Amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state, Commissionerate Police (CP) Amritsar has successfully averted a possible grenade attack on a police establishment in Batala area with the arrest of 10 persons including four key operatives of cross-border terror module being operated by Pak-based Harvinder Rinda and foreign-based Happy Passian, Jeevan Fauji and Jashanpreet Singh alias Lal, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on Friday.
The four arrested key operatives have been identified as Arjanpreet Singh of Awan Ramdas in Amritsar, Lovepreet Singh alias Love of Perhewal in Amritsar, Basant Singh and Amanpreet Singh alias Aman, both residents of Baba Bakala Sahib in Amritsar. While, the six handlers, who were involved in providing logistic support, have been identified as Barinderpal Singh alias Mani &nbsp;and Rajbir Singh alias Raju, both residents of Katle in Amritsar; Vishvas Masih alias Bhabbo of Bhaganpura in Amritsar; Dilpreet Singh alias Manna, Harjot Kumar alias Mithu and Joyal Masih alias Rohan alias Nony, trio residents of Dera Baba Nanak in Batala.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that police teams have also recovered three pistols&mdash; including two .30 bore and one .32 bore, one hand grenade and one drone from their possession. Further investigations are ongoing to establish forward and backward linkages in this case, he added.
Sharing more details, CP Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that acting on credible inputs about the module&rsquo;s activities, Amritsar Commissionerate has launched an intel-based operation and arrested all the accused persons from different areas including Ramdas area of Amritsar Rural, Batala and Amritsar City. Recoveries were effected from village Khana Chamara in Dera Baba Nanak, Village Awaan in Ramdas and Vallah area of Amritsar city, he added.
The CP said that with arrest of accused persons Basant Singh and Amanpreet Singh alias Aman, Amristar Commissionerate Police has also solved the case of an attack on a police officer&rsquo;s residence in Batala, which took place on November 28, 2024.&nbsp;
He said that police teams have also identified another main operative of this module and police teams are on manhunt to apprehend him.
A case FIR No. 191 dated 03.12.2024 has been registered under sections 111(1), 111(2), 111(3), 111(4), 249 and 253 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), sections 13, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and sections 25(6) and 25(7) of the Arms Act at Police Station Cantonment, Amritsar.

Security forces on Monday launched a massive cordon and search operation to track down terrorists responsible for the attack on a passenger bus in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district that left nine people dead, officials said.
The bus carrying pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh and Delhi plunged into a deep gorge after an ambush by terrorists on Sunday evening.
The terrorists opened fire at the 53-seater bus when it was en route from Shiv Khori temple to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine at Katra near Teryath village in Poni area and it plunged into the deep gorge following the gunfire.
Security forces, including the Army, police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), have laid multi-dimensional cordon of the Teryath-Poni-Shiv Khori area bordering Rajouri district, they said Armed with surveillance equipment, including drones and sniffer dogs, a massive combing operation has begun in the area and adjoining areas of the district, the officials said.
Terrorists involved in the attack are believed to be hiding in the upper reaches of neighbouring Rajouri and Reasi, the sources said, adding the area has dense forest belts and deep gorge.
"Search operation has been launched in the area", Senior Superintendent of Police, Reasi, Mohita Sharma said.
The village defence committees have also been geared up in the area, she added.
Officials said over 40 people were injured in the attack and 10 of them sustained bullet wounds.

Twenty-two years after the 2001 terrorist attack on Parliament, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other leaders gathered paid tribute to the fallen soldiers.
Opposition leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, TMC MP Derek O'Brien and other leaders also gathered at the Parliament to pay tributes.
On the occasion, Modi and Dhankhar met the family members of the fallen jawans.
In a post on X, President Droupadi Murmu said the nation will forever be indebted to the brave security personnel who laid down their lives in the 2001 terror attack on Parliament, and asked all to reiterate the pledge to wipe out terrorism.
