The Siachen Glacier is a glacier located in the eastern Karakoram range in the Himalayas. It is the longest glacier in the Karakoram and the second longest in the world's non-polar areas.&nbsp;

An Agniveer died in the line of duty in Siachen, the Army's Leh-headquartered Fire and Fury Corps said on Sunday.
Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande and all ranks of the force condoled the death of Agniveer, Gawate Akshay Laxman, who hailed from Maharashtra.
The Siachen glacier at the height of around 20,000 feet in the Karakoram range is known as the highest militarised zone in the world where the soldiers have to battle frostbite and high winds.
The exact details of Laxman's death is not immediately known.
"Quartered in snow silent to remain, when the bugle calls they shall rise and march again," the Fire and Fury Corps said on 'X'.
"All ranks of Fire and Fury Corps salute the supreme sacrifice of #Agniveer (Operator) Gawate Akshay Laxman, in the line of duty, in the unforgiving heights of #Siachen and offer deepest condolences to the family," it said.

India has installed the first-ever mobile tower at the Siachen glacier.

The first-ever mobile tower has been installed at Siachen Glacier, which is the highest battlefield and disputed territory between India and Pakistan. The new tower will provide mobile services to Indian Army officials stationed at an altitude of 15,500 feet.
A base transceiver station has also been set up and will convert radio frequencies to digital signals.
&ldquo;Siachen Warriors in collaboration with BSNL established first ever BSNL BTS at forward posts of the highest battlefield on 06 October to extend mobile communication for the soldiers deployed at more than 15,500 feet,&rdquo; Indian Army&rsquo;s Fire and Fury Corps wrote in a post.
The mobile tower&rsquo;s installation was hailed by social media users. Mahindra Group chairman Anand Mahindra said the development was &ldquo;as important as the Vikram Lander.&rdquo;

The Sainik Group Centre in Ranikhet on Sunday identified the body as that of Chandrashekhar Harbola of the 19 Kumaon Regiment.
Harbola was part of a 20-member troop that was dispatched to the world's highest battlefield for 'Operation Meghdoot' to fight Pakistan in 1984.
During patrolling, they encountered an ice storm. While the bodies of 15 soldiers were recovered, those of the other five could not be found and Harbola was one among them.

His wife Shanti Devi, originally from Almora, currently lives in Saraswati Vihar Colony here. His body is expected to reach Haldwani in <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/accused-of-molesting-granddaughter-roadways-union-leader-ex-minister-shoots-self-dead-in-uttarakhand-1653648172067">Uttarakhand </a>late on Monday.
Haldwani sub-collector Manish Kumar and tehsildar Sanjay Kumar, who reached Harbola's house, said his last rites will be performed with full military honours.
Shanti Devi said at the time, they were married for nine years and that she was 28. Their elder daughter at the time was four and the younger one was one and a half years old.

Shanti Devi said Harbola had last arrived home in January 1984, during which he had promised to return soon. However, Shanti Devi said she was proud of her husband as he prioritised his service to the country over the promises made to the family.
According to information available, Harbola, a resident of Dwarahat in Almora, had enlisted in the army in 1975.
Reportedly, the body of another soldier was also found but his identity was yet to be ascertained.&nbsp;
