The economic impact of flooding was the highest in China at 18.4 billion USD, followed by India at 3.2 billion USD and Thailand at 0.6 billion USD, the report added.

Asia hotter than global average in 2021: WMO report

The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) in its latest report stated that Asia was warmer than the rest of the world with its average temperature in 2021 about 0.86 degree celsius higher than the average of year 1981-2010.

While for the global average, recorded temperature was about 0.42 degreee celsius higher than 1981-2010.

WMO's State of Climate report highlighted that the year 2021 was cooler for Asia than 2020. However more than 100 weather-related disasters resulted in over 4000 deaths and massive economic losses and deaths.

The economic impact of flooding was the highest in China at 18.4 billion USD, followed by India at 3.2 billion USD and Thailand at 0.6 billion USD, the report added.

While for cyclones, and storms the damage has been significant in India at 4.4 billion USD, followed by China at 3.0 bilion USD and Japan at 2 billion USD.

The economic losses from the natural calamities as per the report amount to over 35 billion USD in 2021, including 7.5 billion in India.
