Ahead of the October 30 Bihar bypolls, Rashtriya Janata Dal president Lalu Prasad Yadav on Sunday confirmed the end of its alliance with the Congress.

Slamming Congress' poor assembly poll performance, Lalu questioned if he was expected to give seats to Congress to lose.

Meanwhile, the Congress too has announced the end of the 'Mahagathbandhan', stating that it will contest on all 40 Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 elections.

The fight began when RJD refused to cede a single seat to ally Congress stating 'it won't be able to win any'.

The RJD’s decision to field its candidate from Kusheshwar Asthan, a seat from where the Congress had contested in the 2020 assembly polls, has upset the national party. The national party has accused RJD of conspiring with BJP against it.

The Congress’ poor show in the assembly polls compared to a much better strike rate of the RJD prompted some leaders of the Bihar party to question the national party’s role in the alliance.

The RJD believes that the Congress had been given more number of seats than its real strength in the state.
