In a recent episode of the DC Podcast, Khaleel shared insights into his journey back to international cricket, highlighting the mental challenges he faced during his time away from the national team. "The way the past few months were going and the way the IPL started, I had the intuition that something good would happen," he reflected. His consistent performance in the IPL bolstered his confidence, making him feel prepared for a call-up. "As the IPL matches progressed, my confidence continued to grow. I realised I was bowling well, and it has always been about moving one step ahead. Finally, when the name came, I was so happy, and it's a step ahead for me."
Khaleel's last appearance for India was in a T20 match against Bangladesh in Nagpur back in November 2019. Discussing his absence from the international scene, Khaleel conveyed the emotional struggle of watching the national team from the sidelines. "2019 was a long time ago. Every day, at the back of my mind, I missed that feeling of playing for the country," he said. He frequently imagined himself in the matches, thinking about what he would have done differently, which turned every day into a mental battle filled with introspective conversations.
Determined to make a comeback, Khaleel committed himself fully to cricket following the last IPL season, taking only a week's break before participating in all the domestic matches scheduled. "It's tough as a fast bowler, but I made up my mind that irrespective of what happens to me, I'm going to play all the matches. I pushed myself mentally in the past year and have grown with it," he explained. For Khaleel, the mental fortitude to persist in his efforts comes from a life dedicated entirely to cricket.
In an IPL season that has proved challenging for bowlers, Khaleel sees a unique opportunity to distinguish himself. "IPL 2024 has been a nightmare for bowlers but this is the best moment for the fast bowlers to come to light," he noted. He emphasized the importance of excelling under pressure, "If a bowler performs in tough situations like these, he will be considered a King, and I want to be that King."

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has indicated that the contentious 'Impact Player' rule, currently under scrutiny during the ongoing IPL season, might be reconsidered. This rule has led to teams surpassing the 250-run mark on eight occasions so far, significantly affecting the dynamics of the game, especially for bowlers. As a result, there has been widespread debate among players, coaches, and cricket experts about its implications.
During a media interaction at the BCCI office, Shah mentioned that the rule was initially introduced on a trial basis. "Impact player rule was brought in as a test case. On the bright side, it is providing additional playing opportunities to two Indian players," he stated, highlighting the positive aspects of the rule which includes enhancing competitiveness and offering more Indians a chance to play.
Despite the opportunities it creates, the rule has not been universally welcomed. India's captain, Rohit Sharma, has pointed out that it disadvantages all-rounders by limiting their opportunities to bowl. Shah responded to these concerns by reaffirming the BCCI's openness to stakeholder feedback: "But still, if the players feel that this is not alright we will speak on it. However, no one has said anything about it yet. After the IPL and the World Cup, we will have a meeting and decide," Shah explained.
He further added, "After the World Cup, we will consult with players, franchise and broadcasters and decide about the future course. It's not a permanent rule nor am I saying we will move past it," indicating that the fate of the impact player rule will be thoroughly evaluated with all stakeholders' input.
In addition to discussing the impact player rule, Shah also addressed the topic of rest for India&rsquo;s T20 World Cup-bound players, who are currently participating in the IPL. He argued against the need for rest, suggesting that the IPL serves as optimal preparation for the upcoming tournament. "Why do you want to rest players? This is (as good as a) practice session, you cannot get any better opportunity (to prepare) than this," said Shah.
He elaborated on the benefits of the IPL environment, which includes a diverse range of international players. "There is a cosmopolitan team in front of you, one team has a bowler from New Zealand, the other has a bowler from Australia and the next one has a bowler from Sri Lanka," he remarked, underscoring the diverse competitive exposure players receive.
Shah concluded by emphasizing the strategic advantage gained from such exposure, particularly for bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah: &ldquo;If we rest a bowler he won't get a chance to bowl at Travis Head. When (Jasprit) Bumrah will bowl to Travis Head, he will understand where to bowl to him and how. There is no better opportunity," he noted.

At least half a dozen Aam Aadmi Party's student wing workers were detained by Delhi Police for raising slogans during an IPL match here at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday, officials said.
The workers, wearing T-shirts with 'Jail Ka Jawab Vote Se' written on them, raised slogans during a match between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals, they said.
'Jail Ka Jawab Vote Se' is the AAP's campaign against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who is currently lodged in jail in connection with a money laundering case. Voting for the seven constituencies in Delhi in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections will be held on May 25.
"Our staff are deployed at various points in the stadium. We have detained some persons for creating public nuisance in one of the stands. They are being bound down accordingly and will be released after legal formalities," a senior police officer said.
"We encourage all spectators to enjoy the game and not indulge in such activity in the stadium," he said.
The AAP, in a press statement, said that party's student wing Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS), protested against what it termed as the "illegal arrest" of the Delhi chief minister during the IPL match.
"During this protest, the students wore T-shirts which had 'Jail Ka Jawab Vote Se' written on them. The students raised slogans against the BJP government," the statement said.
The AAP also shared a video of the sloganeering on its official account on X.

KKR is set to play against DC on Monday, marking their sixth match at their home ground. They have lost two out of the five matches played there this year. In their last match on April 26 in Kolkata, KKR scored over 200 runs against Punjab Kings but couldn't defend it. Despite the loss, KKR currently holds the second spot on the points table.
