SRK gets Y+ security cover amid ‘imminent and probable’ threats

Actor Shah Rukh Khan’s security cover has been scaled up by the Maharashtra government in view of ‘imminent and probable’ threats to the actor.

According to The Indian Express, the Maharashtra State Intelligence Department (SID), in an official communication dated October 5, informed all the police commissioners, district police, and special protection units (SPUs) in the state to provide ‘Y+ with an escort scale of security to Khan with immediate effect’.

Police sources in Mumbai have refused to divulge the nature of the ‘threat’ the actor is facing.

The decision was reportedly taken following a high-power committee meeting in which threats and security to the actor were reviewed.

SRK will get 11 security personnel, including six commandos, four police personnel and a traffic clearance vehicle in the Y+ category. A police source told The Indian Express that the policemen would be posted at his bungalow Mannat.

The security cover will reportedly be on a payment basis and will be there until the next high-level committee recommendation and review committee decision.

Earlier this year, after the release of ‘Pathaan’s song ‘Besharam Rang’, Paramhans Acharya, an Ayodhya-based seer, had allegedly issued death threats to the actor.

In August, security was stepped up outside SRK’s bungalow after protests against celebrities endorsing online gaming apps, stressing that such endorsements misguide and corrupt the younger generation.

Shah Rukh Khan’s security was increased in 2010 too after he received threats following the release of his film ‘My Name is Khan’.

The actor’s name was also in the news after Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Mumbai zonal head and IRS officer Sameer Wankhede allegedly revealed his WhatsApp chat conversation with SRK pertaining to the release of his son Aryan Khan.

Aryan was arrested during an NCB raid on the Cordelia cruise ship off the Mumbai coast on October 3, 2021. He was granted bail after 25 days.
