TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee submitted a written apology on Thursday for his remarks against Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, which he had also apologized for in the House. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla informed the House that the apology had been given both in writing and verbally.
The issue arose when some members of the ruling alliance raised concerns about Banerjee's comments as soon as the House convened. Birla intervened, stating that such remarks were unfortunate and underscoring that personal attacks against any member were inappropriate, especially when directed at women. He emphasized that while disagreements were part of democracy, dignity and respect should always be upheld.
Banerjee&rsquo;s comments were made during Wednesday&rsquo;s discussion on amendments to the Disaster Management Act, where he accused the central government of failing to cooperate during the COVID-19 pandemic. Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai countered, praising Prime Minister Modi&rsquo;s leadership, while Scindia supported him, highlighting India&rsquo;s global role in aiding other countries during the crisis.
Banerjee's remarks led to a verbal spat and an adjournment. When the House reconvened, Banerjee apologized, but Scindia rejected the apology, stating that while policy debates were welcome, personal attacks on him or on women would not be tolerated. Madhavi Raje Scindia, mother of Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia passed away on Wednesday at Delhi's AIIMS hospital. She was 70.
She breathed her last at 9.28 am on Wednesday.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia&rsquo;s mother and the Rajmata of the Gwalior royal family, Madhavi Raje was under treatment at AIIMS, Delhi over the last few months. Her condition was said to be critical over the past couple of months. She breathed her last at 9.28 am today. Om Shanti!&rdquo; read an official statement from Scindia&rsquo;s office.
In 1966, she married Rajkumar Madhavrao Scindia from the Sindhiya royal family of Gwalior. According to Marathi tradition, her name changed after marriage and she became Madhavi Raje Scindia.
Initially, she was referred to as Maharani, but after Madhavrao's demise, she began to be called Rajmata.
Madhavi Raje's husband, former Union Minister Madhavrao Scindia, passed away in a plane accident near Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh on September 30, 2001.

Digi Yatra is purely voluntary for air passengers and personnel at airports have been directed to collect data for the application only with the consent of passengers, according to Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.
There have been complaints that biometric data for Digi Yatra were being gathered from passengers without their consent and the issue was flagged to the minister by Rajya Sabha member Saket Gokhale.
Digi Yatra, which provides for contactless, seamless movement of passengers at various check points at airports based on Facial Recognition Technology (FRT), is currently available at a minimum 13 airports for domestic passengers.
In response to the member, Scindia has said that the issue was examined and "airport operators have been advised to sensitise Digi buddies on consent taking process and keeping use of Digi Yatra completely voluntary".
To support passengers with the use of Digi Yatra, services of individuals called Digi buddies have been made available at the airports.
The minister, in a letter dated January 24, told Gokhale that Digi Yatra is a voluntary process for seamless and hassle free air travel which is purely voluntary.
"Consent of passenger is pre-requisite for taking face biometric on kiosk based registration. Further, the data is automatically purged from the airport system after 24 hours of departure of the flight," Scindia said in the letter, a copy of which has been shared by Gokhale on social media platform X.
The data shared by a passenger for Digi Yatra is stored in an encrypted format. For availing the service, a passenger has to register his or her details on DigiYatra app using Aadhaar-based validation and a self image capture. In the next step, the boarding pass has to be scanned and the credentials are shared with the airport.
At the airport e-gate, the passenger has to first scan the bar-coded boarding pass and the facial recognition system installed at the e-gate will validate the passenger's identity and travel document. Once this process is done, the passenger can enter the airport through the e-gate.
The passenger will have to follow the normal procedure to clear the security and board the aircraft.

The four-time MLA, who has reportedly been infected with COVID-19 four times, cited health concerns for refusing to contest the election.

Civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has said that the airfares on certain routes from Delhi have been reduced by 14%-61%. This after, a meet with the airlines' advisory group on 5th June.&nbsp;
&ldquo;I am happy to say that the maximum fares on flights connecting Delhi to Srinagar, Leh, Pune and Mumbai were reduced by 14-61 percent on June 6. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the ministry are monitoring the daily fares", Scindia said while addressing a press conference.&nbsp;
The civil aviation minister also said that the airlines would not be allowed to indulge in predatory pricing after the suspension of Go First flights. As per Scindia, there is a capacity squeeze after Go First suspended its flights. The ministry has now given permission permissions had been granted for the deployment of additional flights on 68 routes to ease the seat shortage, particularly on flights from Delhi to Srinagar, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad and Leh.
The aviation ministry uses an algorithm that works on Reservation Bucket Designator (RBD) to determine the ticket pricing. But airlines have the authority to determine airfares and various factors which are taken into account including market dynamics and season. However, Scindia explained that those companies also have a social responsibility and that there should be a limit on airfare hike.&nbsp;
He also emphasised on keeping the airfares on check for destinations that had unforeseen incidents, that includes Imphal in the aftermath of violent clashes between different tribal groups, and Bhubaneswar following the train crash in Odisha&rsquo;s Balasore district.&nbsp;
"There have been some unforeseen incidents in Manipur and now in Odisha, fare rates should be taken care of. Apart from these, the fare rate remains maximum from Delhi to cities like Srinagar, Leh, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, and Bengaluru," Scindia said.

As airfares have been skyrocketing in the wake of Go First crisis, the government on Monday asked airlines to devise a mechanism to ensure reasonable airfares amid a surge in air ticket prices, particularly on certain routes that were earlier served by Go First.
In the case of the unfortunate Odisha tragedy, airlines have been advised to provide free carriage (cargo) services to the families of the deceased, the civil aviation ministry said.
During an hour-long meeting of the airlines advisory group, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia shared his concerns about the steep rise in airfares on certain routes.
Airlines have been asked to self-monitor airfares on routes that have seen a considerable rise in ticket prices, particularly those that were served by Go First earlier.
Go First stopped flying from May 3 and the reduction of capacity due to the crisis at the budget airline has come at a time when the peak domestic air travel period is round the corner.
A mechanism should be devised by airlines to ensure reasonable pricing within the high RBDs (Reservation Booking Designator) and the same would be monitored by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the ministry said in a statement.
Airfares are deregulated under the current regulatory regime.
Besides, the ministry has said that during any calamity, airlines need to keep a tight check on the pricing of air tickets "in view of the humanitarian situation and monitor and control any surge in ticket prices to/ from that region".
After the deregulation of the country's airline sector, airfares are market-driven and are neither established nor regulated by the government. Airline pricing runs in multiple levels (buckets or Reservation Booking Designators).
Scindia, on March 16, informed the Lok Sabha that "airfares are neither established nor regulated by the government".
"The airline pricing system runs in multiple levels (buckets) which are in line with practices being followed globally. The prices are fixed by airlines keeping in mind the market, demand, seasonality and other market forces. The airfare increases with an increase in demand for seats as the lower fare buckets get sold out fast when bookings are offered by airlines," he had said in a written reply.
India is one of the fastest-growing civil aviation markets in the world and domestic passenger traffic has been rising after being significantly impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
In April, domestic airlines flew 128.88 lakh passengers, as per the latest official data.
Crisis-hit Go First is undergoing a voluntary insolvency resolution process.

Speaking to NDTV, Scindia said that heavy festival rush led to congestion and long waiting hours at several of the country&rsquo;s airports but with implementation of new measures the issue will be resolved in the coming days
Earlier, Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) on Wednesday said necessary actions taken to reduce congestion at the Delhi airport have resulted in "least wait time" for boarding at check points and entry gates.
Listing out the measures, the ministry in a series of tweets said more Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) manpower are underway and four X-ray machines have been added for baggage check.

The cap on domestic airfare will be removed from August 31, almost 27 months after it was imposed due to Covid-19.&nbsp;
"The decision to remove air fare caps has been taken after careful analysis of daily demand and prices of air turbine fuel (ATF). Stabilisation has set in and we are certain that the sector is poised for growth in domestic traffic in the near future," <a href="https://www.editorji.com/business-news/scindia-holds-meeting-safety-issues-and-concerns-taken-up-with-dgca-1658121423881">Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia</a> said on Twitter.
ATF prices have been coming down during the last few weeks after jumping to record levels, primarily due to the Russia-Ukraine war that began on February 24.
On August 1, the price of ATF in Delhi was Rs 1.21 lakh per kilo-litre, which was around 14 per cent lower than last month.
The ministry had imposed lower and upper limits on domestic airfares based on flight durations when services were resumed on May 25, 2020 after a two-month lockdown due to the <a href="https://www.editorji.com/coronavirus">COVID-19 pandemic</a>.

For example, airlines currently cannot charge a passenger less than Rs 2,900 (excluding <a href="https://www.editorji.com/business-news/gaming-and-gambling-same-gst-council-likely-to-slap-28-tax-reports-1656296267507">GST</a>) and more than Rs 8,800 (excluding GST) for domestic flights of less than 40 minutes.
The lower caps were there to protect the financially weaker airlines and the upper caps to protect passengers from high fares.
On Wednesday, the Civil Aviation Ministry stated in an order: "After review of the current status of scheduled domestic operations viz-a-viz passenger demand for air travel...it has been decided to remove the fare bands notified from time to time regarding the airfares with effect from August 31, 2022." The airlines and airport operators must, however, ensure that the guidelines to contain the spread of COVID-19 are strictly adhered to and COVID-appropriate behaviour is strictly enforced by them during travel, it added.
Vistara CEO Vinod Kannan had on June 19 said that he would be happy if the lower and upper limits on airfares were increased but the best solution would be for the airlines to have absolute freedom on airfares.&nbsp;

As third wave has airlines flying into deep-red, private carrier indiGo has asked the government to cut taxes on jetfuel and repair parts. The country's largest domestic airline, IndiGo said that the government needs to reduce indirect taxes on the sector that has resulted in losses and prevented the sector from boosting commerce and employment. 
IndiGo CEO Ronojoy Dutta on Wednesday urged finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman to bring down excise duty on jet fuel from the current 11 to 5%.
“It is an unreasonable proposition to expect that the industry should earn a 21 per cent margin just to pay taxes to the Government. This unreasonable proposition is resulting in an industry that is chronically ill and is unable to live up to its true potential of boosting commerce and employment,” he added.

The country's largest domestic airline, IndiGo&nbsp;said that the government needs to reduce indirect taxes on the sector that has resulted in losses and prevented the sector from boosting commerce and employment.&nbsp;
IndiGo CEO Ronojoy Dutta on Wednesday urged finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman to bring down excise duty on jet fuel from the current 11 to 5%.
Dutta&nbsp;further said it is an unreasonable proposition to expect that the industry should earn a 21 per cent margin just to pay taxes to the Government. This unreasonable proposition is resulting in an industry that is chronically ill.&nbsp;

IndiGo CEO Ronojoy also&nbsp;urged finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman to bring down excise duty on jet fuel from the current 11 to 5%. Fuel makes up 25%-40% of an airline&rsquo;s operating cost.&nbsp;

Tata Sons has reportedly submitted its bid for the distressed national carrier Air India which has a debt of ₹ 43,000 crore. &nbsp;The government is expected to complete the bidding process on Wednesday. Other properties which include Mumbai's Air India building and Delhi's Airlines House will also be part of the deal.
