The crucial INDIA bloc meeting on January 13 in New Delhi may have been a key moment for Nitish Kumar, who has always harboured prime ministerial ambitions, to rethink his position.

Recall, the meeting was held to discuss seat sharing among the Opposition parties, but a key player TMC chief Mamata Banerjee had given it a miss. Reports say as Nitish’s name was proposed for the post of convenor, it received widespread endorsement till Rahul Gandhi intervened.

The Gandhi scion had objected, stating that Mamata who has had bitter-sweet ties with Nitish would have reservation about the move. Rahul mother Sonia Gandhi and Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge didn’t intervene even as Nitish’s ally Tejashwi Yadav pointed out at majority support for the Bihar chief minister.

This, as per reports, Nitish perceived as an insurmountable obstacle to his goal of toppling Modi government. Reports said that Nitish felt that Rahul, instead of diplomatically addressing Mamata’s concerns, subjected him to humiliation during the meeting.
