The woman has filed a fresh complaint at the Sandeshkhali police station saying that she has been facing threats and social ostracism ever since she decided to drop her false complaint.

One of the three women from Sandeshkhali who had accused local TMC leaders of rape withdrew her complaint.
According to the Times of India newspaper, the woman on May 8 claimed that she faced no such assault and that local BJP leaders forced her to sign a blank paper, which was to be a false complaint.
The woman has filed fresh a complaint at the Sandeshkhali police station saying that she has been facing threats and social ostracism ever since she decided to drop her false complaint.
She further claimed that local BJP leaders are engineering the social boycott of her family.&nbsp;
"They asked for my signature on the pretext of enlisting my name for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Later, they took me to the police station to lodge a complaint of sexual abuse. There was no sexual assault on me inside the Trinamool office. I was never forced to go to the party office late at night," she was quoted as saying.
The woman's claims marks a major u-turn to the whole Sandeshkhali row, in which the BJP has been repeatedly targetting the ruling Mamata Banerjee government.
The twist comes three days after a purported sting showed Gangadhar Koyal, a BJP mandal president in Sandeshkhali block II, claiming that no rape or sexual harassment took place and that the complaints were fieled at the behest of Nandigram MLA Suvendu Adhikari.&nbsp;
The TMC released a 33-minute video that focused on Sandeshkhali Block-II BJP Mandal President Gangadhar Koyal.

Amid the row over incidents in Sandeshkhali where allegations of sexual abuse against TMC leaders have surfaced, the party on Saturday released a video on social media, claiming that the episode was a "conspiracy" by the BJP to defame West Bengal ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
In the purported video, a man, who claimed to be a BJP mandal president in Sandeshkhali, was heard saying that leader of the opposition in the West Bengal assembly "Suvendu Adhikari is behind the whole conspiracy".
The man alleged in the video that Adhikari had asked him and other BJP leaders of the area to "instigate three-four local women to level allegations of rape against three TMC leaders, including Shajahan Sheikh".
PTI did not verify the authenticity of the video posted by the TMC.
The local BJP leader was also heard saying that Nandigram MLA "Adhikari himself had planted guns at a house in Sandeshkhali, which was later shown as the seizure by central agencies".
In a post titled &lsquo;Big expose on Sandeshkhali' on X, the ruling TMC said, Adhikari created a &ldquo;false narrative of mass rapes by paying money to local people to defame Bengal and Sandeshkhli".
The party also alleged that the "viral video exposed how the BJP left no stone unturned to malign Bengal. From 'mass rape' to 'arms seizure', every claim was bought and staged by none other than @SuvenduWB." Adhikari could not be contacted for his comment.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said the "shocking Sandeshkhali sting shows how deep the rot is within the BJP".
"In their hatred for Bengal's progressive thought &amp; culture, the 'Bangla-Birodhis' orchestrated a conspiracy to defame our state on every possible level," she said.
Banerjee also said, "Never before in the history of India has a ruling party in Delhi tried to malign an entire state and its people. History will witness how Bengal will rise in rage against Delhi's conspiratorial regime &amp; ensure their Bishorjon." "The cat is out of the bag. Sinister plot of Modi-Shah, central agencies and their allies stand exposed,&rdquo; the TMC said apparently referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah.
Addressing election rallies at Bardhaman-Durgapur and Krishnanagar, Modi on Friday criticised the Trinamool Congress for its &ldquo;apathy&rdquo; towards the victims in Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas, where allegations of sexual abuse against leaders of the ruling party have surfaced.
Senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee said, "I am shocked beyond words to see the Sandeshkhali sting video. Every citizen must witness the Bangla birodhi @BJP4India's attempt to defame and malign WB for their petty political ends.......This abhorrent act epitomises the grossest abuse of power in history," the TMC national general secretary said.

He described the alleged move by the BJP as a matter of "shame".
Responding to these allegations, BJP leader and party spokesman Shankudeb Panda said the TMC was unable to combat the swelling public anger on the Sandeskhlai incident.
"The TMC is insulting women in p and Bengal. Its leaders are uploading such a doctored video as it found no other way to combat the charges,&rdquo; he said.&nbsp;

The CBI seized arms and ammunition, including foreign-made pistols, during its searches at multiple locations in West Bengal's Sandeshkhali on Friday in connection with an attack on an Enforcement Directorate team by a mob allegedly instigated by local TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh, officials said.
The team was attacked in Sandeshkhali -- a riverine delta bordering the Sundarbans -- on January 5 when it had gone to raid the premises of Sheikh in connection with an alleged ration scam.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) during its probe got inputs of a large cache of arms hidden in Sandeshkhali. On Friday morning, a CBI team started a search operation during which the arms, including foreign-made pistols, were seized, the officials said.
On the orders of the Calcutta High Court, the central agency had registered three FIRs related to the incidents on January 5 .
The FIRs pertain to alleged attack on ED officers by a mob on the complaint by officers, allegations against ED officials levelled by the guard of suspended TMC leader Sheikh and a suo motu case registered by the Nazat police station about the attack on ED officers.
Sheikh was arrested by the West Bengal Police on February 29 in connection with the attack.
After the attack by a mob of around 1,000 people in which three ED officials were injured, a deputy director of the agency had given a complaint to the superintendent of police, Basirhat.

The CBI has created a dedicated e-mail ID -- sandeshkhali@cbi.gov.in -- on which victims of land grab in Sandeshkhali, a village in West Bengal, can get their complaints lodged, officials said on Thursday.
The agency has created the e-mail ID in compliance with the orders of the Calcutta High Court passed on Wednesday.
"The District Magistrate, North 24 Parganas has also been requested to give adequate publicity of the said e-mail ID in the locality and also issue a public notice in the vernacular dailies having a wide circulation in the areas as per the Hon'ble High Court's order," a CBI spokesperson said in a statement.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will start registering cases on the basis of the complaints received by it, sources said.
The high court on Wednesday ordered a court-monitored CBI probe into allegations of crimes against women and land grabbing in Sandeshkhali, saying an "impartial inquiry" is required in the interest of justice and fair play.
The court also directed the CBI to file a comprehensive report on the alleged illegal conversion of agricultural land into water bodies for pisciculture, after conducting a thorough inspection of the revenue records and a physical inspection of the land alleged to have been converted.
The court asked the central agency to submit a comprehensive report to it on the next date of hearing on May 2.
The state government was directed to provide the required support to the CBI.
The agency is already probing three cases related to attacks on Enforcement Directorate officials at Sandeshkhali allegedly by a mob instigated by Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shahjahan Sheikh.

Stating that the investigation will be monitored by the court, a division bench presided by Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam directed the CBI to file a comprehensive report on the alleged illegal conversion of agricultural land into water bodies for pisciculture after conducting a thorough inspection of revenue records and physical inspection of land alleged to have been converted.
The court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate allegations of crimes against women and forcible land grabbing in Sandeshkhali and submit a comprehensive report to it on the next date of hearing.
The bench, also comprising Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharyya, directed that the matter will be heard again on May 2, the date on which the CBI was asked to file the report.

The Calcutta High Court came down heavily on the West Bengal government on Thursday over the alleged violence against women and land grabbing in Sandeshkhali.
Calling the case extremely shameful, the court pulled up the Mamata Banerjee government for allegedly sheilding the primary accused and local leader Sheikh Shahjahan, who was absconding for two months after the matter came to light.
Upon hearing these arguments, Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam expressed strong resentment on the contents of the affidavit placed before the bench.
"The entire district administration and ruling dispensation must owe a moral responsibility. Even if [the affidavit] 1% is true it is absolutely shameful. And West Bengal says it is safest for women? If one affidavit is proved to be right all of this falls," the court stated, according to LiveLaw outlet.
The high court's observations came in response to a public interest litigation seeking an independent probe into the Sandeshkhali case. The court has reserved its order.
A division bench of Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharya were hearing the litigations seeking an independent probe.
Additional Solicitor General SV Raju appearing for the ED sought for the records of all criminal cases against Shiekh to be transferred to the ED, regardless of whether they had been transferred, and the same was objected to by the Advocate General.
&nbsp;Sheikh Shahjahan has been accused of orchestrating an assault on ED officials on January 5 when they went to search the premises of Sheikh at Sarberia village in North 24 Parganas district's Sandeshkhali in connection with a ration distribution scam case, in which a then minister was arrested by the agency.
Jyotipriya Mallick was the state's forest minister when he was arrested and held the Food and Supplies portfolio from 2011 to 2021.
On an order of the Calcutta High Court, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is probing the assault case, in which Sheikh has been accused of orchestrating the mob attack on the ED officials to prevent them from raiding his premises.&nbsp;
Apart from that he is also accused of money laundering, in which he is alleged to have siphoned money in the garb of the pisciculture business in Sandeshkhali. He is currently under the custody of the Enforcement Directorate till April 13.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday called up the BJP's Lok Sabha poll candidate from Basirhat, Rekha Patra, who had highlighted the plight of women in West Bengal's Sandeshkhali, and lauded her as "Shakti Swaroopa'', BJP leaders said.
Patra, who had raised her voice against the alleged atrocities by local Trinamool Congress (TMC) strongman Shajahan Sheikh and his cronies, was picked by the BJP as its candidate from Basirhat Lok Saha seat, under which the village falls.
Modi spoke to her about her campaign preparations and the support for the BJP among voters and other issues, while she narrated the ordeal of Sandeshkhali women.
Patra told Modi she feels good that he is standing by them and said, "It is like Ram ji is with us".
She said she has not voted since 2011 due to the situation in the area, to which Modi assured that the Election Commission will hold free and fair elections and ensure everyone can vote.
Patra also said that the TMC supporters around her initially opposed her candidature from the BJP, but are supporting her now. She said she has no enmity with anyone.
She also said that she hails from a poor family and her husband works in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
"I will do something so that no one has to go so far for work. They will get employment here only," she said.
PM Modi hailed her as "Shakti Swaroopa". Shakti is a Hinduism term associated with goddesses like Durga and Kali.
"You fought the battle in Sandeshkhali, you are 'Shakti Swaroopa'...," PM Modi said.
He also said that she should take the message to the masses about how the Trinamool Congress government is working against the people of the state.
"Work in the midst of people, take the message to them that the TMC government is creating problems for the people, they do not allow implementation of the BJP (union) government schemes in West Bengal. Tell people that they are indulging in corruption, and changing names of schemes," the prime minister was quoted as saying by a BJP leader.
Basirhat, one of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal, is currently represented by the TMC.
Sheikh, who has been suspended by the TMC, and some of his associates have been arrested in connection with attacks on ED officials and are in CBI custody.

The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the West Bengal government's plea challenging the Calcutta High Court order transferring the probe of the Sandeshkhali violence case to the CBI.
The court was hearing the matter related to the attack on teams of the Enforcement Directorate and Central Armed Police Forces on January 5.
It also came down heavily on the Mamata Banerjee government over the delay in the arrest of former TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh, the alleged mastermind behind the attack. &nbsp;
A bench of Justices BR Gavai and Sandeep Mehta, however, agreed to expunge remarks against the West Bengal Police in the high court judgement.&nbsp;
The bench noted the submission of Additional Solicitor General SV Raju that he has no objection to the expunction of the remarks if the final order transferring the probe to CBI remains as it is.
During the hearing, the bench posed several questions to senior advocate Jaideep Gupta, representing the West Bengal police, as to why suspended TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh was not promptly arrested after the January 5 attack and why was there a delay in the investigation of the case.
Raju contended if the investigation was not handed over to the CBI, the probe by the state police will be a farce.
On March 6, the West Bengal government had approached the top court seeking urgent listing of its petition challenging the high court order, but failed to elicit prompt relief.
The state government, in its plea before the apex court, dubbed the high court order as perverse, illegal, and arbitrary which deserves to be set aside.
"It is most respectfully submitted that the Impugned Order was pronounced by the Division Bench at 3 pm and uploaded on the High Court website by 3.30 pm (approx.), but the directions contained therein required the Petitioner/State Govt. to comply with such directions by 4.30 pm on the self same day i.e. March 5, 2024 which effectively frustrated the Petitioner's right to avail its remedy under Article 136 of the Constitution.
"In fact, the Advocate General appearing for the Petitioner State orally prayed seeking stay on the operation of the Impugned Order for three days to avail such legal remedy but the Division Bench not only rejected such prayer but refused to record the same in the Impugned Order," the state government said.
The high court had last week asked Bengal police to hand over Shahjahan's custody to the central agency. It had also come down heavily on the state police. The Supreme Court today expunged the high court's observations on Bengal police.

The West Bengal government moved the Supreme Court challenging the Calcutta High Court order to hand over to CBI the case of attack on ED officials at Sandeshkhali and the custody of suspended TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the investigation by registering an FIR on Tuesday, but the state police refused to hand over Sheikh to the CBI team.&nbsp;
"We have not handed him over to CBI as the state government has moved the Supreme Court," a CID official said.
In the Supreme Court, the matter was mentioned before a bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta by senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for the West Bengal government. The bench refused an urgent listing of the plea and asked Singhvi to mention the matter before the Registrar General of the top court.
A team of ED officials was attacked by a nearly 1,000-strong mob on January 5 when they went to raid the house of Sheikh, who allegedly has close links with arrested former state food minister Jyoti Priya Mallick, in connection with the multi-crore ration distribution scam in West Bengal.
"There can be no better case than the case on hand which requires to be transferred to be investigated by CBI," a high court division bench headed by Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam had ruled.&nbsp;
Both the ED and the West Bengal government had moved separate appeals challenging a single bench's January 17 order to form a joint special investigation team (SIT) of the CBI and the state police to probe the mob attack on the ED officials.
While the ED wanted the probe to be transferred to the CBI only, the state prayed that the investigation be allowed to be done by the state police.
Sheikh, who is also the prime accused in alleged sexual atrocities on women and land grabbing at Sandeshkhali, was arrested by the state police on February 29 in the ED officials attack case.
The ED had contended before the court that the state police purposely arrested Sheikh in the case of the attack on ED officials, even though more than 40 other cases have been pending against him for years, to deny the CBI the custody of Sheikh if the case is handed over to the central agency.
The division bench had earlier stayed a single bench order constituting the SIT and restrained the West Bengal police from proceeding with the investigation in the cases registered by them in connection with the attack on ED officials.
The bench said that despite such an order, the case stood transferred to the state CID and they issued notices to the ED officials.
"Thus, this act of the state police would be sufficient to hold that the state police are totally biased and every attempt is being made to delay the investigation in order to protect the accused who has been absconding for more than 50 days," the bench observed.
The court noted that the then-absconding accused is stated to be a "strong man" in the locality and has very powerful connections in the ruling party apart from having been elected on a TMC ticket as a Karmadhaksya of the North 24 Parganas Zilla Parishad.
The bench observed that the state police had played "hide and seek" to shield the accused who "undoubtedly is a highly politically influential person and has demonstrably shown that he is and would be in a position to influence the investigation if allowed to rest with the state police." The court noted that the case which has been registered by ED in its investigation into the alleged ration distribution scam involves highly politically powerful persons which include the accused Sheikh.

The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday ordered transfer of the probe into an attack on Enforcement Directorate officials at Sandeshkhali on January 5 from the West Bengal Police to the CBI. The court also directed that the custody of TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh, who was arrested by the West Bengal police on February 29 in connection with the attack, be handed over to the central agency.
A division bench presided by Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam directed that the directions be complied with by 4.30 pm on Tuesday.

Hours after his arrest, the Trinamool Congress on Thursday suspended strongman Shajahan Sheikh for six years. In a press briefing, TMC leader Derek O&rsquo;Brien dared the BJP to act against its tainted leaders such as former wrestling body chief Brij Bhushan.
"There are two types of parties, One type of political party does only talk, while the TMC walks the talk," &nbsp;O&rsquo;Brien said while referring to the BJP.
Sheikh was arrested earlier in the day from a house in Bamanpukur in Minakhan police station area, around 30 km away from the island of Sandeshkhali on the outskirts of Sunderbans, in North 24 Parganas district.
Sheikh was hiding in the house along with a few associates, police said.
After the arrest, he was taken to the Basirhat court, which sent him to 10 days in police custody.
Sheikh, who has been at the centre of a massive political firestorm, came out of the lock-up around 10.40 am dressed in white kurta-pajama, and walked to the courtroom with policemen behind him. He also made a gesture with his hand at the media contingent waiting there.
After the hearing, which lasted for barely two minutes, he returned to the lock-up. Later, police whisked him away to an undisclosed destination.
Sheikh was taken into custody within 24 hours of the Calcutta High Court stating that the CBI, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) or the West Bengal Police can arrest him.

The arrest comes after the Calcutta High Court on Monday ordered that Sheikh's name be added to the Sandeshkhali case, and clarified that there was no stay on his arrest. Further, on Wednesday, the HC said Sheikh can be arrested by the CBI, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) or the West Bengal Police.
The ruling Trinamool Congress hailed the arrest and said it was possible only after the court cleared the decks and accused the opposition of exploiting the earlier "embargo" on his arrest.
"Due to a legal tangle, he couldn't be arrested initially. However, after the court clarified that there was no stay on his arrest, the West Bengal Police did its job. The opposition had earlier exploited the embargo on his arrest," TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh told PTI.
The opposition BJP, which had claimed that Sheikh was in "safe custody" of state police since Tuesday night, dubbed the arrest as scripted.
"It was TMC and the state police which were shielding the culprits. He has been arrested now as a part of a well-scripted story," BJP state spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya said.
The riverine Sandeshkhali area -- situated on the borders of the Sundarbans, about 100 kilometres from Kolkata -- has been on the boil for more than a month with protests over allegations of sexual abuse and land grab against local TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh and his supporters.
The unrest in the area stems from accusations against Sheikh and his supporters of land grabbing and sexual assault with the local TMC strongman evading authorities since a mob attack on Enforcement Directorate officials on January 5.&nbsp;

The court's clarification came a day after TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee said the Bengal government has been unable to arrest Sheikh as the court had "tied the hands the police".

The West Bengal Police arrested TMC leader Ajit Maiti from the trouble-torn Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district on the charges of land grabbing from villagers, an officer said on Monday.
Maiti, considered a close aide of absconding TMC strongman Shahjahan Sheikh, was detained on Sunday evening from the residence of a civic volunteer where he had locked himself for over four hours after being chased by villagers, he said.
"We have arrested him after getting complaints from villagers regarding land grabbing. We will produce him in the court later in the day," the police officer told PTI.
After getting over 70 complaints, the police lodged an FIR against Shajahan Shiekh, he said.
Most of the complainants claimed that Shajahan was actively involved in the forcible acquisition of their land and torturing of local women, the police officer said.
Angry villagers had attacked Maiti a couple of days back for his alleged ties with Shiekh and his group, accused of land grabbing and sexual assault on local women.
The police action comes after a TMC delegation visited the restive Sandeshkhali for the second consecutive day on Sunday and heard the grievances of villagers who have been protesting against alleged atrocities by local leaders of the ruling party.

An independent fact-finding committee led by former Chief Justice of Patna High Court L Narasimha Reddy was briefly arrested when they were on their way to visit the violence-hit Sandeshkhali area on February 25.

The six-member team comprised Reddy, former IPS officer Raj Pal Singh, former National Commission for Women member Charu Wali Khanna, advocates OP Vyas and Bhavna Bajaj, and senior journalist Sanjeev Nayak.
While speaking to reporters, a member of the team criticised the police, suggesting that the present crisis warrants a president's rule in the state.
"We were arrested under section 151 CrPC. They brought us here and after bail documentation, we were released. We are going to meet the Governor and describe the situation to him. We did not do anything but they arrested us. This happens only in Bengal."
"The entire country is seeing what is happening here. The culprit is roaming free and victims are under pressure. This decision (of implementing President's Rule) can only be taken by the Government...."
Reddy termed the police's actions as "completely illegal". "We have told the police personnel as law-abiding citizens we will not break rules. No curfew has been imposed in Sandeshkhali. So we can go in two groups. At least two of our women members should be allowed to visit the females who had bore the brunt of atrocities of musclemen enjoying political patronage and impunity from police action in all these days till the media unravelled the shocking truth."

A fresh flare-up was witnessed in the violence-hit Sandeshkhali region in West Bengal, as locals ransacked local TMC leader Ajit Maity&rsquo;s house and assaulted him.
Maity is believed to be the close aide of absconding TMC strongman Shahjahan Sheikh, who is accused of land-grabbing and sexual harrasement.
Friday's incident took place in the afternoon in the Sandeshkhali 2 block area, around 15 kilomteres away from the centre of the main protests, Indian Express newspaper reported.
Police were later called in and pacified the protesters. It assured both sides that all the steps would be taken to address the situation.&nbsp;
