The killings in the capital Port-au-Prince were overseen by a powerful gang leader convinced that his son's illness was caused by followers of the religion, according to civil organization the Committee for Peace and Development (CPD).
It was the latest act of extreme violence by powerful gangs that control most of the capital city in the impoverished Caribbean country mired for decades in political instability, natural disasters and other woes.
"He decided to cruelly punish all elderly people and voodoo practitioners who, in his imagination, would be capable of sending a bad spell on his son," a statement from the Haiti-based group said.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the "horrific" violence, which his spokesman said left at least 184 people, including 127 elderly men and women, dead.
Calling the bloody episode an "act of barbarity, of unbearable cruelty," the office of Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aime said "this monstrous crime constitutes a direct attack on humanity."
Both the CPD and UN said that the killings took place in the capital's western coastal neighborhood of Cite Soleil.
Reached by telephone by AFP, a resident confirmed the attacks and said that his 76-year-old father was among the victims.
"The bandits set fire to his body. The family cannot even organize a burial for him since we were unable to recover the body," he told AFP on condition of anonymity so as not to compromise the safety of other relatives.
"I also fear for their lives," he said. "I will try to get them out."

- Taken to be 'executed' - &nbsp; "The gang's soldiers were responsible for identifying victims in their homes to take them to the chief's stronghold to be executed," the CPD said.
"Reliable sources within the community report that more than a hundred people were massacred, their bodies mutilated and burned in the street," it said.
One of the organization's leaders, Fritznel Pierre, told Radio Magik 9 in an interview that the number of casualties was not exhaustive, as the area was difficult to access.
He reported that henchmen had hunted down old people and voodoo followers living in the Wharf Jeremie section of Cite Soleil between Friday evening and Saturday.
"Motorcycle taxi drivers who tried to flee with targeted people were also executed," he said.
Voodoo was brought to Haiti by African slaves and is a mainstay of the country's culture. It was banned during French colonial rule and only recognized as an official religion by the Haitian government in 2003.
While it incorporates elements of other religious beliefs, including Catholicism, voodoo has been historically attacked by other religions.
Haiti has suffered from decades of instability but the situation escalated in February when armed groups launched coordinated attacks in the capital to overthrow then-prime minister Ariel Henry.
Gangs now control 80 percent of the city. Despite a Kenyan-led police support mission, backed by the United States and UN, violence has continued to soar.
The UN chief called on authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the weekend massacre and also reiterated calls for more international support to assist Haitian police in their battle against the gangs.
More than 700,000 people are internally displaced in Haiti, half of them children; added to this are 5,000 forced from their homes by the weekend massacre, said the International Organization for Migration.
The latest killings bring the death toll this year in Haiti to around 5,000 people, according to the United Nations.

Violent clashes broke out in central Dublin on Thursday evening, with vehicles torched and riot police attacked, after a five-year-old girl was seriously injured in a knife attack earlier in the day that also saw a woman and two other young children hospitalised.
Irish police said the girl was receiving emergency medical treatment in a Dublin hospital following the attack outside a school. Soon after that announcement, at least 100 people took to the streets, some armed with metal bars and covering their faces.
Police said over 400 officers including many in riot gear, were deployed in Dublin city centre to contain the unrest, which they said was "caused by a small group of thugs".
A police cordon was also set up around the Irish Parliament building, Leinster House, and officers from the Mounted Support Unit were in nearby Grafton Street.
There were clashes with riot police as some demonstrators let off flares and fireworks, while others grabbed chairs and stools outside bars and restaurants.
A number of police vehicles and a tram were damaged during the disorder, while a bus and car were also set on fire on the city's O'Connell Bridge.
Shop windows were routinely smashed and a Foot Locker store was looted. All public transport in the city -- trams and buses -- was suspended and many firms have urged their staff to work from home on Friday.
"We have a complete lunatic hooligan faction driven by far-right ideology, and also then this disruptive tendency engaged in serious violence," said Ireland's top police officer, Drew Harris.
Police and politicians called for calm and warned against misinformation over the attack earlier in the day.
"The scenes we are witnessing this evening in our city centre cannot and will not be tolerated," said Justice Minister Helen McEntee. "A thuggish and manipulative element must not be allowed to use an appalling tragedy to wreak havoc." Earlier, police said a man in his 50s, who also was seriously injured, is a "person of interest" in their investigation. No other details about his identity were revealed.
At a press briefing in the evening, Harris was asked about a potential terrorist link, and he didn't rule it out.
"I have never ruled out any possible motive for this attack ... all lines of inquiry are open to determine the motive for this attack," he said.
That appeared to be a slight change in stance from earlier when Superintendent Liam Geraghty said police were keeping an open mind in terms of the investigation but were "satisfied there is no terrorist link".
A woman in her 30s also suffered serious injuries during the knife attack shortly after 1.30 pm. The two other children, a five-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl, sustained less serious injuries. and the boy was discharged from a hospital.
Geraghty said at a media briefing that preliminary indications are that a man attacked a number of people on Parnell Square East.
He said that police believe that it was "a standalone incident, not necessarily connected to any wider issues that are ongoing in the country or in the city, and we need to identify the exact reasons for that happening".
Geraghty confirmed earlier witness reports that a knife was used in the attack, but he couldn't provide more details on the nature of the injuries. He also confirmed that witnesses sought to disarm the man as soon as they saw what was going on.
"My understanding is members of the public did intervene at a very, very early stage and we would applaud those members of the public for getting involved in such a traumatic and potentially dangerous situation for themselves," Geraghty said.

&nbsp;The Supreme Court Thursday reserved its order on the bail plea of Union Minister Ajay Kumar Mishra's son, who is one of the accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case.
A bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice J K Maheshwari heard submissions from Additional Advocate General for Uttar Pradesh Garima Prashad, and senior advocates Mukul Rohatgi and Dushyant Dave.
"We will pass orders," the bench said.
Opposing the bail plea, Prashad the top court that the crime was grave.
"It is a grave and heinous crime and (granting bail) will send a wrong signal to society," she said.
Senior advocate Dushyant Dave, appearing for those opposing the bail plea, said grant of bail will send a terrible message to society.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Mishra, strongly opposed Dave's submission and submitted that his client has been in custody for more than a year and the way the trial is going, it will take seven to eight years to complete it. &nbsp;He said that Jagjeet Singh, who is the complainant in the case, is not an eyewitness and his complaint is just based on hearsay.

Leaders of the Hindu and Muslim communities in the eastern England city of Leicester presented a united front on Tuesday as they appealed for harmony in the wake of violent clashes following an India-Pakistan cricket match, which has led to 47 arrests.
Pradyumna Das, President of the city's ISKCON Temple, read out a statement joined by community leaders outside a mosque in the city to express “sadness” over the violence which escalated over the weekend.
The community leaders demanded that the “inciters of hatred” leave Leicester alone and called for an immediate cessation of provocation and violence, both in thought and behaviour.
“Our message to anyone that sows disharmony between us is clear: we will not let you succeed. We ask all to respect the sanctity of religious places, both mosques and mandirs alike — whether provocation with loud music, flag bearing, derogatory chants or physical attacks against the fabric of worship. This is not acceptable nor upheld by our faiths,” the statement said.
“We are a strong family, we will work together to resolve whatever concern may arise — we do not need to call up any assistance from outside our city. Leicester has no place for any foreign extremist ideology that causes division,” he said, highlighting that Hindus and Muslims have lived “harmoniously” in the city for over half a century.

There was no ongoing threat to the public.
The chief said a school resource officer responded within about 20 seconds of receiving word of the attack around 7 a.m., and a student suspect was taken into custody. The attack happened inside the school in a common area, and many students witnessed the attack, the police chief said. He declined to release names.
A lockdown lasted until 8:45 a.m., after which the school began a dismissal process to release students to their parents. Nearly all students had left with their parents by the time police held a midmorning news conference.
All sporting events and activities have been cancelled, and Friday will be a virtual school day. School will resume in person on Tuesday.

Reiterating India's 'zero tolerance to violence' stand, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi slammed former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for signing an agreement with Pakistan on terrorism within months of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in 2008.&nbsp;
Addressing a session on 'Contemporary Challenges to Internal Security' in Kochi on Sunday, the Tamil Nadu Governor said, "When the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks happened, the whole country was traumatised; the country was humiliated by a handful of terrorists. Within 9 months of the attacks, our then PM and Pakistan PM signed a joint communique stating both countries were victims of terrorism."&nbsp;
"Do we have Sathrubodh? Is Pakistan a friend or an enemy? That has to be clear. If you try to be in between, you have confusion," he added.&nbsp;
In 2008, 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists (LeT) carried out 12 coordinated shooting and bombing attacks killing at least 174 people and leaving 300 wounded.&nbsp;
Speaking about the surgical strike as a befitting reply to Pakistan, he said, "After the Pulwama attack, we hit back at Pakistan in Balakot using our air power. The message was that if you commit an act of terrorism you will have to pay the cost."&nbsp;
According to him, India's internal security at present is better than what it was during Manmohan Singh's rule.&nbsp;
"During the time of Manmohan Singh, the serious threat to our internal security was the Maoist violence. They had spread to over 185 districts across central India. And people were even talking about the Red Corridor. The situation was alarming. Today, their presence is limited to less than 8 districts and that too at a much-reduced pace," he claimed.&nbsp;

Neutralisation of the terrorists has been possible not because our system has improved dramatically, but largely because of people's cooperation. People have started rejecting the terrorists and cooperating with the system to normalise the situation."&nbsp;
Speaking on Kashmir, Governor Ravi said, "There is zero tolerance to violence. It may sound harsh but anyone who uses a gun should be dealt with a gun. No negotiation with anyone who talks against the unity and integrity of the country. There have been no talks with any armed group in the last 8 years, if only for surrender."&nbsp;
"In Jammu &amp; Kashmir, they have killed thousands of people and then Yasin Malik, a JKLF man will come to Delhi and he will shake hands with the Prime Minister. Hurriyat was the brain behind leading this. In the northeast, people killed hundreds of people and then we started talking to them and asked them to stop the violence. No negotiation, no talk with anyone who talks against the unity and integrity of our country.&nbsp;
"No question, no acceptance. It took time for the message to sink in. In the last 8 years, there has not been one negotiation, no talk with any of the armed groups. If it's a conversation, it is only for surrendering and rehabilitation, with no political content," stated the Governor.&nbsp;

Sweden continues to remain in news after fierce riots sparked by a political party's plan to burn the Quran.&nbsp;The Swedish government has condemned the violence, while claiming that the Quran burning events are freedom of speech, even if in "bad taste".
So, who is behind the provocative programmes, leading to violence by counter-protestors?&nbsp;The events have been planned by a Danish far-right political party called 'Stram Kurs', or Hard Line. Stram Kurs has been accused of creating divisions by following an anti-Islam, and anti-immigrant ideology.
The party is led by Rasmus Paludan, a Danish-Swedish politician and lawyer.&nbsp;40-year-old Paludan has been convicted in the past for making racial insults, as per reports. In 2020, he had reportedly been arrested in France, and deported.&nbsp;Paludan has reportedly burned copies of the Quran in the past too.
He is reportedly planning to contest the legislative elections in Sweden in September 2022.&nbsp;He is yet to secure the necessary number of signatures to confirm his candidature in the Swedish elections, according to reports.
