Flight operations were halted briefly and six incoming flights were diverted as airport authorities were on their toes to mitigate the situation.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A portion of the Guwahati airport's false ceiling collapsed amidst severe storms and rainfall in Assam on March 31.
The incident prompted the authorities of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport to briefly halt operations and divert six flights to other destinations.
A purported video of the ceiling falling and rainwater gushing has gone viral on social media platforms. So far, no injuries have been reported.&nbsp;
The storm uprooted a big tree at the Oil India complex outside the Adani Group-controlled facility and blocked a road, Chief Airport Officer (CAO) Utpal Baruah told PTI.
"We immediately rushed there and cleared the road for smooth supply of fuel to the terminal. It took us over half-an-hour," he said.
When the rain and storm lashed the area, a portion of the roof was blown away in the forecourt area, Baruah said.
"It was very old and could not withstand the impact. Due to this, the ceiling broke open and water started flowing inside. However, there was no injury and everything is under control," he said.
Baruah also said that water entered the terminal from the ceiling.
"I am personally monitoring the situation so that passengers do not face any inconvenience. Due to the storm and heavy rain, the visibility dropped drastically and we had to divert six flights," the CAO said.
The flights operated by IndiGo, Air India and Air India Express have been diverted to Agartala and Calcutta, he said.
"The visibility has improved and normal operations have resumed. Flights have started landing in Guwahati," Baruah added.

A viral video of the incident showed the jumbo helping itself to treats available at the shop. When the owner of the shop tried to scare it away by lighting a paper on fire, the animal withdrew but not before taking some goodies with it for the journey home.&nbsp;
The elephant is reported to have made it safely back to the sanctuary.&nbsp;

In a startling incident, a passenger allegedly shot and killed himself onboard a Guwahati-to-Delhi train on 10 April 2023.
The man allegedly shot himself in the general compartment at around 8 pm when the train was near the New Jalpaiguri station in Bengal, officials said.
He was not carrying a ticket or any other documents, so efforts are underway to identify him. It is also being probed how he entered the train with a gun.

The idea to open the 'Trans tea stall' was generated and implemented by the North East Frontier Railway (NEFR) to empower the community, its spokesperson Sabyasachi De said.

In a landmark initiative, the Indian Railways has set up a tea stall at Guwahati station which will be fully operated and managed by members of the transgender community.

The NEFR collaborated with All Assam Transgender Association for the initiative, he said.
The 'Trans Tea Stall' on platform number one of Guwahati station was inaugurated by NF Railway General Manager Anshul Gupta on Friday.
Talking to reporters, Gupta said that this was a "first-of-its kind initiative by any government organisation in the country".
NF Railway plans to open more such tea stalls at other railway stations in the region, he said.
Associate vice chairman of the Assam Transgender Welfare Board Swati Bidhan Baruah said that she was hopeful that more trans people will be rehabilitated in the days to come, under various government schemes.
The Centre had last year approved a comprehensive scheme &lsquo;Support for Marginalised Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise&rsquo; which includes a sub-scheme for rehabilitation and welfare of transgender people.

As Dolly Kikon’s string of tweets on the incident sparked outrage, Union civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia responded to her, promising to look into the incident.
The CISF later tweeted that the security and dignity of passengers had to go hand in hand. The force, which is entrusted with the security of major airports, also announced that the official concerned has been suspended.
