Amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state, Commissionerate Police (CP) Amritsar has successfully averted a possible grenade attack on a police establishment in Batala area with the arrest of 10 persons including four key operatives of cross-border terror module being operated by Pak-based Harvinder Rinda and foreign-based Happy Passian, Jeevan Fauji and Jashanpreet Singh alias Lal, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on Friday.
The four arrested key operatives have been identified as Arjanpreet Singh of Awan Ramdas in Amritsar, Lovepreet Singh alias Love of Perhewal in Amritsar, Basant Singh and Amanpreet Singh alias Aman, both residents of Baba Bakala Sahib in Amritsar. While, the six handlers, who were involved in providing logistic support, have been identified as Barinderpal Singh alias Mani &nbsp;and Rajbir Singh alias Raju, both residents of Katle in Amritsar; Vishvas Masih alias Bhabbo of Bhaganpura in Amritsar; Dilpreet Singh alias Manna, Harjot Kumar alias Mithu and Joyal Masih alias Rohan alias Nony, trio residents of Dera Baba Nanak in Batala.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that police teams have also recovered three pistols&mdash; including two .30 bore and one .32 bore, one hand grenade and one drone from their possession. Further investigations are ongoing to establish forward and backward linkages in this case, he added.
Sharing more details, CP Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that acting on credible inputs about the module&rsquo;s activities, Amritsar Commissionerate has launched an intel-based operation and arrested all the accused persons from different areas including Ramdas area of Amritsar Rural, Batala and Amritsar City. Recoveries were effected from village Khana Chamara in Dera Baba Nanak, Village Awaan in Ramdas and Vallah area of Amritsar city, he added.
The CP said that with arrest of accused persons Basant Singh and Amanpreet Singh alias Aman, Amristar Commissionerate Police has also solved the case of an attack on a police officer&rsquo;s residence in Batala, which took place on November 28, 2024.&nbsp;
He said that police teams have also identified another main operative of this module and police teams are on manhunt to apprehend him.
A case FIR No. 191 dated 03.12.2024 has been registered under sections 111(1), 111(2), 111(3), 111(4), 249 and 253 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), sections 13, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and sections 25(6) and 25(7) of the Arms Act at Police Station Cantonment, Amritsar.

In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing decisive war against drugs, Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has apprehended three drug smugglers and recovered 5 kg heroin and Rs 4.45 lakh drug money from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on Thursday.
Those arrested have been identified as Husanpreet Singh, a resident of Prime City at Chheharta in Amritsar, Karandeep Singha alias Manna and Maninder Singh, both residents of Attari Mandi in Amritsar. Apart from recovering heroin and drug money, Police teams have also impounded their Honda Activa (PB02DK8780) and Hero Deluxe HF (PB02EP5854), which they were riding.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that team of CI Amritsar has received a tip-off that accused Karandeep Singh and Maninder Singh are indulged in the smuggling of heroin and recently retrieved a huge consignment of heroin dropped with the help of drones by Pakistan smugglers and are going to supply it further to drug smuggler Husanpreet Singh.
The tip further revealed that both the accused persons are coming at the Amritsar-Attari Road near Punjabi Bagh Palace on a white Honda Activa to deliver this drug consignment to drug smuggler Husanpreet Singh, who is also reaching there on his black Motorcycle Hero Deluxe HF, he said.
The DGP said that acting swiftly, teams from CI Amritsar laid a special naka near Punjabi Bagh Resort at Attari Road and arrested all the accused persons after recovering heroin consignment and drug money from their possession. Further investigations are to establish forward and backward linkages in this case and identify Pak-based drug smugglers, he added.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 67 dated 04.12.2024 has been registered under section 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Amritsar. Due to the recovery of drug money in this case from the accused, the severity of the offence in this FIR has been enhanced by incorporating section 27-A of the NDPS Act.

Disclosing this, State Election Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhuri said that Municipal elections would be held for 5 Municipal Corporations, 44 Municipal Councils/Nagar Panchayats, and Bye-elections for 43 wards of Municipal Councils, as well as for 6 Wards in other Municipal Corporations. &nbsp;There are total 1609 polling locations and 3717 polling booths; out of these, 344 are declared as hypersensitive and 665 as sensitive polling locations.
He further informed that adequate police force would be deployed in all the polling locations and booths as per the security norms. &nbsp;In all, about 20,486 Police personnel of Punjab Police and Home Guard Jawans would be deployed for these elections. &nbsp;500 patrolling parties and 283 Striking Reserves (DGP Punjab, Range &amp; District Headquarter, Sub-division GO and Police Station) would be deployed to secure the area, round the clock and for taking prompt action in case of any emergency. &nbsp;All Sub-Division GOs would supervise their area of jurisdiction to ensure smooth conduct of these elections and to avoid any untoward incident, he added.
In addition to above, there would be 74 Second Line of Defence Nakas, 87 Interstate Nakas and 257 Inter District/Intra District Nakas all over the stateround the clock, to check the movement of illicit liquor, cash, drugs and anti-social elements.
He further highlighted that Arpit Shukla, IPS, Special Director General of Police, Law &amp; Order, Punjab has been appointed to supervise all the security and law &amp; Order related arrangements for these elections. &nbsp;State Election Commissioner desired that the Commissioners of Police and Senior Superintendents of Police be detailed to ensure maintenance of law and order and take steps to keep tabs on and catch hold of notorious persons, trouble-makers, boot-leggers, bail/parole jumpers, proclaimed offenders and absconders, etc. on day to day basis.
Furthermore, he said that Fool proof security arrangements in all storage/counting centers in the state of Punjab would be made to secure in and around premises of building, where counting of votes will be done. It was decided to ensure strict vigil and carry out checking of vehicles during the 3 days before the date of poll to check the entry of undesirable elements, and to prevent the smuggling or distribution of liquor or drugs.
Raj Kamal Chaudhuri added that District Magistrates to take steps and initiate all preventive measures including issue of prohibitory orders to ensure that voters are not intimidated or obstructed from exercising their right to vote.

Those arrested have been identified as Harpreet Singh alias Happy Mattu of Rayya and Rahul Masih of village Chawinda Devi in Amritsar.
DGP Yadav said preliminary investigations have revealed that the smugglers had procured four large arms consignments from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh in the last six months.
Police have identified two more important members of this module, he said.
Investigation is on and efforts are on to nab them, he said.
Sharing operation details, Assistant Inspector General Navjot Singh Mahal said acting swiftly on intel-based inputs, police teams in a joint operation with the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), SAS Nagar arrested the accused near Railway Station Jalandhar Cantonment.&nbsp;

Additionally, it had domestic networks in two states, Jammu and Kashmir and Gujarat.
It further said that an illegal amount of ₹21 lakhs, along with a cash counting machine and three expensive cars were confiscated from the smugglers

Senior IPS officer Gurinder Singh Dhillon on Wednesday said that he has opted for voluntary retirement after putting 34 years in service.
Though speculation was rife that he may foray into politics, Dhillon told PTI that he has not thought of joining politics yet.
"I have not thought of anything like that or discussed it yet," he said when asked whether he will join politics.
Dhillon was currently serving as the Additional Director General of Police (law and order) in the Punjab Police.
"I have taken VRS from my Police service. I am feeling uncaged. let's see where wind of destiny pollinates me," he wrote in a post on X earlier.
Dhillon, a 1997-batch IPS officer, started his career as the deputy superintendent of police in Jalandhar. He served at various positions in intelligence, anti-drug special task force, bureau of investigation and other wings.
Dhillon hails from Mulianwal village in Gurdaspur district and is presently settled in Patiala.&nbsp;

Neeraj Thathai alias Neeraj Arora was accused of collecting money from people in lieu of giving them residential or commercial plots.
Police said Arora had been absconding for the last 8-9 years and had been declared a proclaimed offender.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gursharan Singh Sandhu said the accused has 108 FIRs registered against him in 21 districts for allegedly defrauding people by promising money or plots to people in the state.
Of total 108 FIRs, 47 were registered in Fazilka, eight in Ferozepur, six each in Patiala and Fatehgarh Sahib, five each in Rupnagar, Mohali and SAS Nagar; four each in Faridkot, Sri Muktsar Sahib and Jalandhar Commissionerate.
Police said Arora, who was arrested by the Fazilka Police in February 2016, had jumped bail and was declared a proclaimed offender in February 2017.
The Enforcement Directorate has also registered cases and attached his properties, while many writ petitions are pending in the Punjab and Haryana High Court against him, said the police.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Ranjit Singh Dhillon said the accused was using fake IDs to evade his arrest.

In view of the coming Lok Sabha polls, Special Director General of Police Arpit Shukla on Thursday chalked out a strategy with the Border Security Force (BSF) to further strengthen the second line of defence and break the supply chain of drugs from across the border.
He held a joint coordination meeting with BSF Inspector General (Punjab Frontier) Atul Fulzele and senior officers of CRPF, ITBP, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and other central agencies to review security arrangements in the state's border areas and discuss matters pertaining to the parliamentary elections 2024, according to a statement.
Giving a call for greater synergy and teamwork between the BSF and Punjab Police, Shukla exhorted both forces to work as one team to ensure free and fair elections in the state.
He said being positioned at the first line of defence, the BSF needs to be more alert to prevent smuggling and infiltration bids by militants, terrorists or smugglers, the statement said.
He also ordered to increase the number of police personnel deployed on night patrolling along the International border, it added.
The Special DGP advised the BSF to use drone detection technology to counter the suspicious drone operations at Punjab borders, which have over time emerged as the modus operandi to smuggle drugs from across the Indo-Pak border, according to the statement.
He also directed all the district police chiefs of border districts to conduct regular meetings with village level defence committee (VLDC) members and sensitise field staff to keep a strict vigil on the movement of drones.

Director General of Police, Punjab Gaurav Yadav said on Thursday they have averted possible target killings with the arrest of 2 members of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI)-backed terror module.
DGP further said that the module was operated by USA based Harpreet Singh alias Happy Passian, a close aide of Pakistan based terrorist Harwinder Singh alias Rinda.
Sharing the information, DGP Yadav said in a post on X, "In an intelligence-based operation, Punjab Police averts possible target killings with the arrest of 2 members of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI)-backed terror module". Two pistols along with 4 magazines and 30 live cartridges were also recovered, as per the official. Following their arrest, a First Information Report has been registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and Arms Act at State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar, he said.

Investigations revealed that Kumar had taken the bribe, following which a case was registered, the spokesperson said.

A Vigilance Bureau spokesperson said Kumar was arrested on a complaint lodged by Amanchain Singh, a resident of Amritsar's New Udham Singh Nagar.
The complainant alleged that Kumar took Rs 6 lakh from him in exchange for getting him and his four relatives declared innocent during the inquiry in a murder case registered at Division-B police station, the official added.
Investigations revealed that Kumar had taken the bribe, following which a case was registered, the spokesperson said.

The CASO named "Ops Eagle-III" was conducted from 12 noon to 3 pm simultaneously in all 28 police districts and 500 police teams, involving over 4,000 police personnel, frisked people arriving and departing at railway stations and bus terminuses, they said.
During the operation conducted at 134 bus stands and 181 railway stations, 917 suspicious persons were rounded up for questioning, 24 criminal elements were arrested and 21 FIRs were lodged, said Special Director General of Police (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla.

Gill used to display weapons in pictures and videos on social media without having an arms licence. An FIR against him has been registered under IPC Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), the DSP added.
Officials said their investigation has revealed that Gill was also involved in the Ajnala incident and Ajnala police will separately take action against him.

As radical preacher Amritpal Singh remains elusive on the fourth day, a video of the Khalistani leader has surfaced in which he is seen in the front seat of a vehicle at a toll plaza. Singh is wanted by Punjab Police by the Punjab police which has even launched a massive manhunt to nab the separatist leader.&nbsp;
According to the NDTV report, the footage is from Saturday, the day police launched a crackdown against Amritpal Singh. He was last seen escaping in a Mercedes SUV.&nbsp;

The vehicle used by 'Waris Punjab De' chief Amritpal Singh for his escape was seized by Punjab Police on Sunday, along with several other vehicles and ammunition.
The police said that seven aides of Amritpal Singh have been arrested, and efforts are underway to nab the pro-Khalistan leader as well.&nbsp;
SSP Jalandhar Rural, Swarndeep Singh said that the seized vehicle was found abandoned.
"One car used in Amritpal Singh's convoy has been seized. One Kirpan and a .315 bore weapon with 57 live cartridges have also been recovered from it. The car was abandoned after use," he said. He also said that those spreading rumours will be dealt with strictly.&nbsp;
"The law and order situation is normal in Jalandhar and the state. The police are committed to the safety of the public. We will take strict action against those who take law and order into their hands. Those found spreading rumours will be dealt with strictly," the SSP added.
SSP Rural Amritsar, Satinder Singh confirmed that the actions have been taken in connection with Ajnala FIR.

Amripal's cavalcade was reportedly intercepted by police in Mehatpur village in Jalandhar district on Saturday. Though he managed to escape, six of his supporters were learnt to have been detained.
Some supporters of 'Waris Punjab De' chief shared some videos on social media claiming that policemen were chasing them.
A video also showed Amritpal sitting in a vehicle and one of his aides could be heard saying policemen were after 'Bhai saab' (Amritpal).
Another supporter in a field shared a video in which he was claiming that policemen were after him.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Police asked people to maintain peace and harmony. "Request all citizens to maintain peace &amp; harmony. Punjab Police is working to maintain Law &amp; Order. Request citizens not to panic or spread fake news or hate speech," it said in a tweet.
Last month, Amritpal and his supporters, some of them brandishing swords and guns, broke through barricades and barged into the Ajnala Police Station on the outskirts of the Amritsar city, and clashed with police for the release of one of Amritpal's aide.
During the incident, six policemen including a Superintendent of Police rank officer had suffered injuries.&nbsp;
