The move was taken after it was found that a toxic substance was being used for its making. However, there is a catch and some sellers will be able to sell it. Read on to know more!
<h3>Puducherry bans sale of cotton candy</h3>
According to a report by India Today, an order issued by Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Friday stated that the food safety officials tested and found the presence of a harmful chemical &lsquo;Rhodamine-B&rsquo; in cotton candy that was being sold in the beach town. Following this revelation, the government has announced that cotton candy will be banned.&nbsp;
"Those who have not got the quality certificate can immediately approach the food safety department and get it. After that, they can start selling cotton candy. The faster they get the food safety certification, the faster they can start their business. Until then, the sale of cotton candy is banned," the order read.
Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan spoke about the incident and said, "It has been found that a toxic substance named &lsquo;Rhodamine B&rsquo; is being used in the cotton candies that are consumed by children and others in Puducherry. We have directed officials to inspect shops that are selling cotton candies, and they will be seized if the presence of this toxic substance is found in the cotton candies."

Rhodamine B, often abbreviated as RhB, is a chemical compound that functions as a dye in the textile industry. Rhodamine B is not approved for use as a food additive or coloring agent by food regulatory authorities. It is a water-soluble fluorescent dye, and it is known for its bright pink colouration when used in various applications.
Rhodamine B poses a risk to human health as it is toxic when ingested, causing oxidative stress on cells and tissues. When consumed, it can cause liver damage, tumors, and an increased risk of developing cancer.

The boy's neighbours congratulated him and presented him shawls. The Puducherry-Pathukannu route has been in a bad condition for the last seven years and nothing done to restore the road, said a resident of the village after meeting the boy.

Kiran Bedi thanked the government for a "life time experience" as the Lieutenant-Governor of Puducherry, after she was removed from the top post on Tuesday night. Bedi's removal came amid a crisis in the ruling Congress government in the union territory. The Congress government has slipped into a minority after four Congress leaders resigned from the Assembly since last month. "Thank all those who were a part my journey as Lt Governor -The People of Puducherry and all the Public officials," the former IPS officer Bedi tweeted on Wednesday morning, along with a statement.

The Congress government has slipped into a minority after four Congress leaders resigned from the Assembly since last month.
"Thank all those who were a part my journey as Lt Governor - The People of Puducherry and all the Public officials," the former IPS officer Bedi tweeted on Wednesday morning, along with a statement.
Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan has been asked to discharge functions of the Lieutenant-Governor of Puducherry, in addition to her own duties, until a new appointment is made.

Bedi's&nbsp;removal comes just ahead of the assembly polls and nearly a week after Chief Minister V Narayansamy&nbsp;met President Ramnath&nbsp;Kovind&nbsp;and&nbsp;urged him recall her. He alleged that Bedi&nbsp;is impeding schemes introduced by his govt and running a 'tughlaq&nbsp;darbar'.
The former top cop took over as the&nbsp;Lieutenant-Governor of Puducherry&nbsp;in 2016 and her tenure has been fraught with disagreements and face-offs with the Chief Minister.&nbsp;

Of the 30 elected MLAs in the assembly, Congress had 15 members and, along with the DMK's three and one independent member, was just past the majority mark of 16.

The Health Ministry on Friday said that India has one of the lowest Covid-19 deaths per million population in the world. Since October 4, less than 1000 fatalities have been reported daily which was at 1.52 percent since March 22. According to reports, 22 States and Union Territories have demonstrated better performance as compared to the national average. On the other hand, the 13 State and UTs where the death per million population was more than the national average included&nbsp;Puducherry, Maharashtra, Goa, Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Punjab. The total number of recoveries have surged to 64,53,779 and exceeded active cases of COVID-19 by 56,49,251.
