left a wake of devastation, including landslides, washed-out roads and collapsed bridges across the state. Operators reported electricity and communications cuts. More than 800,000 people are without a water supply, according to the civil defence agency, which cited figures from water company Corsan.
A rescue team pulled an elderly man in serious medical condition into a helicopter from a remote area in the Bento Gon&ccedil;alves municipality, according to footage from military firefighters. Torrents of brown water poured over a nearby dam.
On Saturday evening, residents in the town of Canoas stood up to their shoulders in muddy water and formed a human chain to pull boats carrying people to safety, according to video footage shared by local UOL news network.
The Guaiba river reached a record level of 5.33 metres (17.5 feet) on Sunday morning at 8 am local time, surpassing levels seen during a historic 1941 deluge, when the river reached 4.76 metres.

Brazil needs to adjust to the effects of climate change, she said in a Friday statement, referring to a process known as adaptation.

Besides Bihar and Himachal Pradesh, 165 people died due to rains, floods, landslides and lightning in Gujarat, 138 in Madhya Pradesh, 107 each in Karnataka and Maharashtra, 90 in Chhattisgarh and 75 in Uttarakhand.

A total of 160 teams of the National Disaster Response Force have been deployed in various states. Of them, 17 teams were deployed in Himachal Pradesh, 14 in Maharashtra, 12 each in Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, 10 each in Assam and West Bengal and 9 in Uttarakhand, according to the data.

Floods wash away bridge, contact lost with several border villages in Uttarakhand

A vital bridge connecting remote border villages with the rest of Uttarakhand was washed away amid rains and floods.&nbsp;

Floods in Jummagad river in the border area of Chamoli district of Uttarakhand has washed away the bridge built on it, blocking the Indo-Tibet border road there while contact with over a dozen border villages has also been lost.
Flooding in the Jummagad river flowing near Jumma village on the Joshimath-Niti highway, about 45 km from Joshimath, continued till late night on Monday evening, in which the bridge collapsed.
The Joshimath-Malari border road is now blocked and traffic connectivity to over a dozen border villages in the area has also stopped. Supply to border outposts by road has also come to a standstill.
The flood water was so high that it kept flowing over the Joshimath-Malari road, which stood several metres above the river.

&ldquo;My team's current focus and our big worry is that some Aucklanders might think the worse is behind us, but it isn't,&rdquo; Brown told reporters.
Brown said up to 12 centimetres (almost 5 inches) of rain was forecast in some areas that were already waterlogged.
&ldquo;That's nothing like Friday night, but the ground is so saturated and the drains are so full that if anything, it could be more dangerous than even Friday,&rdquo; Brown said.

&ldquo;It has taken some time for everyone to appreciate just how big and widespread an event this has been and it hasn't finished yet,&rdquo; Brown said.
&ldquo;The downfall was by far the biggest in our history. It was well beyond even what our emergency people either imagined or planned for,&rdquo; Brown added.
The heavy rain warning covered Auckland and further north on the North Island.
&ldquo;This rain is expected to cause dangerous river conditions and significant flooding. Slips and floodwaters are likely to disrupt travel, making some roads impassable and possibly isolating communities,&rdquo; a MetService statement said.
Auckland schools will remain closed until next week.
Auckland Airport has resumed operations that were shut down by the storm on Friday, but the airport warned in a statement that flight schedules might be disrupted for several days.

In flood-stricken Pakistan, where an unprecedented monsoon season has killed hundreds of people and led to large-scale destruction, the rains now threaten a famed archaeological site dating back 4,500 years.
The ruins of Mohenjo Daro - located in southern Sindh province near the Indus River and a UNESCO World Heritage Site - are considered among the best preserved urban settlements in South Asia. They were discovered in 1922 and to this day, mystery surrounds the disappearance of its civilization, which coincided with those of ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia.&nbsp;
The swelling waters of the Indus, a major river in this part of the world, have wreaked havoc. At least 1,343 people have been killed and millions have lost their homes in the surging waters, with many experts blaming the unusually heavy monsoon rains on climate change.&nbsp;
The flooding has not directly hit Mohenjo Daro but the record-breaking rains have inflicted damage on the ruins of the ancient city, said Ahsan Abbasi, the site's curator.&nbsp;
Several big walls, which were built nearly 5,000 years ago, have collapsed because of the monsoon rains," Abbasi told The Associated Press.&nbsp;
He said dozens of construction workers under the supervision of archaeologists have started the repair work. Abbasi did not give an estimated cost of the damages at Mohenjo Daro.&nbsp;
The site's landmark Buddhist stupa" - a large hemispherical structure associated with worship, meditation and burial - remains intact, Abbasi said. But the downpour has damaged some outer walls and also some larger walls separating individual rooms or chambers.&nbsp;
Abbasi said the civilization at Mohenjo Daro, also known as Mound of the Dead" in the local Sindhi language, built an elaborate drainage system, which has been critical in flooding in the past.&nbsp;
Though the floods have touched all of Pakistan, the Sindh province has been among the worst hit.&nbsp;

The situation in rain battered Bengaluru continues to largely remain the same on Tuesday with flooded roads, vehicles partially inundated, traffic snarls and commuters wading through knee-deep water to reach their destination. 
So much so, that tractors and boats are being used to ferry employees through waterlogged roads. A 23-year-old woman lost her life allegedly due to electrocution after she came into contact with an electric pole while navigating a road flooded with rain water at Siddapura here, news agency PTI reported on Tuesday.
Power and water supply in several flood-hit areas in Bengaluru was reported making it tough for the residents.  
In the wake of flooding in Bengaluru, several private schools have declared holidays while others have switched to online teaching until the situation gets better. Companies too, have suggested employees to work from home. 
According to reports, the centre of India’s IT industry has  received the highest rainfall in the last 42 years. 
Adding to the woes, an alert for heavy rains in north and south interior Karnataka over the next four days has been issued by the Indian Meteorological Department.

A relief drive has been iniatied for Coke Studio fame-singer Abdul Wahab Bhugti who is reportedly struggling to make ends meet in the aftermath of floods in Balochistan.
Taking to Twitter, a user shared the singer's ordeal, circulated pictures of his flood-affected hometown. Bugati can be seen with a chilld with a flooded piece of land in the background.
A Balochistan based relief fund has also extended a helping hand. It has circulated singer's bank and phone details wide asking people to help him  with financial aid. 
Since the time the news broke out, the internet has been trending with help calls for Bhugti. With over 3000 retweete, the singer is expected to receive funds to revive his family. 
Another influencer Muniba Mazar, who is also UN Goodwill Amabassador shared Bugti's personal bank account details urging the people around to help him as much as possible.
Several other collaborators including Xulfi, a producer of Coke Studio, also came forward to help the pained singer."We are and will continue to be with Wahab Bugti Sahib and his loved ones to help overcome the difficult situation. Rest assured, he is being given all possible support on ground," he tweeted
The distored pictured left netizens sad and worried.  One of them said such help should have been extended long ago given his already grim cirumstances. Another commented that the pictures were heartbreaking
A user wrote, " so unexpected how a brilliant talent is being served ."
Bugti featured in Coke Studio season 14 alongside Pakistani rapper Eva B and singer Kaifi Khalil for 'Kana Yaari'. The song received 35,232,530 views.

A relief drive has been initiated for Pakistani 'Coke Studio' singer Wahab Bugti who is reportedly struggling to make ends meet amid severe floods in Balochistan.
Taking to Twitter, a user shared the singer's ordeal, circulating pictures of his flooded hometown. Bugti can be seen carrying a child with a flooded piece of land in the background.
Appeals to help Bugti have been trending on social media since the news broke. A Balochistan-based relief fund has extended a helping hand to the 'Kana Yaari' singer. It has circulated Bugti's bank and phone details, urging people to contribute. A Pakistani influencer, Muniba Mazar, who is also a UN Goodwill Ambassador, also shared Bugti's bank account details for help.
Several other collaborators including Xulfi, a producer of Coke Studio, came forward to help the singer. "We are and will continue to be with Wahab Bugti Sahib and his loved ones to help overcome the difficult situation. Rest assured, he is being given all possible support on ground," he tweeted.

The swollen Yamuna continued to flow above the danger mark of 205.33 metres in Delhi on Saturday morning and efforts to evacuate people from vulnerable areas are being intensified, officials said.

The swollen Yamuna continued to flow above the danger mark of 205.33 metres in Delhi on Saturday morning and efforts to evacuate people from vulnerable areas are being intensified, officials said.
The flood control room said the water level reached 205.99 metres at 5 a.m.. The river had breached the danger mark of 205.33 metres around 4 p.m. on Friday following heavy rain in upper catchment areas, prompting authorities to evacuate people from low-lying areas.
A forecast said the water level is likely to touch the 206-metre mark around 5 p.m. and remain stable thereafter.
East Delhi District Magistrate Anil Banka said around 2,300 people had been evacuated from low-lying areas in his district and shifted to safer places till Friday night. Evacuation efforts will be intensified on Saturday, he said.
&nbsp; A flood alert is declared in Delhi when the discharge rate from the Hathnikund Barrage in Haryana's Yamuna Nagar crosses the 1 lakh-cusecs mark. People living near the floodplains and in flood-prone areas are evacuated then, an official said.
Officials asked to keep vigil
The flood control department on Thursday advised all sector officers to keep a vigil in their respective areas and take necessary action at vulnerable points by deploying the requisite number of quick-reaction teams to warn people residing within river embankments.
Thirty-four boats and mobile pumps have been deployed in low-lying areas.
"Around 37,000 people who live in Yamuna floodplains and low-lying areas in Delhi are considered vulnerable to flooding. A flood control plan has been with all departments concerned," Banka said.
People evacuated from low-lying areas in the floodplains are being shifted to temporary structures like tents and permanent buildings like schools in safer areas.
Water being discharged from Haryana&rsquo;s Hathnikund Barrage 
The Delhi flood control room reported a discharge rate of around 17,000 cusecs from the Hathnikund Barrage at 6 a.m. It was 1.49 lakh cusecs at 1 a.m. on Saturday and 2.21 lakh cusec at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
One cusec is equivalent to 28.32 litres per second.
Normally, the flow rate at the Hathnikund barrage is 352 cusecs, but the discharge increases after heavy rainfall in the catchment areas. The water discharged from the barrage normally takes two to three days to reach the national capital.
According to the India Meteorological Department, "widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rain" is likely in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Haryana on August 14 and 15.
Last year, the Yamuna river breached the danger mark on July 30 and the water level at the Old Railway Bridge had risen to 205.59 metres.
In 2019, the flow rate had peaked at 8.28 lakh cusec on August 18-19, and the water level of the Yamuna had hit the 206.60-metre mark.
In 1978, the river had swelled to the all-time record water level of 207.49 metres. In 2013, it had risen to 207.32 metres.

So far, 5,840 people have been safely evacuated, ASDMA officials stated.
Lakhs of animals and a total crop area of 20,142 hectares have been affected by the rain that began earlier in the week and subsequent flood.
An alert was sounded in Karbi Anglong, Morigaon and Nagaon districts as four sluice gates of NEEPCO's hydroelectric project were opened in Dima Hasao.
Guwahati has been severely affected due to continued waterlogging in most parts of the city, with areas such as Anil Nagar, Nabin Nagar, Zoo Road, Six Mile, Noonmati and Bhootnath figuring among the worst affected.
In neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh, water from river Subansiri has submerged the under-construction dam site of a hydroelectric power project.
Workers employed at the dam have been asked to move to safety by authorities of National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC), which is developing the project, official sources maintained.
Torrential rain in the frontier state has inundated numerous villages of the two districts of Dhemaji and Lakhimpur, a government official said.
A portion of NH-6, which passes through Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura, has caved in due to landslides, bringing traffic to a halt.
Meanwhile, the Northeast Frontier Railways has cancelled short-terminated and diverted several trains due to water-logging of railway tracks between Nalbari and Ghograpar of Rangiya division in Lower Assam.
Among the prominent trains that were cancelled on Thursday are New Bongaigaon-Guwahati passenger train and the Alipurduar-Guwahati Siffung Express train, said the spokesperson of NF Railways.
Trains that had to diverted via an alternative route include New Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express, Kamakhya-Delhi Brahmaputra Mail, Kamakhya-Lokmanya Tilak AC Express and Sealdah-Agartala Kanchenjunga Express , he added.
