Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Kuwait on Saturday on a two-day trip to further strengthen "multifaceted" ties between India and the Gulf nation.

During the visit, Modi will hold discussions with the leadership of Kuwait and will also interact with the Indian community.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a two-day visit to Kuwait from Saturday in what will be the first trip to the Gulf nation by an Indian prime minister in 43 years.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), announcing the visit, said it will provide an opportunity to further strengthen the "multifaceted" ties between India and Kuwait.
Modi is paying the visit at the invitation of Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, it said.
During the visit, Modi will hold discussions with the leadership of Kuwait and will also interact with the Indian community.
"India and Kuwait share traditionally close and friendly relations which are rooted in history and have been underpinned by economic and strong people to people linkages," the MEA said in a statement.
The last Indian prime minister to visit Kuwait was Indira Gandhi in 1981.
India is among the top trading partners of Kuwait. The Indian community is the largest expatriate community in Kuwait.
"The visit will provide an opportunity to further strengthen the multifaceted ties between India and Kuwait," the MEA added.
Kuwait is among India's top trading partners, with bilateral trade valued at USD 10.47 billion in the financial year 2023-24.
Kuwait is India's sixth largest crude supplier, meeting 3 percent of the country's energy needs.
Indian exports to Kuwait reached USD 2 billion for the first time, while investments by the Kuwait Investment Authority in India exceed USD 10 billion.
India and Kuwait have enjoyed traditionally friendly relations, with links dating back to pre-oil Kuwait when maritime trade with India was the backbone of its economy.
Kuwait's economy revolved around its fine harbour and maritime activities which included ship building, pearl diving, fishing and voyages to India on wooden dhows carrying dates, Arabian horses and pearls that were traded for wood, cereals, clothes and spices, according to people tracking the ties between the two nations.
The Indian Rupee remained legal tender in Kuwait until 1961, a symbol of the enduring economic and cultural ties.
Diplomatic relations between the two countries were formally established in 1961, with India initially represented by a trade commissioner.
Emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Jabar Al Sabah visited India on a private visit in July 2017.
The last high-level visit from either side was that of the prime minister of Kuwait to India in 2013.

Delhi Police has imposed prohibitory orders and declared the national capital no-flying zone as Narendra Modi will take oath as the prime minister for third term on June 9, according to an order issued by the Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora on Friday.
The prohibitory orders will remain imposed for two days, June 9 and 10, it said.
"It has been reported that certain criminal, anti-social elements or terrorists inimical to India may pose a threat to the safety of the general public, dignitaries and vital installations," Arora said in the order.
He further said, "In exercise of the power conferred upon me by section 144 of the CrPC prohibiting flying of sub-conventional aerial platforms like para gliders, para-motors, hang gliders, UAVs, UASs, microlight aircraft, remotely piloted aircraft, hot air balloons, small size powered aircraft, quadcopters or even by para jumping from aircraft etc over Delhi during the swearing-in ceremony and doing shall be punishable u/s 188 of the Indian Penal Code." As the notice cannot be served individually on all concerned, the order is, hereby, passed exparte, it said.
This restrictions will come into force on June 9 and stay till June 10, the order said.

Fitch on India's economy&nbsp;
"It appears the BJP-led NDA is likely to form the next government, returning Prime Minister Modi for a third term, but with a weakened majority that could pose challenges for the more ambitious elements of the government's reform agenda," Fitch said.
As the BJP fell short of an outright majority and will need to rely more heavily on its coalition partners, "passing contentious reforms could prove more difficult, particularly around land and labour, which have recently been flagged as priorities by the BJP to boost India's manufacturing competitiveness," it said.
Fitch however expected policy continuity to persist despite a slimmer majority. It expected the government to retain its focus on capex push, ease of doing business measures, and gradual fiscal consolidation.
"We expect India's strong medium-term growth outlook to remain intact, underpinned by the government capex drive and improved corporate and bank balance sheets. But upsides to medium-term growth prospects are likely to be more modest if reforms prove more challenging to advance," it added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared personal assets worth Rs 3.02 crore, in his nomination filing for the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat. As per the affidavit submitted on May 14, PM Modi reported a total of Rs 52,920 in cash as of March 31, 2024. As per the affidavit he has no investment in bonds, debentures, shares, or mutual funds.&nbsp;

In the National Savings certificate, Modi has declared Rs 9.13 lakh and four gold rings weighing 45 grams worth Rs 2.68 lakh. He did not report owning any immovable property. As income tax in the financial year 2022-23, Prime Minister declared that Rs 3.33 lakh was deducted. His total income, according to his income tax return (ITR) for the financial year 2022-23, was Rs 23.56 lakh.
The two source of income as declared in the affidavit includes salary from the Prime Minister&rsquo;s Office and interest income.
Prime Minister Modi filed his Lok Sabha nomination papers from Varanasi on Tuesday. The voting will be conducted in the last phase on June 1.

'Shehzada insulted Maharajas but...': PM Modi attack Rahul during Karnataka Lok Sabha campaign

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of insulting India's Rajas and Maharajas, but remaining silent on the atrocities committed by Nawabs, Nizams, Sultans and Badshahs for the sake of appeasement politics.
He also continued his attack against the Congress on the "inheritance tax" issue and targeted the party's government in Karnataka on law and order issue.
The BJP is working on increasing the assets of the people, but Congress' shahzada (Rahul Gandhi) and his sister (Priyanka Gandhi Vadra), both are announcing that if they come to power, they will do the 'X-ray' of the country, Modi said.
"They will x-ray your property, bank lockers, lands, vehicles, also 'Streedhan' and ornaments of women, gold, the Mangalsutra. These people will raid every house and capture your assets. After capturing they are talking about redistributing it, they want it to give it to their loved vote bank...will you allow this loot to happen?" he asked.
"I want to alert Congress," Modi said, asserting that "leave this intention. Until Modi is alive, I will not allow it... " Addressing a mega public meeting here, he said, "Congress has ensured the writings of our history and our freedom struggle with an eye on appeasement and vote bank. Even today, the Congress' shehzada (prince) is carrying forward that sin. You might have heard Congress' shehzada's recent statement -- he says Bharath's Rajas and Maharajas were atyachari (oppressive)." "He (Gandhi) has accused them (Rajas and Maharajas) of usurping the lands and properties of people and poor...Congress' shehzada has insulted great personalities like Chatrapati Shivajji Maharaj and Kittur Rani Channamma, whose administration and patriotism inspires us even today," the prime minister said.
Recalling the contribution of the erstwhile Mysuru royal family for which they are respected across the country even today, he said: "the Congress' shehzada's statements were intentional, aimed at vote bank politics and appeasement." "Shahzada spoke ill about Raja, Maharajas, but the shahzada's mouth was locked regarding the 'atyachar' that Nawabs, Nizams, Sultans and Badshahs committed in India's history. His mouth was shut on them, but on Raja, Maharajas he speaks ill and insults them," he said.
Noting that Gandhi cannot remember Mughal emperor Aurangzeb's oppressions, Modi said, "he (Aurangzeb) impured a number of our temples and destroyed them. Congress is happily making alliances with parties that praise Aurangzeb...they don't remember people who destroyed our religious places, indulged in killing, killing of cows. They don't remember the Nawab, who played a role in the partition of India." He further recalled the contributions of the Raja of Banaras in setting up Banaras Hindu University, and Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar in the reconstruction of temples.
"It was the Maharaja of Baroda who had identified the talent of Ambedkar...the Congress's shehzade doesn't remember the contributions of Rajas and Maharajas. For vote bank they show the guts of speaking against Rajas and Maharajas, but don't have strength to speak against Nawabs, sultans and Badshahs," he said adding that Congress' "appeasement mindset" has come out in the open before the country, and the same reflects in their manifesto.
Veteran BJP leader B S Yediyurappa, party's candidate from Belgaum (Belagavi) and former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar and Chikkodi candidate Annasaheb Shankar Jolle, were among those present.
Since the time Congress came to power in Karnataka, law and order situation in the entire state has worsened, Modi alleged, recalling the atrocity against an adivasi woman in Belagavi and killing of a Jain monk in Chikkodi. These shameful incidents have degraded Karnataka's pride.
Citing the recent murder of a Hubballi student, Neha Hiremath, at her college premises that created "sensation" in the country, he said, the family sought action, but Congress government gave priority to appeasement.
"For them, the lives of daughters like Neha have no value, they think only about their vote bank." Even when there was a bomb blast in a Bengaluru's cafe, the Congress government did not take it seriously initially; they even termed it a cylinder blast initially. "Why are you -- Congress -- lying to the people of the country, if you can't, leave and go home," Modi said.
The Congress for the sake of votes is taking support of banned PFI -- the anti-national organisation that supported terrorism. "To win one seat in Wayanad, are you surrendering to them? BJP has banned PFI and has put its leaders behind bars." he said.
Modi said Congress has come up with a "dangerous" formula of "inheritance tax", according to which the party, in the event of coming to power, will tax what one saves for his children, either money or property.
"They (Congress) say, you cannot give what you save for your children. If you have to give, you have to pay 55 per cent tax on it...to distribute to its vote bank they want to capture your assets," he alleged.

&ldquo;Congress&rsquo;s shehzada is facing trouble in Wayanad. Shehzada and his gang are awaiting voting in Wayanad and after that they will announce a safe seat for him. The Kerala CM has slammed him in a language which even I do not use. The manner in which he has run away from Amethi, he will quit Wayanad as well,&rdquo; said PM Modi.&nbsp; This was Modi&rsquo;s second rally of the day in the state. Before that, he addressed a public meeting at the neighbouring Nanded constituency. Both seats go to polls in the second phase on April 26.

Congress and its friends dislike every heritage of the country, he claimed.
Modi also launched a broadside at the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi in the state. He said the Congress and the &ldquo;fake Shiv Sena&rdquo;, a reference to Shiv Sena (UBT), were busy decorating Yakub Memon&rsquo;s grave. Memon, a convict in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, was hanged in 2015.

Modi said Parbhani is the land that seeks the inspiration of Bal Thackeray, the late Shiv Sena founder, and asked the crowd whether the Razakar mentality should have any place there.
A large part of the Marathwada region was under the Nizam rule and subjected to attacks by the Razakar militia.
Modi also accused the opposition of blocking schemes like &lsquo;Jal Yukta Shivar&rsquo; initiated by the then Devendra Fadnavis-led NDA government and Marathwada water-grid programme between 2014 and 2019.
He urged people to be wary of the &ldquo;INDI alliance in realising the goal of &lsquo;Viksit Bharat&rsquo; and 'Viksit Maharashtra&rsquo;&rdquo;.
He said the 2024 Lok Sabha polls were all about making India the third-largest economy in the world.
In the last term of his government, Modi said, people saw the success of Chandrayaan (Moon mission) and in the next term, 140 crore Indians will witness Gaganyaan's (ISRO's manned mission) success.
This is the first election where people are talking about the success of &lsquo;Atmanirbhar Bharat&rsquo;, from anti-coronavirus vaccine to weapons for the armed forces, he said.
&ldquo;In only ten years, the country has traversed a long journey of development,&rdquo; Modi said.
The PM said when he first contested the Lok Sabha polls in 2014, the talk in the country was about the fear of terror attacks and blasts and the pain of the deaths of soldiers. &ldquo;However, the talk was about surgical strikes in the next five years in 2019,&rdquo; he said.
Modi said he had lived a life of poverty, understood the pains of the poor and stressed that no poor should go through what he had experienced.
It is &ldquo;Modi's guarantee&rdquo; that those who have missed out on a house or a gas or tap water connection will get one in his third term, he said, adding that it is &ldquo;Modi&rsquo;s guarantee that in the next five years, three crore new houses would be built for the poor&rdquo;.
In the Parbhani constituency, Jankar is pitted against sitting MP Sanjay Jadhav of the Shiv Sena (UBT).
Of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in the state, five went to polls in the first phase on Friday. Polling in the remaining seats will be held in four phases between April 26 and May 20.

PM Modi's tour is expected to end at RS Puram, which was one of the locations where the 1998 serial blasts had taken place.
India Today has reported that no political parties or groups have been given permission for roadshows given the communally sensitive nature of Coimbatore.
The officials also said that public exams are scheduled for March 18 and 19, and there are multiple schools located along the proposed route for the roadshow.&nbsp;
Notably, this might have been the first roadshow of PM Modi in Coimbatore. During his visit to Coimbatore in the run-up to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he addressed only a public meeting at Codissia grounds.&nbsp;
During his recent visit to Tirupur too, he did not hold roadshows. &nbsp;The demand for a roadshow in Coimbatore is believed to have stemmed from the tremendous response to his roadshows in Srirangam and Chennai.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday hit out at the Congress, saying that everyone is leaving the party as it is trapped in the vicious circle of nepotism and dynastic politics.
He said the Congress' sole agenda is to oppose Modi.
The prime minister was virtually addressing an event, 'Viksit Bharat, Viksit Rajasthan', in Jaipur. He also laid the foundation stones of projects worth about Rs 17,000 crore and inaugurated various development works.
"The Congress has only one agenda, anti-Modi. It spreads such things against Modi which divide society. This is what happens to a party when it gets trapped in the vicious circle of nepotism and dynastic politics. Today everyone is leaving the Congress and only one family is seen there," Modi said.
A big problem with the Congress is that it lacks the farsightedness to frame positive policies. Neither can the Congress foresee the future nor does it have any road map for it, he said.
To make India a developed country, the prime minister said, the government is strengthening four sections -- the youth, women, farmers and the poor.
"For us, these are the four biggest castes," he said.
On the 'Viksit Bharat' campaign, Modi said it is not just words or a sentiment.
"This is a campaign to enrich the life of every family, this is a campaign to eradicate poverty, this is a campaign to create good employment for the youth and this is a campaign to create modern facilities in the country," he said.&nbsp;

A prayer meeting was held at Congress' Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra campsite in Araria in Bihar early in the morning to remember Mahatma Gandhi on the day he was assassinated by Nathuram Godse in 1948.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh shared pictures from the prayer meeting on X and wrote, "Our battle against the ideologies that resisted and rejected him in his lifetime, and now attempt to appropriate him ever so frequently, continues."
He also said, "Those who glorify Godse should not and will not be allowed to define the idea of India."&nbsp;
Rahul Gandhi said that on this very day, the ideology of hatred and violence had snatched away the revered Bapu from the country. "And, today the same thinking wants to snatch away his principles and ideals from us," he said.
"But in this storm of hatred, the flame of truth and harmony must not be extinguished," the Congress leader said and added that this will be the true tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.
