<p>NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar has praised the RSS for dedication to its ideology and urged his party to create a worker base with commitment to progressive thoughts of Shahu Maharaj, Mahatma Phule, BR Ambedkar and political stalwart Yeshwantrao Chavan.</p>
<p>Addressing party workers at a meeting in south Mumbai on Thursday, the former Union minister noted the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has committed cadres who show unwavering loyalty to the Hindutva organisation's ideology and do not deviate from their path at any cost.</p>
<p>&ldquo;We, too, should have such a cadre base which is committed to the ideology of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, Mahatma Phule, BR Ambedkar and Yashwantrao Chavan,&rdquo; Pawar said.</p>
<p>Reflecting on the Nationalist Congress Party (SP)&rsquo;s severe drubbing in the November assembly polls in Maharashtra, he said, &ldquo;We became complacent after the Lok Sabha election success, while the ruling alliance (BJP-led Mahayuti) took immediate steps to contain its reverses in the parliamentary polls.&rdquo;</p>
<p>The Sharad Pawar-led party put up a good performance in the Lok Sabha polls in Maharashtra held in April-May, winning eight of the 10 seats it contested. However, in the November assembly polls, the party could win just 10 of the nearly 90 seats where it fielded candidates.</p>
<p>&ldquo;We failed to communicate to the OBCs (a major vote bank) what we did for their uplift,&rdquo; the former CM noted.</p>
<p>He stressed the need for social engineering to end the caste divide in Marathwada, the epicentre of the Maratha quota movement, especially after the death of a Dalit man in judicial custody in Parbhani district and the brutal murder of a village sarpanch in Beed district.</p>
<p>Both districts are located in Marathwada, a region in central Maharashtra.</p>
<p>&ldquo;Such a situation prevailed even during the Marathwada university renaming controversy, but I went to the university and interacted with all stakeholders," recalled Pawar, who was the Maharashtra CM at the time.</p>
<p>Similar steps for engaging with people and social engineering strategy were needed now, he asserted.</p>
<p>Pawar declared that 50 per cent of the tickets will be allotted by his party to new faces for upcoming local bodies elections in the state.</p>
<p>He also indicated that the organisation will be overhauled to strengthen the party.</p>
<p>The NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) is a key constituent of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).</p>

<p>Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday highlighted the various initiatives undertaken in the state, reaffirming the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the "Devbhoomi" this month.</p>
<p>Uttarakhand is the first state in the country to have UCC Act, which seeks to establish a uniform and an equal set of rules on marriage, divorce, succession and inheritance for all citizens in the state, except the Scheduled Tribes (STs), irrespective of religion. It makes registration of all marriages and live-in relationships mandatory.</p>
<p>"We have formulated the Uniform Civil Code law in Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. This is the state's first honour and will be implemented within this month," Dhami said during the inauguration of the 29th Uttarayani Mela in Bareilly.</p>
<p>He compared the UCC to India's sacred rivers such as Sharda, Ganga, Saraswati and Kaveri, stating that just as they sustain life across the country, the UCC will work similarly.</p>
<p>Regarding the state's tourism and infrastructure initiatives, Dhami said, "In Haridwar and Rishikesh, we are planning to develop the Ganga Corridor. Work on a corridor along the Sharda River has also begun."</p>
<p>He added that Uttarakhand continues to see an increasing influx of devotees and tourists which would be bolstered by the reconstruction efforts in Kedarnath and the master plan underway at Badrinath Dham.</p>
<p>Dhami also announced beautification and restoration efforts for temples in the Kumaon region and development at Purnagiri.</p>
<p>"It gives me immense joy that more devotees from Uttar Pradesh visit Purnagiri. We are creating the Sharda Corridor, which will enhance the ghats and beautify the area," he said.</p>
<p>The chief minister expressed hope for Uttarakhand becoming a hub for destination weddings and tourism, emphasising the state's growing reputation.</p>

<p>Dhami mentioned initiatives to combat "land jihad", stating that 5,000 acres of encroached land have been freed. He also discussed tackling issues like "spit jihad" with new laws to maintain public order.</p>

<p>An expert committee formed by Dhami and headed by retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai submitted a comprehensive draft in four volumes to the state government in February 2024.</p>
<p>Acting on the draft, the state government presented the Uttarakhand Uniform Civil Code Bill in the Assembly a few days later and it was passed on February 7.</p>
<p>The UCC Act received President Droupadi Murmu's approval on March 11, making the hill state the first in independent India to have a UCC Act.</p>
<p>A nine-member state government-appointed panel, chaired by former chief secretary Singh to lay down the rules for the UCC's implementation panel, submitted its final report. Dhami has previously said in no unclear terms that the UCC will be implemented in January.</p>

<p>Hundreds of devotees turned up from across the country for the 10-day Vaikunta Dwara Darshanam commencing from January 10.</p>
<p>"Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu comforted devotees who were injured in yesterday&rsquo;s (Wednesday) stampede at SVIMS (Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS)," said an official statement.</p>
<p>The CM spent 90 minutes in the hospital with the injured devotees. He visited one patient after the others and heard their grievances.</p>
<p>Earlier, Naidu visited the accident site where the stampede claimed six lives and injured many.</p>

<p>A special court criticized the CBI's arrest of ED official Vishal Deep, citing critical procedural lapses. Deep was released on a personal bond of Rs 50,000 after the court ruled the charges against him were not well founded.</p>

<p>A special court has pointed out significant procedural errors in the arrest of Vishal Deep, an Enforcement Directorate (ED) official, by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over alleged bribery. The court ordered his immediate release.</p>
<p>Special Judge B Y Phad rejected the CBI's request for transit remand, finding the allegations against Deep &ldquo;not well-founded.&rdquo; Deep, the assistant director of the ED&rsquo;s Shimla unit, was arrested on Tuesday in Mumbai for allegedly demanding a Rs 1.1 crore bribe from Rajnish Bansal, chairman of the Himalayan group of professional institutions, in exchange for not arresting him in an ongoing money laundering probe.</p>
<p>The court noted that the CBI failed to produce the case diary, a critical document for transparency and procedural legitimacy. This, the judge said, undermines the prosecution's case. The court also pointed out the failure of the investigation officer to serve an arrest warrant, making the arrest &ldquo;procedurally unsound.&rdquo;</p>
<p>The judge found that the CBI&rsquo;s actions were marked by several fundamental lapses, including procedural violations and inconsistencies, which led to the ruling that Deep&rsquo;s detention was illegal. Deep was granted release on a personal recognizance bond of Rs 50,000.</p>
<p>The CBI had alleged that Deep received a bribe of Rs 60 lakh near Panchkula in Haryana on December 22, 2024, and then evaded authorities by changing his location and phone. He was eventually traced and arrested in Mumbai on Tuesday.</p>

<p>The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches across multiple states, including Bihar, targeting premises linked to an RJD MLA, in connection with a money laundering investigation. The investigation concerns an alleged embezzlement of funds at the Vaishali Shahri Vikas (VSV) Cooperative Bank, with about Rs 85 crore reportedly misappropriated.</p>
<p>The ED conducted searches at 18 locations, including in Bihar, West Bengal (Kolkata), Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi. Among the locations searched were those tied to RJD MLA and former Bihar minister Alok Kumar Mehta, who is also the promoter of the VSV Cooperative Bank.</p>
<p>The money laundering probe follows a series of FIRs filed by the state police against the bank and its office-bearers for alleged financial misconduct. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had previously conducted a verification of the bank and identified the diversion of funds.</p>
<p>Mehta, a senior leader of the Lalu Prasad Yadav-led Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), represents Ujiarpur in the Bihar Assembly. He has also served as the state's minister for revenue and land reforms. No immediate comment has been made by him or the party regarding the searches.</p>

<p>Delhi airport operator DIAL on Friday said the four-decade-old Terminal 2 (T2) will be closed for four to six months in the next financial year for refurbishment works that are expected to be completed in the September quarter. The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in the national capital, which is also the country's busiest airport, has three terminals -- T1, T2 and T3. Currently, T1 and T2 are used only for domestic flights. The refurbishment works of T2 are set to commence in 2025-26 with an expected completion date in Q2 of FY26, Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) said in a release. The financial year starts from April 1, 2025. "Terminal 2 will undergo a temporary shutdown for approximately 4 to 6 months to complete these improvements. "The temporary closure of Terminal 2 is expected to cause minimal disruption to operations, as the newly developed Terminal 1 will absorb the additional load, ensuring continued service to passengers," the release said. T2 was constructed 40 years ago by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). "The decades-old terminal will undergo significant upgrades aimed at elevating the passenger experience and increasing the airport's capacity to meet future growth demands," the release said. DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said the refurbishment of the four-decade-old T2 is the need of the hour. He also said the overall passenger experience will be enhanced by upgrading key infrastructure, improving operational efficiency, and elevating passenger comfort. "With the terminal's projected passenger capacity expected to reach its peak by FY 2025-26, these enhancements will be crucial in supporting the growing demand for air travel, particularly for domestic passengers," he noted. The airport handles around 1,300 flight movements daily.&nbsp;</p>
