India and Bangladesh have summoned each other's envoys following recent tensions over the Border Security Force's actions along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

The Ministry of External Affairs summoned the Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India, Nural Islam, on Monday, following a similar action taken against the Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka, Pranay Verma, on Sunday.
This move comes after the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry raised serious concerns regarding the recent activities along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Bangladesh's Foreign Secretary, Ambassador Md Jashim Uddin, expressed the country's "deep concern" over the actions of India's Border Security Force (BSF). These activities, including the alleged unauthorized attempt to construct barbed wire fencing, have led to tensions and disturbances in the region.
The Bangladesh Foreign Secretary also addressed the recent tragic incident involving the killing of a Bangladeshi citizen in Sunamganj by the BSF. He conveyed "deep concern and disappointment" over the incident.
In response, Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma emphasized the importance of a cooperative approach between the two countries to address border security issues. He stated that India is committed to ensuring a crime-free border, focusing on tackling smuggling, criminal activities, and human trafficking. Verma also highlighted the ongoing communication and cooperation between India's BSF and Bangladesh's Border Guard (BGB), aiming to enhance understanding and joint efforts to address border security challenges.
"We are committed to maintaining effective cooperation between our forces to combat crime and secure the border," Verma told reporters after his meeting with the Bangladesh Foreign Secretary.

In her remarks, Banerjee also accused the BSF of attempting to frame the state government for the situation.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has accused the Border Security Force (BSF) of facilitating the entry of Bangladeshi infiltrators into India, claiming that the force is working to destabilize the state. She also hinted that the actions of the BSF are aligned with a larger plan orchestrated by the central government.
During an administrative review meeting at the state secretariat, Banerjee stated, "We have received reports that the BSF is allowing infiltrators to cross into India through border regions such as Islampur, Sitai, and Chopra. The force is also torturing people and creating instability in the state."
The Chief Minister continued, "There seems to be a larger plan behind this, driven by the central government. However, we want peace on both sides of the border, and we maintain a cordial relationship with Bangladesh."
Banerjee further directed the state's Director General of Police, Rajeev Kumar, to investigate the locations where these infiltrators are staying after crossing into West Bengal. She announced her intention to send a formal letter to the central government expressing her concerns.
In her remarks, Banerjee also accused the BSF of attempting to frame the state government for the situation, saying, "The BSF is trying to blame the Trinamool Congress government for this. I will instruct the DGP to trace the whereabouts of these infiltrators after they enter the state."
