In a YouTube video, Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel called for calm after the stabbing sparked angry scenes outside the church.

A Sydney bishop brutally stabbed during a live-streamed sermon said Thursday he is recovering and forgives his attacker, declaring: "You are my son."
Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel was slashed in the head and chest by a 16-year-old suspect on Monday, sparking a riot by followers of the Assyrian Christian church in western Sydney.
"I am doing fine, recovering very quickly," said the bishop of Christ the Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley.
The area is a hub for Sydney's small Christian Assyrian community, many of whom fled persecution and war in Iraq and Syria.
Emmanuel has an online following of almost 200,000, galvanising many with his criticism of Covid-19 vaccines and lockdowns as well as Islam.
"There is no need to be worried or concerned," the bishop said in a YouTube video released Tuesday, with audio of his voice accompanied by a photo of him in vestments.
"I forgive whoever has done this act and I say to him: You are my son, I love you and I will always pray for you. And whoever sent you to do this, I forgive them as well."
The teenage suspect was taken to a Sydney hospital after the attack.
Senior police said mid-week his treatment was expected to last for several days.
The bishop called for calm after the stabbing sparked angry scenes outside the church.
Hundreds of congregants and members of the community rushed to the site on the night of the attack.
Some hurled rocks and other projectiles that allegedly wounded police and damaged 50 police cars.
"I want you to always be calm," the bishop said.
"We need to be always law-abiding citizens as well. We need to cooperate with the police directives whether it be at a state level or a federal level," he said.
"We should never forget that we are very blessed to be Aussies, but above all we are Christians and we need to act like it."
Police charged a 19-year-old man Wednesday in connection with the violence outside the church and have warned more will be arrested in the coming days.

Australian police on Tuesday said a brutal live-streamed knife attack at a church service in Sydney was a religiously motivated "terrorist" act, as they urged calm from the angered local community.
Two people were stabbed when a 16-year-old suspect rushed the dais at an Assyrian church in western Sydney late Monday, slashing wildly at the bishop who was giving a sermon.
The teen was immediately subdued by outraged congregants and taken into police custody.
The alleged perpetrator was "known to police" but was not on any terror watchlists, senior officers said.
"After consideration of all the material, I declared that it was a terrorist incident," New South Wales police commissioner Karen Webb told a news conference.
Webb said the attack was deemed an act of religiously motivated "extremism" that intimidated the public -- adding that the victims were "lucky to be alive".
The head of Australia's leading spy agency said that the suspect appeared to have acted alone and there was no immediate need to raise the country's terror threat level.
"At this stage, it looks like the actions of an individual," Australian Security Intelligence Organisation head Mike Burgess said in rare public comments.
"At this point, there is no indication of anyone else involved, but that remains an open investigation."
Three other people were treated for non-stab wounds sustained in the attack and about 30 more were treated after a riot that ensued outside the church.
For three hours, more than 500 protestors clashed with a phalanx of riot police who battled to prevent them from reentering the church and lynching the teen.
He is now being held at an undisclosed location and is believed to have also sustained knife injuries. Authorities had originally given the suspect's age as 15.
An AFP journalist at the scene late Monday saw projectiles being hurled before police with riot shields and body armour eventually pushed the protesters away from the church.
Twenty police vehicles and some houses were damaged as the protesters threw bottles, bricks and other items.
One officer was "hit with a metal object and sustained a twisted knee and a chipped tooth", police said.
"Another constable sustained a broken jaw after he was hit with a brick and a fence paling."
Calm was eventually restored, but more officers were deployed to the neighbourhood to protect local religious buildings.

The incident came two days after a man with a knife killed six people at a shopping mall in the city's east before being shot dead by police.
AFP verified the video of Monday's attack as being taken at the Christ the Good Shepherd Church, which has an online following of almost 200,000.
It is located in Sydney's western suburb of Wakeley, a hub for Sydney's small Christian Assyrian community, many of whom fled persecution and war in Iraq and Syria.
New South Wales state premier Chris Minns issued a joint statement with Christian and Muslim leaders calling for calm.
"We're calling on everyone to act with kindness and respect for each other", the statement said.
"Now is the time to show that we are strong and united."
Assyrians trace their roots to an empire that ruled a swath of the ancient Middle East.
Since that age of empire, they have faced persecution as a religious and ethnic minority distinct from the region's Arab and Muslim majorities.
There have also been schisms within the local Assyrian community over the teachings of the victim Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel.
Australians are still reeling from Saturday's stabbing, which was carried out by a 40-year-old man with a history of mental illness.
In that attack, videos shared on social media showed unshaven itinerant Joel Cauchi pursuing mostly female victims as he rampaged through the vast, crowded Westfield shopping complex in Bondi Junction on Saturday afternoon.
A black ribbon was projected onto the Sydney Opera House on Monday as a mark of respect for the victims of that attack.

&nbsp;Police have identified the assailant who stabbed six people to death at a busy Sydney shopping center before he was fatally shot by a police officer.
New South Wales Police said Sunday that Joel Cauchi, 40, was responsible for the Saturday afternoon attack at the Westfield Shopping Centre in Bondi Junction, in the city's eastern suburbs and not far from the world-famous Bondi Beach.
NSW Assistant Police Commissioner Anthony Cooke told reporters at a media conference on Sunday that Cauchi suffered from yet unspecified mental health issues and police investigators weren't treating the attack as terrorism-related.
&ldquo;We are continuing to work through the profiling of the offender but very clearly to us at this stage it would appear that this is related to the mental health of the individual involved,&rdquo; Cooke said.
&ldquo;There is still, to this point... no information we have received, no evidence we have recovered, no intelligence that we have gathered that would suggest that this was driven by any particular motivation - ideology or otherwise,&rdquo; he added.
The attack at the shopping center, one of the country's busiest and which was a hub of activity on a particularly warm fall afternoon, began around 3:10 pm and police were swiftly called.
Six people &mdash; five women and one man, aged between 20 and 55 &mdash; were killed in the attack and 12 others remain in hospital, including a 9-month-old child, whose mother died during the attack.
Two of the six victims were from overseas and have no family in Australia, Cooke said on Sunday.
Video footage shared online appears to show many people fleeing as a knife-wielding Cauchi walked through the shopping center and lunging at people.
Other footage shows a man confronting the attacker on an escalator in the shopping center by holding what appeared to be a post towards him.
Cauchi was shot dead by a lone female police officer at the scene.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the officer was &ldquo;certainly a hero&rdquo; who's actions had saved many more lives.
&ldquo;The wonderful inspector who ran into danger by herself and removed the threat that was there to others, without thinking about the risks to herself,&rdquo; he said.
&ldquo;We also see the footage of ordinary Australians putting themselves in harm's way in order to help their fellow citizens. That bravery was quite extraordinary that we saw yesterday,&rdquo; he added.
The shopping center remains closed on Sunday and will be an active crime scene for days, police said.

In yet another shocking case a of possible racial attack, an Indian student was stabbed multiple times in Sydney's Lane Cove in Australia.
The 28-year-old student identified as Shubham Garg, from Uttar Pradesh's Agra was stabbed atleast 11 times by the unknown attacker. Garg received life threatning wounds on face, chest and abdomen, according to Hindustan Times report.&nbsp;
Quoting family, the report said, the incident took place in the first week of October. His family has now sought help from the government on social media after failed attempts to visit Garg in Australia.
Kavya Garg who claims to be the sister of the 28-year-old student has sought urgent help in obtaining emergency visa from Prime minister Narendra Modi, UP CM Yog Adityanath and external affairs minister S Jaishankar by tagging them on social media.&nbsp;
"My brother is going through multiple operations and doctor said that infection is spreading in body. Requesting @narendramodi for urgent help on this matter," Kavya Garg tweeted on Thursday.

Days of torrential rain have caused dams to overflow and waterways to break their banks, bringing a fourth flood emergency in 16 months to parts of the city of 5 million people.
The New South Wales state government declared a disaster across 23 local government areas overnight, activating federal government financial assistance for flood victims.
