One has always resonated with Bappi Lahiri's disco beats, which are always peppy and full of life.

The sudden demise of music legend Bappi Lahiri has left a gaping hole in the hearts of millions. Bappi Lahiri's career in the music industry spanned over fifty years and he was popularly known as 'Disco King'. Apart from his music, Lahiri was also famous for his look. He always sported heavy gold jewelry.

Born in Calcutta, West Bengal in 1952 into a family with a rich tradition in classical music, Bappi Lahiri began his career as a music director at 19. Apart from singing songs, he had also composed music and acted in a film.

Bappi Lahiri won hearts and many awards throughout his career that began in 1973. He was nominated for the Best Music Director for the Filmfare Awards 6 times between 1982-2018.

His first Filmfare nomination came in 1982 for 'Armaan'. He was then again nominated for Best Music Director in 1983. In 1985, the singer won his first Filmfare award for Best Music Director for 'Sharaabi'.

Bappi Lahiri was once again nominated for his contribution to films like 'Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki', 'Tohfa', 'Aaj Ka Arjun' in the subsequent years. The singer was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018.

Bappi Lahiri won Mirchi Music Award in 2012 for Best Item Song of the Year for 'Ooh La La'.

Though he rose to fame for his disco-style songs, Bappi da had also lent his voice to many melodious numbers in films such as 'Chalte Chalte' and 'Zakhmee'.
