A tailor was arrested on Monday for allegedly kidnapping a nine-year-old boy for ransom of Rs 23 lakh with which he wanted to build a house and murdering him in Thane district of Maharashtra, police said.
The boy, identified only as Ibadat, went missing when he was returning from a mosque in Goregaon village where he had gone for evening prayers on Sunday.
Prima facie, the accused is known to the victim. He probably lured the victim to accompany him under some pretext, a Badlapur police station official said.
Police are investigating the exact circumstances under which the boy was kidnapped.
"The kidnapper called up the family of the boy and demanded Rs 23 lakh for releasing him. He told them that he wanted money to build a house. Strangely, he disconnected the call abruptly," the official said.
Police launched a search for the boy after receiving the complaint on Sunday but failed to trace him or the kidnapper.
"On Monday afternoon, Ibadat's body was found stuffed in a sack hidden in the home of a villager," the official said.
However, it is not clear whether the arrested accused was the same villager or someone else.
Police have registered an FIR under section 364 (Kidnapping or abducting in order to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), said Badlapur police station assistant inspector Govind Patil.
He said the accused is a tailor from the same locality of Goregaon village in Badalpur of Thane district.

"The workers had finished water-proofing work and entered the lift at the 40th floor when the lift came crashing down at around 7:30 pm and landed in P3 (three levels underground in the parking area)," he said.
The building is located off the Ghodbunder Road.
Prima facie, one of the supporting cables of the construction lift snapped, leading to the incident which occurred at around 5:30 pm, he added.
After receiving the information, a team of Regional Disaster Management Cell and Fire Brigade personnel rushed to the spot and pulled out the workers from the basement parking.
"It was immediately not clear how the lift cable malfunctioned," Tadvi added.
The deceased labourers have been identified as Mahendra Choupal (32), Rupesh Kumar Das (21), Harun Sheikh (47), Mithlesh Vishwakarma (35), Kari Das (38), and Navin Vishwakarma.&nbsp;

A team rushed to the spot and found the decomposed body of the woman which was cut into several pieces, said the official.
He said police have taken into custody two suspects and they are being interrogated.

Amid heavy rains across Maharashtra, a house collapse was reported in Palghar district and boulders fell from a hillock in Thane, according to officials. They added that no casualty was reported so far.

In Palghar, district adminstration said that a mud house collapsed in Wada taluka on Monday following heavy rains. Occupants of the house were removed once cracks were observed in the house and within minutes, the house collapsed.
The house was constructed last year under a government scheme for the poor, according to the district administration.
 The IMD on Tuesday issued a heavy rainfall alert for Maharashtra over the next four days, following which Chief Minister Eknath Shinde directed the state administration officials to take precautions and ensure there is no loss of life or property.
The Kundalika river in Raigad district, located near Mumbai, has crossed the danger mark, as per an official statement.

Power being restored in phases in Mumbai: BMC

Power has been restored in many parts of Mumbai including Worli, Dadar, Kalina and Charni Road after Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced that electricity will be back in phases in the financial capital within minutes.
A blackout of over 2 hours was reported in Mumbai on Monday with residents taking to Twitter to report power cut across the city, Navi Mumbai and Thane.
Multiple tripping of lines and transformers affected 360 MW supply in the city and suburbs. As the city came to a standstill, Mumbai University announced that it has deferred Monday's exam to Sunday, October 18.
The local trains under Western Railway &mdash; between Church Gate to Vasai railway station &mdash; have come to a standstill due to grid failure. The Central Railway (CR) that runs between CSMT and Kalyan has also been stopped.
However, both National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) said that there is no stoppage in trading despite power failure. Amid the blackout, shares of Tata Power crashed by two percent.

CW Projects - Mumbai Ahemdabad High Speed Rail

Railways is one of the most efficient and cheapest methods of speedily transporting people and goods. The Mumbai-Ahemdabad high speed rail corridor is an under construction high speed rail line connecting Mumbai in Maharashtra and Ahmedabad in Gujarat. Upon completion it will be India's premier high speed rail line. The high speed rail project between Ahmedabad and Mumbai covers the total distance of 508 km, 55.6 km of the proposal alignment falls in Maharashtra, 350.5 kilometers in Gujarat and 2 kilometers in the union territories of Dadra &amp; Nagar Haveli. The high speed rail is expected to run at an average speed of 320 kilometers per hour going as fast as 350 kilometers per hour. It will stop at 12 railway stations including Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand/Nadia, Ahemdabad and Sabarmati for 165 seconds each. The train is designated with two categories of seats - Executive and Economy. 471 kilometers of the corridor is to be elevated and there is a construction plan for a 21 kilometer underground tunnel between Thane and Virar of which seven kilometers will be under sea. The expected total journey time is approximately two hours and seven minutes. The corridor were used 24 Shinkansen E5 series of the Japanese railways as its rolling stop, six of which are going to be assembled in India. The trains will be adapted to function under Indian wheather to withstand temperatures exceeding 50 degrees Celsius. This will be done through the use of special cooling systems and air conditioners. Air conditioners and blowers in the high speed rail will be fitted with fine mesh dust filters to prevent dust from getting in. The shinkansen train will be modified further to make extra space by removing a few seats from the last coat of each train for storing heavy luggage. These trains will come equipped with multipurpose rooms that include foldable beds for feeding mothers and patients. The rooms will also be furnished with mirrors and baggage racks. In 2012 the ministry of trailways established the high-speed rail corporation of India limited for the development and execution of high speed rail projects. The feasibility of the project was assessed by the Japan international cooperation agency and the ministry of railways in 2013. The government also set up a special purpose vehicle - The National High Speed Rail Corporation in February 2016 to implement the project of high speed rail corridor from Mumbai to Ahmedabad. The total cost of the project is valued at approximately 17 billion dollars. 85% of the total cost is funded by the Japan international cooperation agency as loan at an interest rate of 0.1% for the moratorium of 15 years and repayment period of 50 years. The leftover cost will be sustained by the state government of Maharashtra and Gujarat. As of July 2020, 60% of the required land has been acquired. A tender for 28 steel divers have been allocated while the rest are underway. As per the terms of the loan agreement with the Japan international cooperation agency signaling equipment and power systems for the corridor will be imported from Japan. The corridor is expected to make its first run on August 15, 2022 on account of India 75th independence day. The marker of any good economy is the development of its transport system. With more high-speed rail corridor plans underway India is on its way to set a benchmark for an intricate transport network in the South Asian region.
