Ace filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has put the rumours surrounding his upcoming film &lsquo;Love And War&rsquo; to rest. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, the acclaimed director confirmed that the film, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal, is not a remake of the 1964 classic &lsquo;Sangam&rsquo;.
&lsquo;Why would I remake Sangam? You don&rsquo;t remake Sholay or Mother India, do you?&rsquo; Bhansali quipped, dispelling the speculation. He explained that &lsquo;Love And War&rsquo; is a deeply personal project for him, and unlike his past films, it doesn't feature period settings, elaborate costumes, or grandiose sets.
&lsquo;It's contemporary, with different music. It's a new territory for me, and I&rsquo;m loving it,&rsquo; he said.
Despite the swirling rumours, Sanjay Leela Bhansali assured fans that Love And War is an entirely original creation, marking his much-anticipated reunion with Ranbir Kapoor after 18 years.
&lsquo;It&rsquo;s exciting to work with Ranbir again,&rsquo; Bhansali said.
Their last collaboration was on Saawariya in 2007, and the director is eager to present a fresh side of the actor.
Bhansali also showered praise on his other lead actors. Alia Bhatt, who previously won accolades for Gangubai Kathiawadi, is back, and the director feels there's still much more to explore with her.
&lsquo;Alia is a powerhouse. There&rsquo;s so much left to tap into,&rsquo; Bhansali fondly remarked. This will also be Vicky Kaushal's first time working with the celebrated director.
Expressing a deep emotional connection with the cast, Bhansali stressed how important the film is to him. However, he noted the challenging nature of the project and that he is approaching it with care. &lsquo;It&rsquo;s difficult, so I won&rsquo;t take my actors or the audience for granted,&rsquo; he explained.
Fans will have to be patient, as Love And War is set to release in March 2026.

'The Kashmir Files' director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri recently took a dig at Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Heeramandi: The Dimaond Bazaar'. The filmmaker, taking to X, also praised a Pakistani doctor who slammed SLB's show for its perceived inauthentic portrayal of the historical period and location.

The viewer, who goes by the username of Hamd Nawaz, criticised 'Heermanadi' for its false depiction of events, locations and costumes. Saying it has everything but 'Heermandi in it', the netizen on X argued that the show does not accurately represent 1940s Lahore.
"Just watched Heeramandi. Found everything but heermandi in it. I mean either you don&rsquo;t set your story in 1940&rsquo;s Lahore, or if you do- you don&rsquo;t set it in Agra&rsquo;s landscape, Delhi&rsquo;s Urdu, Lakhnavi dresses and 1840&rsquo;s vibe. My not-so-sorry Lahori self can&rsquo;t really let it go (sic)," the user wrote.&nbsp;
In another tweet, Nawaz expressed dismay over the representation of set, soundtrack, dialogues and casting. "To begin with, where exactly is it set? Lake Como? Amalfi Coast? The most evident landmark still visible from every building in today&rsquo;s remnants of Heera Mandi is the Shahi Qilla-Grand Mosque&rsquo;s doom and minarets skyline. If you call it Lahore, show Lahore (sic)," she wrote.
Further, she pointed out the error in language and diction by writing,"And Language. Bhansali entire mental logic flows like -hmm&gt;&gt;&gt;Heeramandi&gt;&gt;&gt;Lahore&gt;&gt;&gt;Muslims&gt;&gt;&gt;Urdu&gt;&gt;&gt;Garhi Urdu&gt;&gt;&gt;Mughal-e-Azam/Mizra Ghalib Tier Urdu&gt;&gt;&gt;cast Urdu actors?&gt;&gt;&gt;Na, let&rsquo;s force the language. The catch is, 1940&rsquo;s average Lahori didn&rsquo;t even converse in Urdu, but Punjabi (sic)."

Retweeting Hamd Nawaz's tweets, Vivek wrote, "A brilliant critique by @_SophieSchol. I haven&rsquo;t seen the show, but I have visited Heeramandi in Lahore a few times. Bollywood has this tendency to romanticize courtesans and brothels. It&rsquo;s a sad commentary because brothels have never been places of opulence, glamour or beauty. These are monuments of human injustice, pain and suffering. Those unfamiliar with this should watch Shyam Benegal&rsquo;s Mandi."
"Also, a question we must ask: Does creativity give us the freedom to glamorise human suffering? Is it okay to make a film where slum life is depicted as a life of abundance? Is it okay to portray slum dwellers wearing clothes as if they are attending an Ambani wedding? Pl discuss," he added.

Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali recently captivated Los Angeles audiences with a special retrospective of his work.
The Aero Theatre, known as a haven for film enthusiasts, was transformed into a tribute to Bhansali's cinematic world, with a focus on Alia Bhatt's film 'Gangubai Kathiawadi.'
After the screening, attendees were given a sneak peek into Bhansali's highly-anticipated Netflix series, 'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.' Exclusive unreleased scenes captivated the audience, offering a tantalizing preview of his next magnum opus. At the event, Sanjay Leela Bhansali talked about the inspiration behind his portrayal of strong female characters. &lsquo;On strong female characters in my films, yes we come from a land where we worship the goddess. I have seen some very, very strong women all my life. Women need to be heard, women need to be seen, and their stories need to be told. They are the creators of mankind. We are all born to women-kind,&rsquo; the director said.

Known for bringing in larger than life visuals on big screens, now the filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is promising to bring the same magic to the realm of music. Adding another feather to his cap, the ace filmmaker has launched his own label &lsquo;Bhansali music&rsquo;. &nbsp;

Making the announcement on social media, Bhansali said, &ldquo;Music brings me great joy and peace. It&rsquo;s an integral part of my being. I am now launching my own music label &ldquo;Bhansali Music.&rdquo; He also emphasised on the aim of his label and said that he wishes the audience to experience the same joy and spiritual connect that he feels when he listens to or creates music. &nbsp;
While each of his films has been a visual masterpiece, music of Bhansali&rsquo;s films has been an integral part of the overall cinema experience. With the new announcement, Bhansali would be delving into the music industry, collaborating with the talented music personalities for his films.&nbsp; In his career of more than 25 years, Bhansali&rsquo;s films like &lsquo;Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam&rsquo;, &lsquo;Bajirao Mastani&rsquo;, &lsquo;Padmaavat&rsquo;, &lsquo;Ram Leela&rsquo; and &lsquo;Gangubai Kathiawadi&rsquo; have given some of the most iconic tracks that are still fan favourites. &nbsp;

Actor Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal shared a post on their social media handle. The multi-starrer will be released on Christmas 2025. &nbsp;
Apart from the leading names and release date, the director and actors have not revealed anything about the film. Promising an epic saga, shooting of the film will begin in a few months, once Bhansali finishes his current project &lsquo;Heera Mandi&rsquo; for Netflix. &nbsp;
While it will be the first time for Vicky Kaushal and Bhansali, both Ranbir and Alia have worked with the filmmaker. Ameesha shared that the filmmaker sent her a beautiful letter and when she met him, he said that she should retire as she achieved in two films which most people don't achieve in their entire career.
The actor added that what Sanjay Leela Bhansali said turned out to be true throughout her career as people couldn't digest the success of 'Gadar' as it surpassed that of her dream debut 'Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai'.

During her appearance on a roundtable interview conducted by Film Companion, she said that misogyny is the reason why Alia didn&rsquo;t receive praise in the manner that a male actor would after delivering a massive hit. &nbsp;
Vidya asked, &lsquo;How come Gangubai did well? If a woman&rsquo;s film does well, it&rsquo;s the director&rsquo;s credit, and this is ridiculous.&rsquo;
She further added, &lsquo;We worked so hard as women to have a certain standing today, where we&rsquo;re headlining films. More and more actresses are doing that. I love how post-pandemic, because the men&rsquo;s films aren&rsquo;t working, they suddenly turn around and say that the women&rsquo;s films aren&rsquo;t going to work all the more. How ridiculous? Alia Bhatt starrer 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' was one of the most talked about films of the year. The film was being campaigned for the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) 2022. But, the makers are now aiming big and trying to take the film to the Oscars this year. This Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial was based on Hussain Zaidi&rsquo;s book 'Mafia Queens of Mumbai'.
As reported by Deadline, the makers have decided to submit the film in all major categories including &ndash; Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Screenplay among others for the 95th Academy Awards. Another big film from India, SS Rajamouli's magnum opus 'RRR' is also being submitted in all the major categories after not being selected as India's official entry for Oscars 2023.
'Gangubai Kathiawadi' had its premiere at the 72nd edition of the Berlin International Film Festival and received major applause as well as a standing ovation from the audience. &nbsp;
The film was released in February this year and was commercially successful grossing over ₹200 crore worldwide. The film also stars Ajay Devgn, Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz in pivotal roles.

&lsquo;Gangubai Kathiawadi&rsquo;, starring Alia Bhatt, is being submitted for the prestigious British Academy Film (BAFTA) Awards 2023 in all categories, as per a release from the film&rsquo;s team. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial is now starting its campaign for the awards season. The 76th BAFTA Awards is scheduled to be held at the Royal Festival Hall in London in February 2023.&nbsp;
 According to Hindustan Times, a statement from the film&rsquo;s team says that as part of the campaign, &lsquo;Gangubai Kathiawadi&rsquo; will be submitted for BAFTA members&rsquo; consideration in all categories including Best Film, Director, Adapted Screenplay, and Leading Actress.&nbsp;
 Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali will now reportedly visit London and partake in several events to support the campaign. He is expected to speak about his craft at a BAFTA Masterclass on November 28.&nbsp;

Kapur took to Instagram and shared behind the scene video of his transformation for the action-thriller. The clip shows him going through rigorous practice sessions for the nail-biting action sequences in the Kapil Verma directorial. It has simply been captioned, 'Just do it.'&nbsp;
In no time, fans took to the comments section to praise the handsome hunk.&nbsp;&nbsp;

For all the countless fans of the legend, here is some good news for you. The news is that Rekha is in ‘advanced talks’ with Sanjay Leela Bhansali for his Netflix’s web show ‘Heeramandi’, as per a report in Bollywood Hungama. The role offered to Rekha has been reportedly tailor-made for Rekha.
Much before ‘Heeramandi’ was decided to be made into a web show, it was to be made into a feature film. If the rumors are to be believed, then, heroines like Priyanka Chopra, Madhuri Dixit, Tabu and Shabana Azmi had turned down the script.
In an earlier interview with Variety magazine, Sanjay Leela Bhansali had said that ‘Heeramandi’ was a huge saga about the courtesans of Lahore, and it was something he was living with for 14 years.
As per a media report, the cast of ‘‘Heeramandi’ includes actors like Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditi Rao Hydari.

There is some good news for Rekha fans. The ageless diva, who has been away from the silver screen for over seven years, is reportedly all set to make her comeback. According to a Bollywood Hungama report, the actor is in 'advanced talks' with Sanjay Leela Bhansali for his debut Netflix web show 'Heeramandi.' A source told the publication that the role has been specially written for Rekha.
The source further added that Rekha had been keen to work with Bhansali for a longtime and the filmmaker too was desirous of tapping into 'the Rekha mystique&rsquo;.

'Heeramandi' will be exclusively streamed on Netflix. It's first season will comprise of a total of seven episodes of one hour each.
