Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Wednesday. This was the first meeting between the two after Nitish Kumar broke his party's alliance with the RJD and returned to the BJP-led NDA's fold on January 28.&nbsp;
The meeting took place five days before the new Nitish government faces a trust vote in the Bihar assembly on February 12.
Kumar is also expected to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president J P Nadda in the national capital.
Bihar Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, both from the BJP, called on the PM on Monday.
According to JD(U) sources, issues pertaining to Rajya Sabha polls in the state may also be discussed during the CM's meeting with top BJP leaders.
Six Rajya Sabha seats in Bihar are falling vacant, for which elections are scheduled to be held on February 27.
Of the six seats, two are currently with the JD(U), held by former party president Bashishth Narayan Singh and senior leader Aneel Hegde, while two are with the RJD, held by Manoj Kumar Jha and Misa Bharti..
One seat is held by BJP's Sushil Kumar Modi, who was earlier a deputy chief minister, and one with the Congress, held by its state unit president Akhilesh Prasad Singh.&nbsp;

The development comes ahead of the general elections in the country scheduled to be held in 2024.

The Janata Dal (Secular) formally joined the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Friday as Former Karnataka Chief Minister and JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi.
BJP President JP Nadda and Goa CM Pramod Sawant were also present during the meeting.
Former Prime Minister and JD (S) patriarch HD Deve Gowda and his son Kumaraswamy reportedly met BJP President JP Nadda and Amit Shah in the Parliament on Thursday.
There were talks within Karnataka&rsquo;s political circles for the past few months that the JD(S) could ally with the BJP for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The JD(S) had aligned with the Congress in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, however, the parties faced a drubbing as the BJP swept 25 out of the 28 seats in Karnataka and even an independent candidate supported by the BJP won from the Mandya constituency.

The political crisis in Maharashtra played out at a national level on July 18 as the ruling NDA and Opposition parties got into a huddle to check who their friends are.&nbsp;
The recently split NCP had a presence at both meetings. While NCP supremo Sharad Pawar attended the Opposition meet in Bengaluru, his rebel nephew and now Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was seen at the NDA meet in New Delhi along with his loyalist Praful Patel.&nbsp;
The story was not different for the two Shiv Senas. While Uddhav Thackeray and Adtiya Thackeray were present at the Opposition alliance meet, Eknath Shinde - Maharashtra chief minister and the man who triggered the Sena Split - was the one to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the ruling coalition's meeting.&nbsp;

The meeting of the BJP-led coalition is scheduled to be held on a day several opposition parties are set to hold deliberations in Bengaluru to chalk out a joint strategy to take on the BJP unitedly in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The TMC MP added that Subrahmanyam had said, "Those who failed to protect innocent citizens are guilty of adharma. Rama… would have used his bow against the ‘Asura’ rulers of Gujarat.”

Members of both houses of Parliament and state legislature, belonging to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U), converged here on Tuesday to attend a meeting at his official residence, amid speculations of a major political move by the veteran leader, senior party functionaries said.
The meeting is scheduled to commence at 11 AM.
While the outcome will be known once the meeting is over, more than one of the prospective attendees denied the party’s ties with the BJP having worsened to an extent to call for a realignment.
“Our party had held many such meetings of MPs and MLAs in the past. We have been told that the current meeting has been called to discuss organisational matters. Never heard about any major crisis in the NDA," said Ram Nath Thakur, a Rajya Sabha member, low key but known to enjoy proximity to the chief minister by virtue of being the son of late Karpoori Thakur, the latter's political mentor.
Another confidant of Kumar, Leshi Singh, who is an MLA and a minister in his cabinet, said, “I was away for the last four or five days but I have an idea of how things have been. There does not seem to be any major crisis facing the NDA government. It goes without saying, though, that the party will abide by any decision taken by the chief minister”.
Meanwhile, MLAs of the opposition RJD, the largest party in the state assembly, have also been commanded by their leader Tejashwi Yadav to remain present at a meeting which will be held at his mother Rabri Devi’s Circular Road bungalow, a stone’s throw from the CM’s Anney Marg residence.
Chetan Anand, a young RJD MLA who is serving his first term, said, "Rumours of political realignment have been afloat for a couple of years. Let us not make any rash assumptions. Once the party leadership takes any decision, it will be definitely made known to all."

Yashwant Sinha&rsquo;s political career has come full circle, from being a fierce critic of the Congress party and the Left while being in the BJP for over two decades to being a presidential candidate with the support of those very parties.

Yashwant Sinha, the bureaucrat-turned-politician, has been named as the joint Opposition candidate for the President's post that goes to the polls on July 18.
While Sinha's candidature may have united the Opposition, the balance is tilting towards National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) Droupadi Murmu, especially in the backdrop of the recent political developments in Maharashtra.
The Opposition seems to bank on Sinha's 'veteranism' as an asset against the NDA nominee as it attempts to mount an ideological contest against the BJP.
Early life
Born in Patna on November 6, 1937, Sinha was the ninth of 11 siblings. At the age of 23, he joined the Bihar cadre of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). During his 24-year-long stint in Administrative Services, he held multiple posts in the Finance and Commerce Departments. He was First Secretary (Commercial) in the Indian Embassy in Bonn, Germany in the early 1970s.&nbsp;
Political journey
In 1984, Sinha quit his service and joined active politics as a Janata Party member. Two years later, he was appointed the party's all-India general secretary and was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1988. In 1989, Sinha co-founded the Janata Dal and took charge as the party&rsquo;s general secretary. He later joined the BJP and held important portfolios in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government but finance was known to be his forte.&nbsp;
In 2015, the senior politician received Officier de la Legion d'Honneur, the French government's highest civilian award.
An ardent critic of Narendra Modi and his government's policies, Sinha quit the BJP on April 21, 2018.&nbsp;
In 2021, he joined the Trinamool Congress as its vice president and quit last month to contest the presidential election.
Legacy as FM
Sinha was known as the &lsquo;rollback finance minister&rsquo; for rolling back fuel price hikes. His 1998-99 Union Budget was the first to have been presented in the morning, breaking the colonial-era tradition of presenting Union Budgets in the evenings. He is also credited with expanding the highway network across the country and undertaking the Golden Quadrilateral project - the largest highway project in India and the fifth-longest in the world. He made this possible by increasing the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) funds through a petroleum cess. He also de-regularised the petroleum industry.
No love lost between Sinha &amp; BJP
In 2018, Sinha quit the saffron party alleging that the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre was undermining democratic institutions and declared that he would be severing all ties with the BJP and announced his retirement from active politics.
Since then Sinha has been a vocal critic of the Modi government and its policies such as the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the years to follow, &nbsp;Sinha launched a 3,000 km Gandhi Peace March demanding the withdrawal of the CAA. Along with fellow BJP critics &ndash; former Union minister Arun Shourie and Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan &ndash; Sinha filed a joint petition in the Supreme Court seeking a review of its clean chit to the Modi government in the Rafale case. The apex court, however, dismissed all the review petitions.
Sinha&rsquo;s political career has come full circle, from being a fierce critic of the Congress party and the Left while being in the BJP for over two decades to being a presidential candidate with the support of those very parties.

NDA candidate Droupadi Murmu is leading after the first round of votes were counted in the 2022 presidential polls on Thursday. Of the total 748 votes cast by the MPs, Murmu clinched 540 while Opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha got 208. 

If elected, Murmu, the former governor of Jharkhand, will be the first tribal woman to be the President of India, and the second woman to occupy the top constitutional post after Pratibha Patil.&nbsp;

NDA presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu is leading after the first round of votes were counted. Of the total 748 votes cast by MPs, Murmu received 540, while joint Opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha bagged 208 votes.
Going by the support extended by various regional parties, Murmu has a clear edge over Sinha in this election. If elected, Murmu will become the first tribal woman to occupy the top constitutional post in the country.
Voting for the Presidential polls concluded on Monday with over 99 per cent of 4,796 eligible electors.
