The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has decided to release 450 more farmers from police detention as part of its considerate approach towards the farming community.

Providing details, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Headquarters Dr. Sukhchain Singh Gill stated on Monday that approximately 800 farmers had already been released from police custody.

He further emphasized that the Chief Minister has directed the immediate release of farmers, particularly women, differently-abled individuals, those with medical conditions, and those above 60 years of age. "In line with the directives of the Punjab government, we are prioritizing the release of such farmers, and about 450 farmers are being released today," he said.

Addressing concerns regarding farmers' belongings, the IGP assured that strict instructions had been issued to prevent any misappropriation.

“To resolve any grievances related to farmers' belongings, the Patiala district police has appointed SP-rank officer Jasbir Singh as the Nodal Officer. Farmers facing issues can directly contact SP Jasbir Singh at 90713-00002 for immediate assistance,” said Dr. Sukhchain Singh Gill, adding that Patiala Police has already registered three first information reports (FIRs) regarding such cases.
