During IPL 2023, Akash Madhwal, Nehal Wadhera and Cameron Green were also reprimanded for indiscipline and they were made to wear hilarious jumpsuits. <p>Ishan Kishan, who was recently dropped from BCCI's central contract list, had secretary Jay Shah chatting with him on Sunday evening after Mumbai Indians' IPL game, a gesture which could be viewed as silver lining for the maverick wicketkeeper-batter.</p>
<p>The 25-year-old from Jharkhand, who returned to India in the middle of the South Africa tour last year, citing travel fatigue, has been reluctant to play first class cricket.</p>
<p>He didn't feature in a single Ranji Trophy game this season despite being sent repeated feelers by the Indian team management.</p>
<p>Instead, he was seen practising with his MI skipper Hardik Pandya in Baroda, gearing up for the IPL. He even ignored instructions to play Jharkhand's last Ranji Trophy game against Rajasthan, leading to the loss of contract.</p>
<p>While he recently made a comeback for RBI in the DY Patil T20 Cup, his return to top-flight cricket started on an indifferent note as he was dismissed for a duck against Gujarat Titans.</p>
<p>However, Shah was seen having a light-hearted chat with Kishan and national captain Rohit Sharma. While the contents of the discussion aren't known as of now the all-powerful secretary warming up to a cricketer, who had fallen out of favour, certainly augurs well for the latter.</p>
<p>Kishan's chances of a comeback in the T20 World Cup have dwindled in the past few months with Rishabh Pant back in contention and KL Rahul also making his intentions clear by picking up the big gloves.</p>
<p>To add to that, Sanju Samson has also started off the IPL well while Dhruv Jurel and Jitesh Sharma are also in the mix for the coveted spot in the national team.</p>
<p>But IPL gives Kishan a massive opportunity to make a case with consistent performances with selectors travelling for select games to check on World Cup hopefuls.</p>
<p>The best part about Secretary Shah's short little conversation was the presence of national captain Rohit, which effectively meant that Kishan would be judged by the yardstick of his performance even though his attitude had come under the scanner in the past few months.</p>
<p>MI batting coach Kieron Pollard also threw his weight behind the embattled opener and said he will come good in the coming matches as he is an "experienced" player within the setup.</p>
<p>"For him, again, he did not score tonight so, we can look at all sorts of different things, but it's a long tournament, he is an experienced guy within our setup and we expect big things from Ishan." <br><br>"He is in a good space, he has been practising well and has been doing fairly decently, so hopefully within the next couple of games, you can see great performances from him and all of you will continue to laud his brains when he does that," Pollard said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Jharkhand keeper-batter Ishan Kishan's reluctance to play first-class cricket and focus only on the IPL could prompt the BCCI to make a minimum number of Ranji Trophy games mandatory for players in order to be eligible for the cash-rich league's lucrative auction pool.</p>
<p>It has been learnt that BCCI brass has already instructed Kishan to play Jharkhand's last group league game against Rajasthan in Jamshedpur, starting February 16.</p>
<p>The manner in which Kishan had skipped match after match after returning midway from South Africa tour citing "travel fatigue" hasn't exactly gone down well with men who matter in the Indian cricket establishment.</p>
<p>More so after it was found that he is training in Baroda with his new MI skipper Hardik Pandya while his state team is languishing near bottom of group A table.</p>
<p>There is a general consensus that a strict policy need to be adhered to so that a group of young players don't make "playing IPL to IPL" a habit.</p>
<p>"The decision makers in BCCI are well aware that some players don't want to play any red ball cricket. If they are out of Indian team, they would at best play a few Mushtaq Ali T20 games and then not report for state team duty during red ball season," a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.</p>
<p>"To rein in such players, board in all likelihood will make it mandatory to play 3-4 Ranji Trophy games, failing which, they can't play IPL or even appear in IPL auction if released by their franchise.</p>
<p>"The state units feel unless the diktat comes from top of BCCI, some of the young stars will treat Ranji Trophy with disdain." It is understood that even Indian team's think-tank are pissed off with a certain section of players, who are always reluctant to play Ranji Trophy even when they are fit.</p>
<p>"We can understand Hardik Pandya's case as his body can't take the rigours of red ball cricket. He can't withstand the workload of Test cricket and India needs him fit for ICC events.</p>
<p>"But some of the other youngsters, whenever you call them, they will cite that they are currently doing physio work. There needs to be a stop somewhere," the official said.</p>
<p>It will be interesting to find out if Kishan finally leaves his "new training base" in Baroda and is back in Jamshedpur for Jharkhand's final game of the tournament.</p>
<p>Asked if Kishan would find himself out of BCCI retainership (he has a grade C annual contract of Rs 1 crore), the official said: "No discussions have taken place as of now regarding central contracts." No workload related instruction from BCCI to IPL team.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But it was a rather straightforward move as Rohit Sharma was given a rest during the ODIs against the West Indies. Now that Rohit has returned to the side and will occupy one opening slot, the Indian think-tank will have to put in a thought as to where to accommodate Kishan.</p>
<p>Opening is also Kishan&rsquo;s most successful slot in the batting order as he had made double hundred there against Bangladesh last year.</p>
<p>Former Indian coach Ravi Shastri too had favoured Kishan opening saying his uninhibited striking will give India an early upper hand over their opponents.</p>
<p>If he opens, then Gill will have to come down to No. 3 and Virat Kohli will have to take the No. 4 slot. It also means that the returning Shreyas Iyer will have to move down to No.5.</p>
<p>If it happens that way then Hardik Pandya will be coming in at No.6 and there will be no place for Suryakumar Yadav in the side.</p>
<p>Despite his modest record, India were dabbling with the option of Suryakumar in the ODIs because of his prowess at the backend of the innings.</p>
<p>If India indeed want to accommodate Suryakumar in the 11 then they might just have to put a temporary hold on Shreyas' comeback.</p>
<p>The other option India can explore to give Kishan a place at No. 3 &ndash; Rohit and Gill as openers &ndash; with Kohli at No. 4 and Shreyas at No. 5.</p>
<p>The 25-year-old from Jharkhand can also be fitted in the middle-order as he has a reasonable record at No. 4, scoring two fifties in four innings. They can mull the southpaw at number five too as it gives a certain stability at the top but the only peril is that Kishan has not batted in that position in his 17-match ODI career.</p>
<p>Sanju Samson is here as the travelling reserve keeping in mind the injury of Rahul, and he is not a part of the 17-member India squad.</p>
<p>India will not be able to use his services as a wicketkeeper batsman because one of the players, Rahul in this case, has to be ruled out of the Asia Cup for Samson to come into the equation.</p>

<p>Ishan Kishan&rsquo;s promotion to number 4 in place of the centurion Virat Kohli, came as a surprise for many but India wanted the southpaw to showcase his power-hitting skills in a bid to add quick runs.<br><br>And so he did. <br><br>Kishan, playing in his second Test, however did so holding a special bat in his hand. 'RP17' was engraved on the willow, denoting the special connection with Rishabh Pant.<br><br>Playing Pant-esque shots, including several one-handed sixes, Kishan achieved his maiden Test fifty in just 33 balls. It was a signature single-handed six that Kishan smacked to complete the half-century.&nbsp;<br><br>Speaking post at the end of Day 4, Kishan credited a lot of his performance to Pant, who is currently recuperating from a devastating car accident from December 2022.&nbsp;<br><br>The 25-year-old said, 'I was at NCA before this. Pant was also there. He knows how I play. We have known each other since under-19 days.
