Jimmy Kimmel, the host of the 95th Academy Awards, made a joke about the lack of female directorial nominees in his opening monologue while discussing James Cameron, who missed out on a Best Director nomination for &lsquo;Avatar: The Way of Water&rsquo;.
Kimmel questioned how the Academy could neglect to nominate the filmmaker. &lsquo;I mean, how does the Academy not nominate the guy who directed &lsquo;Avatar&rsquo;? What do they think he is, a woman?&rsquo;, Kimmel joked.
This year, nominated in the Best Director category were Todd Field (T&aacute;r), Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Martin McDonagh (The Banshees of Inisherin), Ruben &Ouml;stlund (Triangle of Sadness) and Steven Spielberg (The Fabelmans).
New Zealand filmmaker Jane Campion won the Academy Award for best director for &lsquo;The Power of the Dog&rsquo; last year.
So far, only seven women have been nominated for the <a href="https://www.editorji.com/entertainment-news/oscars-2023-rrr-makes-india-proud-wins-best-original-song-award-for-naatu-naatu-1678676222193">Oscars</a>. Campion was the third woman to take home the prestigious award after Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker) and Chlo&eacute; Zhao (Nomadland).

The box office collection of James Cameron's &lsquo;Avatar: The Way of Water&rsquo; increased rapidly in India in its second weekend. The film has collected ₹300 crore so far.

James Cameron's &lsquo;Avatar: The Way of Water&rsquo; continues its successful run at the Indian box office. The sequel to the 2009 blockbuster showed a strong hold over the second week and the film entered the Rs 300 crore club within 10 days of its release.
According to a report on the trade website Box Office India, &lsquo;Avatar: The Way of Water&rsquo; collected Rs 21 crore in India on Saturday (December 24) with around 70-75 percent occupancy. It is the highest collection ever for a Hollywood film in the second Saturday in India.
The film then went on to earn Rs 24-26 crore on Sunday, December 25, bringing the total collection of the film to Rs 300 crore.
According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala, the movie has crossed $850 million globally. He tweeted &lsquo;#AvatarTheWayOfWater crosses $600 Million Internationally and $250 Million at the North America Box office, $850 Million Total.. (sic).&rsquo;
Director James Cameron had quoted that the film would make profits when it reaches $2 billion.&nbsp;

The newly released film is also being circulated on the social media platform Telegram. Besides the English version, the dubbed versions including Malayalam, Telugu, Hindi, and others are available.

Rakesh Gowthaman, the owner of Chennai&rsquo;s popular twin-screen Vetri Theatres, who was very excited about the release of &lsquo;Avatar 2&rsquo;, told Indianexpress.com that the producers are demanding 10 per cent more than the usual term.
&lsquo;We said we will give 5 per cent more as a special case for Avatar 2. But, they didn&rsquo;t agree. We usually pay 55 per cent share in the first week. This time, we offered 60 per cent,&rsquo; Rakesh told Indianexpress.com.
However, he added that negotiations are still on with the producers and he is hopeful that they could find an agreeable solution soon.
&lsquo;Avatar 2&rsquo; released in Tamil Nadu on about 300 screens. Many single screens have agreed to the terms demanded by the producers. However, a few refused to budge.&nbsp;

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the director, who has been traveling around the world to promote his forthcoming film, shared the news while virtually attending the new Pressure: James Cameron into the Abyss exhibit opening that took place in the Natural History Museum.

Director James Cameron opened up on why it took him over a decade to make the sequel of the blockbuster first 'Avatar' movie. &lsquo;Avatar: The Way of Water&rsquo; is set to hit the theatres this month and James is all ready to helm the third and fourth sequel of the film but it still depends on how the second part works.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the director said, &lsquo;I started confronting this issue of, Do I even want to make another movie, let alone another Avatar movie?' He also added that the first part was &lsquo;a movie that&rsquo;s asking you to cry for a tree.&rsquo; He mentioned that the environmental issues and the issue of climate change played a huge role in the sequel.
James said, &lsquo;People are angsty enough. We&rsquo;ll be injecting this film into a marketplace in a different time. And maybe things that were over the horizon in 2009 are upon us now. Maybe it&rsquo;s not entertainment anymore.&rsquo;

Author Kim Sherwood is&nbsp;going to&nbsp;write a new trilogy of James Bond books, becoming the first female author in the series of spy novels created by Ian Fleming.&nbsp;

 Ian Fleming confirmed the news in a tweet and revealed that the yet to be titled trilogy will feature a world where Bond is missing and will instead focus on a new generation of 00 agents.

Author Kim Sherwood is going to write a new trilogy of James Bond books, becoming the first female author in the series of spy novels created by Ian Fleming.
The yet to be titled trilogy's opening instalment is set for release in September 2022 and features a world where Bond is missing and will instead focus on a new generation of 00 agents.
"I want to bring a feminist perspective to the canon, as a young woman writer," she said. "I want to honour what's come before, but also create something new and create a space for all of us to be heroes".
Sherwood also confirmed that "old favourites" including Bond's trusted secretary Ms Moneypenny and spy boss M, will return in the trilogy.
