Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has been fined Rs 24 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during the IPL match against Chennai Super Kings.
It was his side's second over-rate offence of the season, and subsequently, the rest of the playing 11 members, including the Impact Player, were individually fined either Rs 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.
On Friday, GT defeated defending champions CSK by 35 runs to stay alive in the IPL.
Gill and B Sai Sudharsan made hundreds in GT's total of 231 for three before restricting CSK to 196 for eight.
The Titans are now eighth on the points table with 10 points from 12 matches, and CSK held on to their fourth place despite the defeat with 12 points from as many games.

The 24-year-old, who scored 890 runs during IPL 2023 and is among the top-10 batters in the current list believes that if he is "picked" it will be another chance for him to take a shot at glory.
If he is not picked, then he will wish the selected 15 the very best from the bottom of his heart.
&ldquo;Playing for India is the biggest thing. But if I start thinking about the World Cup, then I will be doing injustice to my current team (GT) and myself.
&ldquo;If I have to be picked for the T20 World Cup, I will be picked. But right now, my focus is on IPL and how to get the best out of my team and perform the best for my team which also helps my players,&rdquo; Gill told PTI in an interview.
For any player appearing in a World Cup is a dream, but Gill is learning the art of controlling the controllables.
&ldquo;Obviously as a player, I want to be there and play the World Cup and get that opportunity to represent my country at the highest level &ndash; the biggest stage of T20 cricket.
&ldquo;Having played in a World Cup last year, I have had my share of experiences, and it would be great to be able to play another World Cup. But I am not thinking that far ahead,&rdquo; he added.
But he didn't forget to mention &ndash; ever so subtly &ndash; that he has a body of performance built over two seasons.
&ldquo;I have scored almost 900 runs last season and if I had to be picked, I will be picked if not (then) best of luck to those who are picked,&rdquo; Gill said.
Captaining Titans is Gill's first tryst with leadership and perhaps through its prism, he is also learning more about 'Shubman-The Human'.
&ldquo;It's now exactly one month and its (captaincy) been good for me. I have learnt a lot of new things about myself, and about the team, which has been very interesting so far,&rdquo; he said.
When asked to elaborate, he spoke about how trust is a two-way street built on shared vulnerabilities of the leader and his contingent.
&ldquo;When you are just a player you are just thinking in terms of how you can help the team in terms of batting and fielding but when you are the captain, you also need to find a way to get the best out of players.
&ldquo;I need to gain their trust in order to get the best out of them, I need to show my vulnerability so that they can show theirs and you are always thinking more about others than yourself. You become more giving, feel good about yourself," he said.
It is not always easy to lead a side after two fantastic seasons where the team played back-to-back finals under Hardik Pandya, winning the inaugural season in 2022 and finishing second best last year.
So, does it become difficult to create his own footprints in a space created by Hardik and how does head coach Ashish Nehra help him ease into the role? His answer was an interesting one.
&ldquo;I think in that legacy that Gujarat Titans built, Ashish Nehra had more of a role to play,&rdquo; pat came the reply.
&ldquo;Obviously, under Hardik bhai, this team had nothing but success, but I am not thinking about what's gone in the last couple of seasons because that's history.
&ldquo;What my focus is right now is how we can get into the play off and in the play-off, it's then just about one match.
&ldquo;And we are a team that experienced success and know how to play big matches and be a better team in pressure situations,&rdquo; he sounded hopeful of GT&rsquo;s play-off qualification.
It has been a steady rise to stardom for the 'Crown Prince' of Indian batting, who is expected to carry the mantle once leading light Virat Kohli decides to hang his boots.
How does he look at fame and success? &ldquo;Success very much defines who you are but it doesn't teach you anything. Success can merely boost your ego and it&rsquo;s your failures that teach you and you need that in order to grow,&rdquo; he concluded.

With IPL 2024 set to roll on Friday, one captain who has 100 Tests under his belt, Kane Williamson is willing and ready to mentor newbie captain Shubman Gill who will be taking over a leadership role for the first time.

The unassuming Kane Williamson says he will be happy to help his Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill in any way he can as he considers the Indian a "great thinker".

With the IPL season set to roll on Friday, one captain who has 100 Tests under his belt is willing and ready to mentor a newbie captain who will be taking over a leadership role for the first time.
The unassuming Kane Williamson says he will be happy to help his Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill in any way he can as he considers the Indian a "great thinker", a huge compliment coming from someone who is a bonafide legend in international cricket.
"He (Gill) is a great player and like I said a great cricketing brain, and I would certainly encourage him to walk that path and take his decisions. No doubt what he will look to do the same," Williamson told PTI in an interview.
The 24-year-old Gill was handed Gujarat Titans' reins after incumbent Hardik Pandya made an abrupt exit from the franchise for his former team and spiritual base Mumbai Indians.
The dashing right-hander only recently recovered from a poor run of form when he came good in the home Test series against England, hitting two hundreds in the series.
He is set to explore the unchartered territory of captaincy in the IPL and Williamson promises to lend a helping hand whenever Gill needs it.
"I will be more than happy to help Shubman in any way I can and Shubman knows that," said Williamson.
The Titans have had a couple of great IPL seasons in 2022 and 2023. They won the title in 2022 and lost to Chennai Super Kings in a last-ball thriller the next year.
Williamson said that the youngster, who is widely regarded as the next Indian batting superstar, has the calibre to navigate his way through choppy waters.
"As for the team and myself, I would generally like to share some ideas. It is a long season ahead. It will be quite a journey and we will all be learning through it," said the veteran, who captained New Zealand to 22 wins in 40 Tests.
With no Mohammed Shami available due to recuperation from heel surgery, it won't exactly be a walk in the park for Gill but Williamson said such challenges are a routine for any captain.
"Obviously, there has been a few changes in the camp, that's a challenge for every team as every year you have some adjustments to make, really exciting opportunity for Shubman and we need to focus what's there in front of us," he said.
The support staff comprising head coach Ashish Nehra, Cricket Director Vikram Solanki and Mentor Gary Kirsten are also there to help Gill ease into his role.
As far as his own batting position is concerned, Williamson hinted that it would be his usual No. 3 slot.
"I think it will be a top order option. There are so many quality players, whether that's local Indian players, who have been exceptional or the overseas ones. So, it will come down to balance and I think a top order option," he said.
Williamson quite liked the idea of bowlers being allowed two bouncers per over from this IPL as he feels it will ensure a more balanced contest.
"I think it is a good addition and it will bring a slightly different dynamic to the game. It is a nice extra option for the fast bowlers," said Williamson.
However, on smaller grounds, the rule might just aid the batters.
"There could be smaller grounds around country and some very good surfaces which offer some high scores. Also addition of Impact Players, weighed more towards the runs side of the things. So, it is a nice addition and will play a role for sure."
In the middle of last year, Williamson had a horrifying knee injury which required Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) reconstruction and since his comeback, he is just happy to play the game he has always loved.
So, is there anything left to achieve for a man who has played 100 Tests, notched up 32 tons in the traditional format, won a World Test Championship title, and has been a part of the greatest ODI World Cup final? He paused and smiled.
"It is an interesting question. It is about having to remind yourself that you love this game as well. There's always more of those tournaments and more of those things.
"So just kind of trying to stand alone and appreciate where you are after having an injury, coming back. Just being grateful to be back playing and doing your bit for the team, whatever team that is," he said.
But he has the grace and humility to accept reality as well.
"Perhaps I am slightly closer to the end than start and but you know it is a journey that you look back upon and appreciate.
The only time he struggled to answer a question was when asked what makes him the most loved cricketer in the game?
"I think just kind of you to say that. I play for a team (New Zealand) and may be who I am. From a cricketing perspective, trying to commit to what that group is trying to do," he signed off.

However, nothing worked for the visitors despite the Barmy Army making a lot more noise than the Indian fans at the stunning HPCA stadium. Rohit and Gill collected 129 runs from 30 overs in the two hours of play.
Rohit and Gill, who were batting on 52 and 26 overnight, gave themselves an over each after start of play before going for their strokes.
Off-spinner Bashir opened the bowling alongside veteran pacer James Anderson and was put under immense pressure by Rohit, who deposited him for a straight six and a four in his second over to set the tone.
Gill, who played some audacious strokes on the opening day, carried on in the same vein as he took two steps forward against the great Anderson for a straight six, which was followed by a square cut.
The only real chance that England had in the session went begging when Zak Crawley could not latch on to a sharp catch offered by Rohit at leg-slip.
Mark Wood replaced Anderson and Gill put him under the pump with a square cut and a beautiful cover drive. Sixty runs in 15 overs in the first hour of play summed up India's intent.

After scoring 104 out of India&rsquo;s second innings total of 255 against England on the third day of the second Test, Gill was a pleased man.
It was his first 50-plus score in 13 innings and the first substantial knock after deciding to move down a place in the batting order.
&ldquo;It was very important and very satisfying for me to be able to score runs at number three. It felt pretty good, especially in the situation given when we lost Yashasvi and Rohit, as they were really good at giving us good starts at the top of the order.
&ldquo;I think it was important for us to get a big lead and to be able to get as many runs as possible,&rdquo; said Gill, who survived two close DRS calls early in his innings before gaining confidence.
Ever since his U-19 days, Gill has been rated highly and last year he came of age with a stellar white ball season. However, the success in the traditional format eluded him over the past six months.
Gill knows that the team has high expectations from him and perhaps that is why his celebrations post the landmark were rather subdued. He did not last long after reaching the milestone, falling to a reverse sweep.
&ldquo;It felt good. I just thought the job was not done for the team. So, that's why it was a little mellowed celebration,&rdquo; he said.
Talking about his struggles early on when James Anderson was making the ball talk, he said: &ldquo;I was just taking one ball at a time and obviously, there was a lot happening around the crease. A couple of wickets fell early and then me and Shreyas had a good partnership.&rdquo; Gill was guilty of using hard hands in the series opener and even reached out to a fairly wide ball in the first innings here to get out. He put in the hard yards in the nets ahead of the second Test and that seemed to have worked for him.
&ldquo;I think it's very important to stay true to who you are and how you have gotten there. Sometimes if you get over-defensive or over-aggressive or try to play or try to be someone that you are not, then you are prolonging those innings.
"Then you're sometimes not able to get out of that shell that was my thing going into this Test that I'm going to play how I've played my cricket throughout,&rdquo; Gill shared his thoughts on dealing with the lean phase.

Former all-rounder Irfan Pathan doesn't want either Shubman Gill or Shreyas Iyer to be dropped from the Indian playing XI for the second Test against England as he feels their experience is crucial in the absence of senior players like Virat Kohli and KL Rahul.
Both Gill (23, 0) and Iyer (35, 13) struggled against the English spinners in the first Test in Hyderabad, which India lost by 28 runs to trail 0-1 in the five-match series.
But with Kohli, Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja not playing the second Test, beginning in Visakhapatnam on Friday, Pathan doesn't believe the Indian team management will take the risk of including young Sarfaraz Khan in the playing eleven.
"A senior player like Virat Kohli's absence is a massive factor. Over that KL Rahul is also injured. So the team management has plenty to think about. They need to think whether to give a chance to a new player straight away or wait a bit," Pathan said on the sidelines of the launch of Asian Legends League.
"There is no doubt that these two boys (Gill and Iyer) haven't performed for quite some time now but it's not that they have never performed." In case the team management decides to include a new batter, the toss-up will be between Rajat Patidar and Sarfaraz, who has scored tons of runs in domestic cricket.
"Obviously, there are two new players in the squad -- Rajat Patidar and Sarfaraz. But the Indian team management doesn't have Virat Kohli's service at the moment, so it will be difficult for the team management to blood in a new player straightaway. They would want to back experience," Pathan explained.
"So it's a big challenge but looking at the scenario, they might be now thinking of going with experience. Shreyas and Shubman have been there for quite some time now and have experience, which comes into play in crunch situations.
"I feel the team management will back them because 2-3 experienced players are not there in the team," the former bowling all-rounder added.
In case one between Patidar and Sarfaraz is picked, Pathan's vote is with the former as he made the squad before the prolific Mumbai 'Run Machine'.
Pathan, however, doesn't want to press the panic button after loss in the series opener and backed India to win the five-match rubber.
"We lost just one match but that doesn't mean our bowlers are not good. I knew we would lose one or two matches but it is good because there is plenty of learning from defeat. I hope we win the series and I still feel India will win the series. The series is not over yet," he said.
"I was really shocked that we lost but I am still hopeful that we will make a comeback." He also came in support of skipper Rohit Sharma, who faced some flak for his decisions in the opening Test.
"Rohit Sharma is a good captain. Yes, he made some mistakes in the last match but hope he will do everything to make a comeback in the series." The Asian Legends League is a five-team tournament is set to be held across Asian countries from March 13 to 21.
Former India pacer Chetan Sharma is the commissioner of the league, which has Indian Royals, Sri Lankan Lions, Afghanistan Pathan, Bangladesh Tiger and Pakistan Stars as the competing teams.

He made 23 and 0 in the two innings of the first Test against England here, which India lost by 28 runs on Sunday.
"He (Gill) has been given the cushion perhaps even a Cheteshwar Pujara didn&rsquo;t get, although he (Pujara) has played over a 100 Tests," Kumble said on 'JioCinema'.
"I keep coming back to him (Pujara) mainly because that was his place (No 3) not too long ago. Pujara played in that World Test Championship final and post that, it's been Shubman Gill, who's been moving from the opener's slot, and he himself wanted to bat at No. 3."
36-year-old Pujara last played a Test in June 2023 -- the World Test Championship final against Australia -- and he was ignored after that. He scored a double hundred (243 not out) in a Ranji match earlier this month. Skipper Rohit Sharma, before the start of the England series, stated that younger players were being preferred in a bid to look ahead in Indian cricket.
Kumble said the youngster needs to work on his mindset and also adjust his technique slightly for the second Test starting February 2.
"So, when you want to bat at No. 3 especially in India because you have that talent, you certainly need to work on your game. He has the skills, he is young and he&rsquo;s learning, but he needs to do it in Vizag (in the second Test), otherwise, the pressure will be on him," he observed.
"He needs to be a lot freer, score runs. He needs to come up with his own plan to tackle spin, because he has hard hands.
"It's good for good surfaces where the ball is coming on nicely and the faster bowlers are bowling at you. But when the ball is turning, when it's slow, you need to use your hands and control and check your shots. That's something he needs to work on. It can't be one flow all the time." But can Gill change his skill sets just four days before the next Test? "I think it's all the mindset. You can certainly work on your mindset, and you have the best possible person as the coach (Rahul Dravid) to manage that for Shubman Gill," he pointed out.
Indian batters are known for playing spin better than others but they were outwitted by England in the first Test here. Kumble advised the Indians to think out of the box in the remaining matches.
"India certainly need to buckle up with their approach to playing against spin because I felt the approach of a couple of batters wasn't positive and even the footwork wasn't what you expected.
"I also felt that they were certainly rattled by the way England approached their batting and with that, they have to come up with plans, some unconventional ones," he said.
Kumble also spoke on wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav's chances of making it to the playing XI in the second Test.
"I am not really sure whether you need a fourth spinner. But if India feel that they need only one fast bowler, then having Kuldeep will certainly help. He will have variations but England will come and do the same things they did in Hyderabad," he said.

BCCI on Sunday announced that former India all-rounder and head coach Ravi Shastri will be honoured with BCCI's Lifetime Achievement Award on Tuesday.
Apart from that, Shubman Gill will be presented with Cricketer of the Year award following a memorable 12 months when he became the fastest to cross the 2000-run mark in ODIs and also scored five hundreds in the format.
"He (Shastri) has been chosen for the honour while Gill will be awarded the cricketer of the year," said a BCCI official.
The BCCI awards will be held for the first time since 2019 and both India and England teams are expected to be in attendance ahead of the first Test beginning here on Thursday.
Shastri, 61, represented India in 80 Tests and 150 ODIs. After retirement, he made a name for himself in the broadcasting world.
He also donned the coaching hat twice for the national team, first as a team director from 2014 to 2016 before returning to the team as head coach with captain Virat Kohli until the T20 World Cup in 2021.
The highlight of his tenure was the back-to-back Test series win in Australia. However, India could not win an ICC title when Shastri and Kohli were in charge.
India also reached the WTC final when Shastri was around but came short against New Zealand in the final. In 2019, India reached the semifinals of the ODI World Cup.
After his farewell event in the UAE in 2021, Shastri had said that he could not be more proud of the team.
"The quality of cricket this team has played over the last five years across all formats, the performances are there for everyone to see. When you perform in that fashion, when you go across the globe, across all formats and beat teams, then you know you're part of one great cricket team," he had said.
"I'm not saying a great cricket team, India - I'm saying one of the great cricket teams in the history of the game, because if you look at those kind of performances, they don't happen often."
