UK-India trade deal: British minister says 'no commitment on immigration'

The Free Trade Agreement between India and UK will not contain broader immigration commitments or access to Britain's labour market for Indian workers, trade minister Kemi Badenoch said. Temporary business visas will however be on the table, she added.

Her comments were part of a written response to British MPs.

Badenoch also said that the UK govt will not agree to anything that undermines the principles or functioning of the country's points-based immigration system or which undermines its ability to control its own border.

The discussions over India-UK trade deal began in January 2022.
