      All England Championships: Lakshya Sen goes down fighting in the final against Viktor Axelsen

      Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen went down fighting in the men's singles final of the All England Championships on Sunday.

      Reining Olympic Champion Viktor Axelsen defeated 20-year-old Lakshya in a straight games.

      Lakshya was no match to the Danish shuttler as he earned his first point of the match after trailing by 6 points & lost the first game 21-10.

      Lakshya tried to stage a comeback in the second and engaged the opposition in long rallies, winning one point after 70 shots.

      However, Viktor showed immense balance on netplay and forehand smash and won the second game 21-15 after Sen showed stiff resistance against the match point.

      Though Lakshya's dream to win the All England Championship was cut short but it was a great learning curve for the young lad.

      He was only the fourth men's singles player to reach the final of the prestigious tournament. Earlier, Prakash Nath in 1947, Prakash Padukone and Pullela Gopichand had made it to the final of All England Championships. Saina Nehwal is the only Indian in the women's category to reach the final in 2015.


      Prakash Padukone in 1980 and Gopichand in 2001 are the only Indians who won the All England Championship title.
