Giving them a big boost ahead of the Asian Games, India on Sunday rose to third in FIH rankings following their Asian Champions Trophy triumph.
India (2771.35 points) jumped one place to third and went past England (2763.50 points) behind top-ranked Netherlands (3095.90 points) and Belgium (2917.87 points).
This was the second time India rose to No 3 in FIH rankings. India had achieved a similar ranking in 2021 after securing a bronze in the Tokyo Olympics, which was their first medal at the Games in 41 years.
On Saturday, the Harmanpreet Singh-led side defeated Malaysia 4-3 to lift the ACT title. They made an incredible comeback from 1-3 down.
In the last edition of the event in 2021, India had finished third.
The Indian hockey team&rsquo;s next assignment will be the Asian Games in Hangzhou from September 23.
The ACT runners-up Malaysia remained on ninth in the FIH rankings.
Apart from India and Malaysia, South Korea too find themselves at 11th while Pakistan is placed 16th.

India have already qualified for the semis and are currently top of the standings in the Asian Champions Trophy.

Once deemed the constant threat for India, Hassan Sardar, Pakistan's legendary centre forward has put his weight behind Harmanpreet Singh-led side in the Hockey World Cup 2023.&nbsp;
World Cup champion and Olympic gold medallist Sardar in an interview with PTI stated that he's amazed by the maturity shown by the Indian team in recent years. And in his opinion, India could finish in the top four this time around.&nbsp;

Sardar, who mesmerised the Indians with 11 goals during the 1982 World Cup in Mumbai, said: "I had said before the Tokyo Olympics that this Indian team is capable of winning medals at the highest level. They won bronze but there is hardly any major difference in the top 4 teams in world hockey now."

India's former hockey coach Sjoerd Marijne made a big allegation about captain Manpreet Singh in his book Will Power. 
Marijne, who led the women's hockey team to a historic 4th-place finish at Tokyo Olympics, wrote in his book that Manpreet Singh had allegedly told a player to stop playing so well during the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. 
Explaining the incident in his soon-to-be-released memoir, the Dutchman wrote that when he picked a teenager for the Gold Coast Games he was convinced a new star had been discovered. But when the player failed to make any impression in the quadrennial event he was mystified.

He further wrote that the then high-performance director, David John, had claimed later that Manpreet told the player not to play so well because his friends could not get into the team. 
He added that he won't know if Manpreet had said so jokingly or not but the revelation made him very angry. 
Interestingly, it was under Marijne leadership in 2017 that Manpreet was made captain of the Indian hockey team. 
While talking about the incident to Indian Express, Marijne said that he trusted Manpreet and never thought he would do this.
Meanwhile, it is not the first time a coach has made allegations about India's men's hockey team. On the back of India's horrid run in the 2012 London Olympics, coach Michael Nobbs has alleged that a group of players from Punjab were more focused on themselves than the team.
