Suchir Balaji, a 26-year-old former employee of OpenAI, was found deceased in his San Francisco apartment on November 26th. Balaji, an Indian-origin computer scientist, was a vocal critic of OpenAI's business practices and had publicly accused the company of copyright infringement.
Balaji's death comes amidst a wave of lawsuits against OpenAI from authors, programmers, and journalists who claim the company illegally used their copyrighted work to train ChatGPT, its popular AI chatbot.&nbsp;
In a recent interview with the New York Times, Balaji expressed concerns about the potential harm caused by OpenAI's technology to businesses and the internet ecosystem. He had resigned from OpenAI, stating that he could no longer contribute to technologies he believed were more detrimental than beneficial to society.

Sam Altman led OpenAI made multiple announcements at the Spring Update Event which was livestreamed on May 13. They announced the launch of OpenAI&rsquo;s latest generative model building on the existing capabilities of ChatGPT, titled GPT-4o. This model enhances the capabilities of its predecessors by integrating voice and vision functionalities, making it a truly multimodal system.&nbsp;

The latest iteration, GPT-4o, where 'o' stands for "omni," is designed to work seamlessly across text, vision, and audio, thereby enhancing user interaction with machines. OpenAI's CTO, Mira Murati, emphasized the significance of GPT-4o in making technological interactions more natural and intuitive.&nbsp;

GPT-4o significantly upgrades the ChatGPT experience by incorporating voice functionality that allows real-time interaction. Users can now interrupt ChatGPT while it responds, and the model is capable of detecting emotional nuances in the user's voice. This version also introduces advanced vision capabilities, enabling ChatGPT to provide immediate answers related to visual inputs such as photographs or on-screen content.&nbsp;

With improvements in over 50 languages, GPT-4o also becomes more accessible to a global audience. The live demo of GPT-4o showcased its ability to handle live speech translation and emotional engagement through its enhanced voice capabilities. The voice functionality not only supports speech-to-text and text-to-speech conversions but also allows for nuanced emotional interactions, making the ChatGPT experience much more dynamic and responsive.&nbsp;

OpenAI has committed to making its GPT-4o model accessible to everyone, including users of its free version of ChatGPT, without requiring a sign-up. This move is part of OpenAI's broader mission to democratize access to advanced AI tools, ensuring that more individuals and businesses can benefit from this technology. GPT-4o&rsquo;s capabilities, including its text and image functionalities, are being rolled out starting today. The model is now available in the free tier and to Plus users, with Plus users enjoying up to five times higher message limits.&nbsp;
The rollout of GPT-4o will occur iteratively, with extended red team access commencing today, ensuring robust testing and feedback incorporation. In the near term, OpenAI plans to launch a new version of Voice Mode with GPT-4o in alpha within ChatGPT Plus in the coming weeks. &nbsp;
Developers have also been granted access to GPT-4o in the API as a text and vision model.&nbsp;
Notably, GPT-4o is twice as fast, costs half as much, and supports five times higher rate limits compared to its predecessor, GPT-4 Turbo. &nbsp;
Furthermore, OpenAI intends to extend support for GPT-4o's new audio and video capabilities to a select group of trusted partners in the API, also in the forthcoming weeks.

OpenAI spends about $700,000 everyday just to run ChatGPT, said a report published in Analytics India Magazine. The report also mentioned that Microsoft and other investors are using their own money to cover the expenses and that the companies would cut down the investment if Sam Altman's company doesn't turn profitable soon.&nbsp;
&ldquo;Microsoft&rsquo;s $10 billion investment in OpenAI is possibly keeping the company afloat at the moment. But on the other hand, OpenAI projected an annual revenue of $200 million in 2023, and expects to reach $1 billion in 2024, which seems to be a long shot since the losses are only mounting,&rdquo;the report said, and noted that in May this year, OpenAI&rsquo;s losses doubled to $540 million ever since it started developing ChatGPT.&nbsp;

The report has also mentioned that the company may go bankrupt by the end of 2024. The number of users visiting the platform has also reduced considerably. As per SimilarWeb&rsquo;s data after hitting a record high of 1.9 billion user visits in May this year, the generative AI chatbot witnessed 1.7 billion user visits in June and only 1.5 billion in July.&nbsp;
Some feel that the drop in users is due to API cannibalisation wherein most companies are prohibiting employees from using the generative AI chatbot for work, but are allowing them to use the API to leverage the large language model (LLM) in other workflows. However, the report argued that there is a rise in open source LLM models. Meta's Llama2 which is in partnership with Microsoft is allowing people to use the model for commercial purposes.
As per the report, another challenge that Sam Altman is facing is the shortage of Graphics Processing Unit. Altman earlier had said that the lack of GPUs on the market affected the company's capacity to improve and develop new models. Meanwhile, Elon Musk is also building a rival chat bot 'TruthGPT' which poses a threat to ChatGPT

As there is currently no official app for ChatGPT, it is important to be careful when downloading apps claiming to be based on the chatbot.

Researchers from <a href="https://research.checkpoint.com/2023/opwnai-cybercriminals-starting-to-use-chatgpt/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Check Point Research</a> have found that hackers are using OpenAI's tool, ChatGPT, to develop malicious applications.
Examples of these applications include an information stealer, a simple Java-based malware, a malicious encryption tool, and a dark web marketplace to facilitate fraud activity.&nbsp;
The research agency discovered a topic titled "ChatGPT &ndash; Benefits of Malware" in a well-known underground hacker site, in which the publisher discussed his experience with ChatGPT. The publisher had created a Python-based information stealer on the platform.
It is still early to tell if this tool will become a favourite among dark web participants, but it is slowly gaining momentum and may aid both amateur and professional hackers.

After rumours of Microsoft&rsquo;s potential $10 billion investment in Open AI, a new <a href="https://www.theinformation.com/articles/ghost-writer-microsoft-looks-to-add-openais-chatbot-technology-to-word-email" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">report</a> now suggests that Microsoft is exploring the possibility of incorporating Open AI's language AI tech into its services like Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.&nbsp;
According to the source, Microsoft has already integrated a variation of Open AI's text-generating GPT model into the autocomplete feature of Word. It is now researching to integrate it further into the other applications.&nbsp;
The company is also using Open AI's GPT tech to enhance search results in Outlook, enabling users to find the desired information without using keywords in the emails.&nbsp;
