The local units of Vishva Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal in Sirmaur district&rsquo;s Nahan town also issued an &ldquo;ultimatum&rdquo; to seven Muslim traders who hail from Saharanpur to vacate their shops within 24 hours.
The video at the centre of the controversy was purportedly shot in Saharanpur.
An X user on Wednesday posted a video showing several people ransacking a shop in Nahan, throwing stuff out, mostly books and clothes, while police tried to contain them.
Police told PTI that they had collected the thrown out stuff in bags and put them back inside the shop.
Some local Hindu outfits took out a protest march in the town raising slogans against the alleged killing of the cow, demanding strict action against them.
They also enforced a shutdown of all commercial activities in the town.
The marchers, more than 2,000 residents, passed through the main town and went up to the office of Sirmaur Deputy Commissioner to submit a memorandum of their demands.
On Tuesday evening, hundreds of youths belonging to Hindu outfits came out on roads in protest after the video of the purported cow sacrifice became viral.
Himachal Pradesh BJP chief Rajiv Bindal demanded the police file an FIR against the person who uploaded the video online.
Senior Police Superintendent Raman Kumar Meena said he has received the complaint from some Hindu rights bodies and an enquiry has been ordered in the matter.
Meena appealed to the people to maintain peace and have full faith in the investigating agency.

However, rapid urbanization, industrialization, and population growth have led to increased groundwater use and a decline in its quality. Northern India has faced severe water quality issues. Similar issues are evident in the Himachal Pradesh&rsquo;s BB industrial area, where industrialization has contaminated groundwater with toxic metals, exceeding permissible limits. The reliance on untreated groundwater has caused numerous health problems, including significant reports of cancer and renal disease between 2013 and 2018."
The study was published in the journal Science of the Total Environment. It noted that the region's groundwater contains calcium carbonate with uniform uranium levels. Most of the metal contaminants were traced to industrial sources. The researchers pinpointed the primary metals of concern and created geospatial maps that display metal contamination and associated health risks across village boundaries.
The human health risk assessment indicated significant non-carcinogenic risks for both adults and children, primarily due to natural uranium, with additional risks from industrial sources of zinc, lead, cobalt, and barium. Prem Lal arrived early at the sub-divisional magistrate's office on Thursday, the icy cold and crisp morning air hinting at the challenges ahead.
As one of the 29 booth-level officers deployed from Kaza to polling stations in Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, Lal knew that the next few days would be demanding.
Wearing sunglasses to shield his eyes from the glaring sun, the trained graduate teacher joined others in a semi-circle. The SDM, carrying a bunch of papers clipped together, called out the names of the poll-booth officers and their assignments.
It is Tashigang for Lal and his team of five others. Tashigang is a tiny village perched high in the icy Himalayas at a staggering altitude of 15,256 feet. This village holds the distinction of hosting the highest polling station in the world.
Located near the India-China border, the Spiti valley is part of the Mandi Lok Sabha seat, one of the four parliamentary constituencies in Himachal Pradesh and the second largest in India. Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is up against the Congress's Vikramaditya Singh from the seat.
The polling station at Tashigang, serving 62 voters from Tashigang and Gete, has been made a model polling booth.
The hour-and-a-half-long journey to Tashigang, located on the other side of a mountain facing the SDM's office in Kaza, is as formidable as the landscape itself -- rugged terrain, narrow winding dirt roads and unpredictable weather.
Yet, for Lal and his team, the assignment carries a sense of purpose. In a place where the harsh environment shapes every aspect of life, facilitating the democratic process is both a "duty and an honour".
"I have been part of a team that conducted elections at Hikkim (also in the Spiti valley), the second-highest polling station in the country, in the past. So I have some experience," Lal said, laughing as he walked to board a white Bolero car with an electronic voting machine (EVM) in his hands.
After a brief pause, he added, "Thoda dikkat to hoga (there will be some difficulties)," acknowledging the challenges ahead, especially for those unaccustomed to such a difficult terrain with no mobile connectivity and limited power supply.
But preparations are meticulous.
"The team will get a satellite phone and runners will be deployed to relay polling data to the headquarters," Additional District Commissioner Rahul Jain told PTI. "The terrain is tough, but our teams are committed and we have made all the preparations," he added.
As the journey commenced, the paved road quickly gave way to a narrow and uneven dirt path. The brown hills on either side were dotted with white pools of snow, slowly melting in the sun. In some places, water from the melting snow accumulated on the dirt road, making it dangerous to drive through.
The landscape was breathtaking but completely desolate. A few houses were visible only because of their bright colours against the brown hills. There is nothing for miles in between, and with no or very limited mobile connectivity, tourists frequently lose their way.
The yellow-coloured polling station with the tricolour painted on its front is perched high on a hill, bleakly empty.
There is barely any vegetation, barring wild grasses.
"Highest polling station of India, Tashigang - 72. Altitude - 4,650 metres," read a message painted in blue and white on the front wall.

Women constitute almost 49 per cent of the total voters in the state.
Rajkumari Amrit Kaur, Chandresh Kumari and Pratibha Singh, the three successful candidates till now belonged to royal families.
Only the BJP and the BSP have nominated women candidates for the June 1 elections for the four Lok Sabha seats in the state.
While the BJP has fielded actor Kangana Ranaut from Mandi, Rekha Rani is contesting on a BSP ticket from Kangra.
"Women from humble background rising high in politics and carving a niche for themselves is still a big challenge in the country and Himachal Pradesh is no exception. At present, women constitute about 49 per cent of the total voters in the state but representation is not even one fourth and this is a cause of serious concern," said Ramesh Chauhan, head of the department of political science at Himachal Pradesh University.
In politics, what matters is who has the decision-making power. This power is normally with men and until women are given prominent positions, they would not emerge as "empowered" and surpass their dominant male counterparts, Chauhan told PTI.
According to Kamal Manohar Sharma, who also teaches political science at Himachal Pradesh University, the status of women has been high in the state and even before reservation for women was introduced, women pradhans were elected in Mandi, Kinnaur and Kangra districts.
But women were not so keen to climb the ladder to the assembly, he claimed.
Moreover, the political parties also did not promote or encourage the women with humble background, he added.
Political parties go all out to woo the women voters but when it comes to declaring candidates, women get few opportunities, the political experts felt.
To add to it, participation of women voters surpass male voters especially in rural areas but still few women get elected, they added.
A total of 56,38,422 voters - 28,79,200 male, 27,59,187 female and 35 third gender persons - are eligible to exercise their franchise for the seats of Hamirpur, Kangra, Mandi, and Shimla (SC) in the seventh and last phase of polling on June 1. Amrit Kaur, India's first health minister who hailed from the royal family of Kapurthala, was elected to Lok Sabha from Mandi constituency in 1952. Thereafter, no woman got a ticket till 1984.
However, in 1984, Chandresh Kumari from the royal family of Jodhpur who was married in Himachal Pradesh, was fielded by the Congress from Kangra and won as the party swept the election, riding on the sympathy wave following the assassination of the then prime minister Indira Gandhi.
Pratibha Singh, wife of former chief minister Virbhadra Singh unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha polls in 1998. However, she won the elections in 2004 when her husband was the chief minister.
In 2009, Virbhadra Singh was elected to Lok Sabha from Mandi but he quit after becoming chief minister in 2012 and his wife Pratibha Singh won the by-election in 2013.
She again contested the Lok Sabha polls in 2014 but lost to Ram Swaroop of BJP, who was re-elected in 2019. But the seat fell vacant when Ram Swaroop died in March 2021 and Pratibha Singh won for the third time in the by-election held in November 2021 after the death of Virbhadra Singh.
In 2014, the AAP fielded Kargil war hero Capt Vikram Batra's mother Kamal Kanta Batra from Hamirpur but she polled only 15,329 votes and lost.
Even in the 68-member state assembly, the representation of women has been abysmally low and no woman was elected till 1967. Only one woman entered the assembly in 1977 and 2022. However, the highest number of seven women was elected to the state assembly in the 1998 elections.
So far, eight women have been elected to Rajya Sabha from the state.&nbsp;

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday announced that the state government will give Rs 1,500 per month to women in the age group of 18 to 60 years from the next financial year.
This was one of the 10 'guarantees' promised by the Congress ahead of the assembly polls.
Addressing the media here, he said that Rs 800 crore would be spent on the initiative -- Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojna -- annually and over five lakh women would be covered under it.
He said that with this, five out of 10 poll promises have been fulfilled and reiterated that the old pension scheme was restored benefitting 1.36 lakh employees of the state.&nbsp;

Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania on Thursday disqualified six Congress MLAs who defied the party whip to vote in favour of the government on the Finance Bill in the House.
The disqualified MLAs are Rajinder Rana, Sudhir Sharma, Inder Dutt Lakhanpal, Devinder Kumar Bhutoo, Ravi Thakur and Chetanya Sharma.
Addressing reporters here, Pathania, who had reserved his verdict on the disqualification of the MLAs on Wednesday, said the legislators attracted the anti-defection law by defying the Congress whip as they were elected on the party's tickets.
"These six MLAs are disqualified and cease to be members of Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly with immediate effect," the Speaker said.
These MLAs had cross-voted in favour of BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan in the Rajya Sabha elections on Tuesday. Later, they abstained from voting on the budget in the assembly.
The House passed the Finance Bill by voice vote after Pathania suspended 15 BJP MLAs. The Speaker then adjourned the session sine die.&nbsp;

The Congress averted a crisis in Himachal Pradesh after Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania expelled 15 legislators from the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), helping the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government maintain majority in the Assembly.
The MLAs, including the Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, were expelled immediately after the budget session began for allegedly shouting slogans and misconduct in the Speaker's Chamber. The remaining 10 BJP MLAs walked out in protest.
The state Budget was then passed through voice vote and the House adjourned sine die.
The ruling Congress' majority on the floor was under threat after it lost the sole Rajya Sabha seat from the state to BJP, owing to cross-voting by its members.&nbsp;
The six rebel MLAs, who have yet to officially join the BJP, were issued show-cause notice for defying the whip. They appeared before the Speaker on Wednesday and asserted that the anti-defection law does not apply to voting in Rajya Sabha polls. They've sought a week's time to file a reply.
Congress, meanwhile, has rushed Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to Shimla to salvage the situation. A key strategist for the party, Shivakumar will seek to placate the rebels who are said to be "disappointed" with the working style of Chief Minister Sukhu.
Accusing the BJP of horse-trading, the veteran leader expressed confidence that the Congress legislators would remain loyal to the party.
In another relief for the Congress, Vikramaditya Singh, who had resigned as a minister in the Himachal Pradesh cabinet, has decided not to 'press for it' till discussions with party leaders are over.
"We have talked to the observers. We have informed them about the present situation. I will not press my resignation until a decision is taken," the son of 6-time Chief Minister late Virbhadra Singh said.
Chief Minister Sukhu rejected Singh's resignation and is trying to placate him. "Vikramaditya Singh is my younger brother and I have spoken to him," said Sukhu.
The CM also hinted that his party would forgive the rebel MLAs. "We are forgiving people. We do not work vindictively," he said.
Congress has bought some time to get its house in order in Himachal Pradesh. However, it remains to be seen if the government will survive a full 5-year term in the hill state, and whether Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu will remain at its helm.

'There is a difference between taking back the resignation and not pressing the resignation till the time the dialogue and the action of the observers is not complete. We have talked to the observers. We have informed them about the present situation. I will not press my resignation until a decision is taken. The final decision will be taken in the coming time,' Vikramaditya said.&nbsp;
His resignation on Wednesday morning has been rejected by Himachal Pradesh chief minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu.&nbsp;
Vikramaditya Singh, as he announced his resignation, said he was "deeply hurt" with the transpiring going on over the past two days and said there is a need to ponder what went wrong for the Congress.
He said he has apprised Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and party leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi of the developments. The ball is now in the party high command's court, he added.
"The Congress party had made promises to the people and we owe the responsibility to fulfil those promises. I would decide my future course of action after consulting my supporters," Vikramaditya Singh said.
He said the 2022 assembly elections in the state was fought in the name of former chief minister Virbhadra Singh, also his father.
"There was no poster or hoarding or banner which did not carry his picture. There was a full-page ad with his picture in the newspapers a day before voting," he said.
But after the victory, when the matter of installing his statue arose, the government failed to decide the location.
"It is not a political but an emotional thing for a son," Vikramaditya Singh said.
He also quoted a couplet by the last Mughal Emperor of India Bahadur Shah Zafar: "Kitna hai bad-naseeb 'Zafar' dafn ke liye, do gaz zameen bhi na mili kuch-e-yaar mein." Fissures in the Congress has come to fore with some party leaders openly criticising the functioning of the Sukhu government.
Vikramaditya Singh has been raising his concerns about functioning of the government while state Congress president Pratibha Singh, his mother, had been repeatedly pressing for rewarding the dedicated leaders of the organisation, who worked hard for the victory of the party.
She even said party leaders and MLAs are unhappy as their concerns are not being addressed.
Earlier, upset over the omission of some sections in the budget, Vikramaditya Singh had blamed negligence on the part of some officers and said they had taken strong cognisance of it.
He had told the PTI that multi-purpose workers of the public works department (PWD) have been left out in the budget and no reference has been made regarding the job-seekers sitting on dharnas for early declaration of results, a day after budget was presented.
Two of the six Congress MLAs who cross-voted for BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan on Tuesday - Rajender Rana and Sudhir Sharma - were also vocal against the government and had supported the protest by the candidates awaiting declaration of results of several posts.
Congress MLA from Sujanpur assembly seat, Rajinder Rana, had shot a letter to the chief minister saying that even after 14 months of formation of the government, the youths are still waiting for jobs.
"We had promised to provide employment to one lakh youth every year. The youth of the state are eagerly waiting for the fulfillment of that promise", he had said in the letter also posted on Facebook.&nbsp;

The CM further said he is trying to placate Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh who resigned as minister in the state government.

They may be upset with me, but a person like Abhishek Singhvi should have gone to the Rajya Sabha from Himachal Pradesh, but they did not vote for him and betrayed the party. This has never happened before in the history of state politics," said Sukhu.

The six Congress MLAs, who were issued show-cause notice for defying the whip for Rajya Sabha polls on Tuesday, appeared before the Speaker along with their lawyer and argued that they had not been provided all the relevant documents.
Senior advocate Satya Pal Jain, who represented the six Congress MLAs before the Speaker, argued hat they were only given the notice and the copy of the petition filed on Tuesday evening while other annexure were not supplied to them.
Jain said according to rules, seven days' time has to be given to the MLAs for filing the reply the copy of the petition is supplied to them.
The petition has been filed against the Congress against the six party MLAs who cross-voted in the Rajya Sabha elections.
Jain said there are five or six conditions under the anti-defection law, including seven days' time for reply, which have to be complied with. Even after supplying the copy of the petition, seven days' time has to be given for filing the reply, he said.
He asserted that the anti-defection law does not apply on voting in Rajya Sabha polls, he said, and added that the Supreme Court has repeatedly said it.
"We have urged the Speaker to give at least one week's time as per the principle of natural justice for filing the reply," Jain said.

Six Congress MLAs voted in favour of the BJP candidate in the Rajya Sabha polls in Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday with sources claiming they are "disappointed" with the working style of Chief Minister Sukhu.
Meanwhile, the state assembly was adjourned sine die after passing the Budget for 2024-25.
The Budget was passed in the absence of BJP members as 15 of them were suspended and the remaining ten staged a walk out.
The budget was presented on February 17, 2024 by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who also holds the finance portfolio.
Discussions on the budget were held for four days from February 19 to 22.

Members of the BJP Legislative Party led by Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur on Wednesday met Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, a day after the party won the lone Rajya Sabha seat in the state.
The meeting comes amid speculation of the BJP bringing a motion of no-confidence in the assembly against the Congress government in the state.
After meeting the Governor, Thakur said the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress government "has lost the moral right to stay in power," adding that the "damage that has been done is irreparable."
BJP leader Harsh Mahajan was elected to the upper house despite the Congress being in power in the state, after multiple Congress MLAs cross-voted in favour of the BJP.
Senior Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi lost the election.&nbsp;
"Some Congress MLAs have got notices over voting in the Rajya Sabha elections. Cross voting is not invalid in Rajya Sabha, as directed by the Election Commission," Thakur said.
The BJP leader said they approached the Governor against the Speaker's behaviour towards Opposition MLAs.&nbsp;
"We are not being heard in the Vidhan Sabha. Whenever we demand division during the financial bill, it is not allowed. The House is getting adjourned without our permission," Thakur said.
"We suspect that the Speaker could suspend BJP MLAs and some MLAs of Congress who voted for BJP in Rajya Sabha elections," he further added.&nbsp;
The Congress has 40 MLAs while the BJP has 25 in the 68-member state assembly, the Budget session of which begins today. The remaining three seats are held by independents.

The Himachal Pradesh High Court has castigated doctors at the Palampur Civil Hospital for subjecting a minor rape survivor to the two-finger test and directed the state government to pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the child after recovering the amount from the erring doctors. Holding that the Medico-legal Case (MLC) report in the child rape case was "demeaning", a division bench of the high court comprising Justices Tarlok Singh Chauhan and Satyen Vaidya also asked the government to hold an inquiry against the doctors who examined the survivor to fix responsibility.
The court observed that the MLC was "self-incriminating, self-inculpatory and hitting the privacy of minor rape survivor" and slammed the doctors for conducting the two-finger test despite such an examination being held as violative of the right of the survivor, her physical and mental integrity.
It also directed all medical professionals from carrying out such a test and warned doctors conducting such a test would be liable to prosecution.
The court said the "gross insensitivity" shown by all those who designed the MLC cannot go unnoticed and held the proforma designed by the hospital as "bad in law" as it ignored section 53 A of the Indian Evidence Act and also violated the guidelines and protocol issued by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for health professionals dealing with survivors of sexual violence.
The Court had summoned the Secretary(Health) of the state, who was unable to justify the proforma issued by the hospital, and said it was designed by some of the doctors and has been withdrawn immediately.&nbsp;

Fresh landslides and cloudbursts on Wednesday hit Himachal Pradesh as the state recovers from previous infrastructural damage. Uprooted trees and vehicles were seen flowing away with rainwater.
A bridge in the Baddi area collapsed after succumbing to high water levels in the Balad river, causing disruption of traffic to Punjab and Haryana.
Some houses have been damaged in Shakal village on the outskirts of Solan city as gushing waters entered houses and reports of damage to a few houses and vehicles in the Subathu area following the landslide have poured in, Deputy Commissioner, Solan, Manmohan Sharma told PTI.
As a safety measure, three houses were vacated in the Panthaghati and Sanjauli areas of Shimla city and landslides and uprooting of trees have been reported in some parts of the city, Deputy Commissioner, Shimla, Aditya Negi said.
Heavy rains lashed several parts of the state, with Bilaspur receiving 181 mm of rain since Tuesday evening followed by Berthin 160 mm, Shimla 132 mm, Mandi 118 mm, Sundernagar 105 mm, Palampur 91 mm, Solan 77 mm. Heavy rains are still continuing in several districts.
Meanwhile, New Delhi also experienced light to moderate rainfall, which is expected to persist through the day.

Himachal Pradesh's Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, stated that the process of rebuilding the state's infrastructure would likely take a year, according to a report by HT.
The relentless downpour spanning from August 13 to 15 has resulted in an unprecedented monetary setback of around ₹7,500 crore for this year's monsoon season, further exacerbating the region's challenges.
The period between August 13 and 15 witnessed a surge in destruction that surpassed the damage witnessed in July. Significantly, a total of 1,762 houses have been completely destroyed, while 8,952 houses have incurred partial damage.
The death toll in rain-devastated Himachal Pradesh has reached 74, as another body was recovered from the debris of a Shiva temple, and two additional casualties were reported in the Chamba district, officials announced on Thursday.
Out of these fatalities, 21 occurred in three major landslides in Shimla, specifically at the Shiva temple in Summer Hill, and in Fagli and Krishnanagar. There are concerns that eight individuals might still be trapped beneath the temple debris.
At the Summer Hill landslide site, workers retrieved the body of P L Sharma, the head of the Mathematics department at Himachal Pradesh University, on Wednesday, as stated by Shimla Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi to PTI.
Chamba district reported two rain-related deaths, one due to a fall from height and the other from drowning, bringing the total death count over the past four days to 74, according to the state's emergency operation center.
The state experienced heavy rains for three consecutive days, beginning on Sunday. Rainfall reduced after Tuesday, and on Thursday, there were sporadic light showers in some areas.
Since the monsoon's onset on June 24, a total of 217 individuals have lost their lives due to rain-related incidents in Himachal Pradesh.
Efforts are ongoing at the landslide sites in Shimla, with 14 bodies recovered from Summer Hill, five from Fagli, and two from Krishnanagar, shared SP Gandhi.

Fourteen bodies were recovered from the sites of two landslides in the state capital, and officials feared there could be more people trapped under the debris of the Shiva temple in the Summer Hill area.
The shrine was crowded with devotees, offering prayers on an important day of the holy month of Sawan.
Nineteen people died in rain-related incidents in Mandi district, Deputy Commissioner Arindam Chaudhary told PTI.
In Solan, another badly affected district, 11 people including seven members of a family have been killed.
The weather office predicted extremely heavy rains in nine out of 12 districts of the state, barring Kullu, Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti, on Monday and issued a yellow warning for Tuesday.
In a second landslide, five bodies have been pulled out of the rubble in Fagli area while 17 persons rescued, Shimla SP Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi told PTI.
The officials said heavy rains are hampering rescue operations in Shimla several parts of which were without electricity since Sunday night as landslides and uprooted trees damaged power lines.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu earlier said nine bodies have been pulled out of the debris from a Shiva temple in the Summer Hill area and the other site in the Fagli area where several houses were buried under mud and slush.
All schools and colleges in the state were closed on Monday. According to the state emergency operation centre, 621 roads were closed in the state because of the calamity.
In Hamirpur district, four people have died due to incessant rains. Hamirpur Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa said that two persons are missing.
One person was swept away by the flood waters while two others were rescued on Sunday night. In another incident, an elderly woman was buried alive while her son was rescued after their house collapsed due to rains, the officials said.
In Rangas area of Hamirpur, a woman was killed in a landslide, while an 80-year-old man died in a house collapse incident in Bhagatu panchayat.
In Solan district's Jadon village, seven members of a family were killed in a cloudburst on Sunday night.
Two houses in the district were washed away following the cloudburst. While six people were rescued, seven others were killed, a police official said.
The dead have been identified as Harnam (38), Kamal Kishore (35), Hemlata (34), Rahul (14), Neha (12), Golu (8) and Raksha (12), Superintendent of Police, Solan, Gaurav Singh said.
In Balera panchayat of Solan, two children died as their makeshift house collapsed in a landslide. Another woman died in a landslide in Banal village of Ramsheher tehsil, said Deputy Commissioner of Solan Manmohan Sharma, adding a person died in Baddi area.
In Mandi district, seven members of a family, including a two-year-old, were killed in a landslide late on Sunday night in the Seghli panchayat. Three persons were rescued, Deputy Commissioner Chaudhary said.
Six bodies have been recovered at Sambhal near Pandoh. The bodies are yet to be identified, the deputy commissioner said, adding two deaths have been reported from Dharampur area.
One boy died in Sirmaur district, according to reports.
The chief minister visited the site of the temple collapse in Shimla and said all efforts are being made to rescue people buried underneath the debris.
"Distressing news has emerged from Shimla, where the Shiva Mandir collapsed as a result of the heavy rainfall. As of now, nine bodies have been retrieved. The local administration is diligently working to clear the debris in order to rescue individuals who may still be trapped. Om Shanti," he posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Later, talking to reporters at the site, he said, "There was a gathering in the Lord Shiva temple at the time of the incident as it was Monday of the holy month of Sawan. All possible efforts are being made to rescue the people buried under the debris." Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are engaged in relief and rescue operations in the hill state.
The Unesco world heritage Shimla-Kalka railway line was damaged near Summer Hill after a landslide swept away a 50-metre bridge, leaving a portion of the track hanging in the air.
Along with the Army, personnel from the SDRF, NDRF, ITBP, and state police, among others, were involved in relief and rescue works, an official statement said.
Deputy Commissioner of Shimla Aditya Negi told PTI that many people were feared buried in the two landslides in Summer Hill and Fagli areas.

A total of 170 incidents of cloudburst and landslide have been reported in the state this monsoon season and about 9,600 houses partially or completely damaged.&nbsp;

Heavy precipitation a day earlier had led to flash floods, landslides, and building collapses. Rescue operations continued on the second day, especially in Shimla's Summerhill and Fagli areas.
Commenting on the latest developments, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said, "Dealing with this devastation, restoration work, building roads etc will take a long time."
When asked about the reopening of schools, he said, "It depends on the weather. We will take a decision after discussions in the evening."
On coordination with the Central government, the CM revealed, "Yesterday, I spoke to Amit Shah. I spoke to JP Nadda, Kharge, Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi. All of them spoke about assistance."
