Taapsee Pannu’s honest and upfront statements

Here are some noteworthy statements made by Taapsee Pannu.

Taapsee Pannu’s honest and upfront statements

Taapsee Pannu, who made her acting debut in 2010, has carved out a niche for herself in the industry. She is known for voicing her opinions on key issues and giving befitting replies to the trolls.

Here’s a look at some of the statements made by the actor.

On her tiff with Kangana Ranaut

Taapsee Pannu and Kangana Ranaut engaged in a war of words in 2019 when the former retweeted Ekta Kapoor’s post, sharing the ‘Judgemental Hai Kya’ trailer and wrote: ‘This is so cool!!!! Always had high expectations out of this one n this looks so worth it!’

Unhappy to see that the actor missed mentioning Kangana’s name, her sister Rangoli lashed out in a tweet over Taapsee’s ‘double filter’ comment about Kangana.

During the media interaction to promote her upcoming film ‘Mission Mangal’, Taapsee Pannu refused to apologise for her remark and said that she did not reply to Rangoli because she does not matter in her scheme of things.

‘Why should I pay attention to people who do not matter to me? They are taking time out to say things to me, meaning I matter to them. Everyone knows how to bully, and even I know how to answer back. But there is a certain use of language and vocabulary that I have not learned and I never will. So, I answered in my way,’ she said

Struggle as a newcomer

During the promotion her 2017 film 'Naam Shabana', Taapsee talked about her struggle and success in the industry. She said that it has been a nice ‘up and down curve’ for her. The actor mentioned that the outcomes have been pretty interesting but the hard work and the stress that she has to go through has been pretty grilling.

‘I was a newcomer in Hindi film industry but I wasn't really a newcomer, I used to fight the battle of being a newcomer struggler for a very long time and I think I am still fighting that battle,’ she said.

House raided by the Income Tax department

In an interview with Filmfare in 2021, Taapsee Pannu talked about the Income Tax department raids against her and said that she has ‘nothing to fear’. She said her honesty gives her the confidence to be fearless. She mentioned that when you build everything from scratch over a period of time you don’t have to make extra effort to protect it.

‘When you start from scratch and build everything, including this impression people have of me, over a period of time with hard work, and not by fluke, you don’t have to make an extra effort to protect it. By now, people can see this is who I am; it’s not a facade. I don’t have skeletons in my cupboard, she said.

On being called masculine

Taapsee Pannu was called out for her physicality and termed ‘masculine’ when the trailer of her 2021 film ‘Rashmi Rocket’ was unveiled. She took to her social media to give a befitting reply to those who objectified her. She wrote that there are many women who actually hear this daily for no fault of theirs. Taapsee further gave an ode to all athletes who give their sweat and blood to the sport and their nation and still get to hear this.

On pay parity in the industry

In an interview with Times of India, Taapsee Pannu criticized the concept of gender-based wage differentiation in Bollywood. Revealing that a hero’s salary is equal to the entire budget of a women-driven film, she further mentioned that she has been asked to reduce her salary in a women-centric film.

‘I have no complaints about the roles or the money I am getting. The only complaint I have is the lack of pay parity. A hero's salary is equal to the entire budget of a women-driven film. Usme bhi mujhe bola jaata hai, aap thoda kam charge kar lo na. Cost-cutting karenge kyunki yeh women-centric film hai, mainstream nahin. These things hurt a bit. (Even there, I am asked to reduce my salary in a women-centric film),’ she said.
