Red Bull plane swap crash: USA's FAA had denied exemption request, say reports, after stunt goes wrong

Videos emerged of a Red Bull-sponsored stunt going wrong on April 24. The stunt involved two pilots jumping out of their planes and switching aircraft while being airborne.

However, Andy Farrington and Luke Aikins' plane swap went wrong in the final attempt. While Aikins managed to successfully complete his part of the stunt, Farrington was not so lucky.

One of the planes went into a tailspin, eventually crashing, and Farrington had to descend to earth using a parachute. The plane crashed near Eloy, which lies southeast of Phoenix in Arizona.

Authorities said they were investigating the crash. Meanwhile, the Federal Aviation Administration said that it had denied the organisers' request for an exemption from regulations regarding safe operation of airplanes.
