Rural Development and Panchayats Minister, Tarunpreet Singh Sond, stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and the guidance of Arvind Kejriwal, the Punjab government has embarked on a historic mission to clean village ponds at an unprecedented scale since independence.
Addressing a press conference at Punjab Bhawan, Sond highlighted that past governments failed to address the needs of rural Punjab, with many ponds left unattended for 15 to 25 years. As a result, these ponds stink, and have become breeding ground for mosquitoes making it impossible for people around to live.
For the first time in history of Punjab, the Mann-led government has launched mass scale ponds rejuvenation exercise. Nearly 15000 ponds set to be cleaned within this year.
He further shared that around 1,100 ponds has already dewatered and nearly 400 ponds already desilted. Depending on the requirement, both desilting and re-silting operations are being carried out. The Minister recently conducted on-ground inspections in several villages of Fatehgarh Sahib district to personally oversee the progress. He will be visiting other districts to personally review all progress.
Many of these ponds, he said, had not been cleaned for decades, leading to overflow, foul odors, and mosquito breeding in the villages. Now, with this initiative, the Punjab government is actively working to reverse these conditions and create a cleaner, healthier environment, a concrete step toward realizing the vision of a &ldquo;Rangla Punjab.&rdquo; Sond revealed that the Punjab government has approved a budget of Rs. 4,573 crore for the holistic development of villages.
He further said that the government is focusing on upgrading rural infrastructure, including the maintenance and upkeep of village ponds and the development of playgrounds. Sewage treatment facilities are being ensured in villages to ensure sustainable wastewater management.
The proper care and rejuvenation of the pond are important for villages' economy and livelihoods.
The minister said that ahead of the monsoon season, the Punjab government will ensure desilting and re-silting from ponds wherever needed. This effort will also help recharge groundwater levels and contribute to addressing the issue of depleting underground water in the state.

The Amber Fort Palace was closed to the public from 12 pm on Monday to make preparations for the Vance family's visit. Traffic was rerouted to ensure that the stretch of road from Rambagh Palace Hotel to the fort remained clear for the VIP movement.
The Amber Fort is situated in the Aravalli mountain range, nearly 11 km from the centre of Jaipur. It is an extensive palace complex built with pale yellow, pink sandstone and white marble. The fort is divided into four main sections, each with its own courtyards.
Amber was the capital of the Kachhwaha Rajputs before they shifted their capital to Jaipur. Man Singh I started the construction of the new palace complex at the end of the 16th century.
After Raja Man Singh I, Mirza Raja Jai Singh I and Sawai Jai Singh II made some modifications, including to the interiors of the fort.
The fort was constructed in four stages, and the palace inside was the residence of the Rajput Maharajas and their families.
It consists of a 'Diwan-e-Aam' (hall of public audience), 'Diwan-e-Khaas' (hall of private audience), a 'Sheesh Mahal' (mirror palace) and a 'Sukh Niwas'.
In the Sheesh Mahal, numerous minuscule mirrors are placed on the walls in a unique arrangement. Even a single ray of light entering the palace gets reflected in a way that illuminates the entire hallway.
The Sukh Niwas is known for its distinctive cooling feature created by winds blowing over cascading water.

Under the current AAP government, Punjab has amassed Rs. 64,253 crore in GST over three years from 2022 to 2025, a significant improvement over the Rs. 21,286 crore collected during the Congress government's tenure from 2017 to 2022. "This reflects the greater transparency and efficiency of our administration," Cheema noted. He also mentioned the establishment of the Tax Intelligence Unit aimed at closely monitoring potential tax evaders and enforcing the law accordingly. Addressing questions on stamp and registration collections, Cheema reported that the AAP government collected Rs. 14,786 crore in just three years, surpassing the Congress government's five-year total of Rs. 12,469 crore. He attributed the increment to the current government's efforts to establish a transparent and accountable system. Cheema also criticized political opponents for their uproar over stringent measures against tax evasion, accusing them of complicity with evaders in the past. "The rising tax collection indicates a fully transparent system under our government, a stark contrast to previous administrations. Our department is committed to adopting all necessary measures to curb tax evasion," he concluded.

A workshop was held in Dehradun on Monday to mark National Public Relations Day, organized by the Dehradun Chapter of the Public Relations Society of India (PRSI). The workshop focused on the theme: "Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence: Role of Public Relations."
The event was inaugurated with a ceremonial lamp lighting by chief guest Banshidhar Tiwari, along with Nitin Upadhyay, Joint Director of Information; Vijay Thapliyal, CEO of Badrikedar Temple Committee; and Ravi Vijarania, President of PRSI Dehradun Chapter.
In his address, Banshidhar Tiwari highlighted the need to uphold human values amid rapid technological growth. He noted that while AI saves time, it&rsquo;s important to consider how that time is used. He urged people to stay connected to both social media and their communities, and to verify information before sharing it to avoid the spread of misinformation. He emphasized that although AI can generate content, personal thoughts and experiences are irreplaceable, and responsible use of AI is necessary.
Nitin Upadhyay remarked that new technologies always bring both challenges and opportunities. He stressed the importance of setting limits on AI usage and maintaining personal capability. In public relations, he said, AI should be a supportive tool, not a substitute. He also underlined the need for public awareness about AI&rsquo;s benefits and drawbacks.
Anupam Trivedi, Editor at News-18 Channel, said that while science offers conveniences, it also brings complications. The misuse of AI, particularly in spreading fake news, is a growing concern. He pointed out that in public relations, human connection is essential and irreplaceable by AI.
Vijay Thapliyal stated that while AI can provide many things, it cannot replicate human emotions. He encouraged people to see AI as both a boon and a challenge.
Technical expert Akash Sharma delivered a presentation on the responsible use of AI in public relations. He explained that AI enhances work efficiency rather than replacing humans. He introduced various AI tools such as ChatGPT, Canva AI, Google Forms, Mentimeter, SlidesAI, Buffer, Hootsuite, Meltwater, Brand24, Talkwalker, Google Alerts, Later, SocialBee, Mailchimp, and Hunter, which are useful in the PR field.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday addressed all District Magistrates through a virtual meeting, emphasizing the need for prompt resolution of public grievances to maintain transparency and accountability in the administrative system.
During a review of the Chardham Yatra preparations, the Chief Minister instructed that coordination be ensured with local public representatives, hoteliers, and other stakeholders to streamline arrangements.&nbsp;
He urged departmental secretaries and district officials to strengthen operational readiness for the upcoming pilgrimage, highlighting its significance both as a spiritual event and a source of livelihood for locals.
"The Chardham Yatra is a major centre of faith, and is also linked to the livelihood of the local people," he said.
CM Dhami directed officials to prioritize cleanliness, beautification, and improved passenger facilities along the Yatra routes. He underscored the importance of making the pilgrimage clean, beautiful, and environmentally friendly, calling for public participation in these efforts. He also instructed special attention to traffic management to ensure smooth movement for devotees and locals.
In light of potential forest fires, the Chief Minister directed all District Magistrates and the Forest Department to ensure full preparedness. This includes equipping fire-sensitive zones with the necessary tools, deploying mobile patrol and monitoring teams, and maintaining updated contact lists of local residents and public representatives for swift response.
On the issue of summer water scarcity, Dhami ordered that all drinking water problems be resolved swiftly and sufficient water tankers be deployed. He directed DMs to conduct regular meetings to address water supply challenges and take all necessary precautions ahead of the monsoon season. Additionally, he sought updates from the DMs on flood protection measures and asked for timely remedial actions in waterlogging-prone areas.
The Chief Minister also emphasized the importance of regular public hearings, urging officials to ensure citizens receive the maximum benefit from government schemes via Tehsil Diwas, BDC meetings, and multipurpose camps. He stressed that people should not have to visit offices unnecessarily and should be provided services through e-platforms as much as possible. He warned of disciplinary action against personnel responsible for unwarranted delays in public service delivery.
He also directed the swift resolution of complaints related to electricity billing and asked officials to accelerate the installation of smart meters.
Stressing state security, Dhami ordered close monitoring of outsiders and suspicious activities. He directed immediate suspension and termination proceedings against personnel found facilitating illegal encroachments or providing Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, or utility connections to ineligible individuals.
"This is a matter related to the security of the state, in which there will be no compromise," he stated firmly.
Lastly, CM Dhami asked both Divisional Commissioners to conduct field visits to verify implementation and submit a progress report to the Chief Minister&rsquo;s Office before the next review meeting.

With the registration figure of devotees reaching 17 lakh even before the start of Chardham Yatra, the Uttarakhand government on Monday decided to increase the limit of online registration to 75 per cent.
More registration counters on the yatra route of each dham will also be opened, the state government said.
Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey held a meeting here with hoteliers in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag and Chamoli regarding the preparations for the Chardham Yatra starting from April 30.
In the meeting, Pandey reviewed the preparations for the Chardham Yatra and also discussed in detail with the hoteliers for the successful conduct of the Yatra and took their suggestions.
This year's Chardham Yatra will begin with the opening of the doors of Gangotri and Yamunotri temples located in Uttarkashi district on April 30 on the festival of Akshaya Tritiya.
The portals of Kedarnath Dham will open on May 2 while the doors of Badrinath Dham will open on May 4.
In the meeting, the hoteliers requested the authorities to increase the limit of online registration. Earlier, the limit of online registration was 60 per cent and offline 40 per cent.
On the suggestion of the concerned district tourism officers and the request of the hoteliers, it was decided to increase the limit of online registration to 75 per cent by making a partial change in the earlier decision.
In view of the possibility of a huge crowd of devotees in the yatra, the hoteliers also requested to set up at least one more registration counter on the Yatra route of each Dham.
Pandey also accepted this demand and directed to open some more registration centers on the yatra routes.
Consent was given to open registration counters for Badrinath Dham in Gauchar, for Gangotri Dham in Heena and Uttarkashi, for Yamunotri Dham in Dobata and Damta and for Kedarnath Dham in Guptkashi.
The Garhwal Commissioner expected the hoteliers to cooperate with the administration in better conduct of the Chardham Yatra and said that all stakeholders will have to make joint efforts to make the Yatra well-organized, safe and pleasant.
The government had started online registration for the Chardham Yatra from March 20 and so far about 17 lakh devotees have registered themselves. The highest number of registrations have been done for Kedarnath by 6,58,149 devotees. 3,10,755 devotees have registered for Yamunotri, 3,44,278 for Gangotri and 5,83,747 devotees have registered for Badrinath.
Offline registration for the Yatra will start from April 25.
Meanwhile, a state-level 'mock drill' will be organized on April 24 to test the preparations related to the Char Dham Yatra.
State Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman said that under the 'mock drill' conducted by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Union Home Ministry and Uttarakhand Disaster Management Authority (USDMA), the preparations of various departments under the IRS (Incident Response System) system will be tested to effectively deal with possible disasters during the Yatra and regarding the Yatra.
He said that seven districts - Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Dehradun, Pauri, Tehri, Haridwar will participate in this 'mock drill'.&nbsp;

The yatra will pass through the Lipulekh Pass located at an altitude of 17,000 feet in Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh district, it said.
The pilgrimage, which is organised every year, was postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and since then it could not be conducted. But, due to the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, it will be conducted this year, it said.
A meeting was held in New Delhi on Monday regarding the yatra under the aegis of the Uttarakhand government and the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. During the meeting, the responsibility of conducting the pilgrimage was handed over to the Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam, it said.
The yatra will commence from Delhi on June 30 in which there will be five groups of 50 people each, a total of 250 devotees, will take part.
The first group for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra will enter China via Lipulekh Pass on July 10 and the last group will depart from China for India on August 22.
The statement said that each team will depart from Delhi and after staying one night in Tanakpur in Champawat district of Uttarakhand, one night in Dharchula in Pithoragarh district, two nights in Gunji and two nights in Nabhidang, will enter Taklakot in China.
After visiting Kailash, the passenger will depart from China and after staying one night in Bundi of Pithoragarh district, one night in Chaukori and one night in Almora, he will reach Delhi.
Thus, each team will travel for a total of 22 days.
According to the statement, the health check-up of all the pilgrims going on Kailash Mansarovar Yatra will be done first in Delhi and then in Gunji.
Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar, located in Tibet under Chinese control, have great religious significance. Hindus believe that Mount Kailash is the abode of Lord Shiva and that by circumambulating it and taking a bath in Lake Manasarovar, one attains salvation.

Additionally, CM Yogi visited Gorakhpur to review the Herbert Bandha four-lane road project, emphasizing that it will alleviate transportation issues and ease traffic congestion.&nbsp;
Furthermore, CM Yogi approved infrastructure development projects worth over Rs 700 crore for the district. He also highlighted plans to widen and strengthen roads in Gorakhpur, along with constructing new four-lane roads and an overbridge.

After it crashed near Shastri Nagar area, the plane caught fire and engulfed in flames, said Kharat.
"After taking off from the Amreli airport with a male trainee pilot, the trainer aircraft of an aviation academy, which operates from the airport, crashed into a residential area. The trainee pilot, who was flying solo, died in the crash while the aircraft was gutted in flames. No one else was injured in the accident," said Kharat.
He said a Delhi-based aviation academy provides pilot training from the Amreli airport.
The SP said local police have started the process to lodge a case of accidental death and investigation to find out the exact cause of the crash.
Four teams of local fire brigade rushed to Shastrinagar upon learning about the plane crash and resultant fire in the aircraft, said fire officer SC Gadhvi.
"Though the plane crashed into a residential area, no one else was injured because it first fell on a tree and then crashed into an open plot. The fire was eventually brought under control by our teams" he said.

SP Rajesh Dwivedi told PTI that the accident took place on Sunday night during a police checking in the Nigohi area.
"During vehicle check, a woman named Amarawati (34), who was riding pillion on her husband Pradeep's motorcycle, allegedly fell after a policeman struck the bike with a stick. She was run over by a truck and died on the spot," the officer said.
Following the accident, angry villagers and relatives of the deceased blocked the Nigohi road, disrupting traffic for several hours and allegedly misbehaving with police.
"An FIR has been registered against 60 people under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rioting, obstructing public servants, and inciting others," the SP said.
"We are identifying the troublemakers through CCTV camera footage and videos shot on mobile phones. No one will be allowed to take the law into their hands, and strict action will be taken against the offenders," he added.
Police are trying to identify more individuals involved in the incident, the officer said.

The Kerala government is viewing the drugs-related allegations and case against actor Shine Tom Chacko very seriously, with the police as well as the Excise department effectively intervening in the matter, state Law Minister P Rajeev said on Tuesday.
The minister also said that no person or sector would be exempted from the ambit of the law.
Rajeev, responding to queries from reporters about the allegations by actress Vincy Aloshious against Chacko, said that the government was considering the matter very seriously and will take strict action against such behaviour as alleged against the actor.
He also said that Chacko was acquitted in an earlier case due to the failure of the police probe, according to the courts.
The minister said that the investigation back then occurred during the UDF rule, but now the government in power has taken a strict stand in the matter, and all its machinery, including the police and excise, were working in coordination.
Meanwhile, the police said that an investigation into the latest drugs case against Chacko was going on and that it would seek expediting of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report of the samples taken from the actor.
Kochi City Police Commissioner Putta Vimaladitya also told reporters that a lot of things need to be investigated, and calling Chacko before completing that would not be beneficial for the case.
He also said that the police will be looking into the names of people who visited the actor when he was staying at the hotel from where he had allegedly fled when a District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF) team carried out a raid there.
Chacko has been booked under section 238 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and sections 27 (drug consumption) and 29 (abetment and criminal conspiracy) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, in connection with that incident.
According to the FIR, a District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF) team under Kochi City Police found the actor and another person using drugs and engaged in a criminal conspiracy in Room No 314 of a hotel near Kaloor last week.
Upon noticing the police, Chacko allegedly fled through a window in an alleged attempt to destroy evidence.
Vincy Aloshious has filed a complaint with the Film Chamber, accusing Chacko of inappropriate behaviour while under the influence of drugs on a movie set.
She has also informed the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) about his misconduct on the sets of the unreleased film 'Soothravakyam', though no police complaint has been filed.
The Ernakulam Additional Sessions Court had recently acquitted Chacko in a 2015 drug case, citing procedural lapses by the police during the seizure and arrest.

Andhra Pradesh CID Police reportedly arrested suspended senior police officer and former intelligence chief PSR Anjaneyulu from Hyderabad on Tuesday over his alleged role in harassing Mumbai-based actor- model, Kadambari Narendra Kumar Jethwani.
Anjaneyulu is one of the three IPS officers who are under suspension for allegedly "hastily arresting" and "harassing" Jethwani without proper investigation in a case filed against her during the erstwhile YSRCP regime. Vishal Gunni and Kanthi Ratan Tata are the other two IPS officers.
While top police officials and sources remained tight-lipped about the development, a section of media houses, besides the ruling TDP claimed that Anjaneyulu has been 'arrested.' "IPS officer PSR Anjaneyulu has been arrested for harassing a woman (Jethwani) under the directions of (former CM and YSRCP chief) Jagan Reddy, mobilising the entire government machinery," said TDP in a post on 'X'.
Working as the intelligence chief during the erstwhile YSRCP government, Anjaneyulu toed YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's line and claimed that harassing a woman (Jethwani) is a "known fact".
According to TDP, the previous government used all its might to subdue a woman (Jethwani) and compel her to "submit" but asserted that the TDP-led government is doing "justice" to her now.
Anjaneyulu, former Vijayawada Police Commissioner Tata and Gunni, then Deputy Commissioner of Police, Vijayawada were suspended last year after an inquiry revealed their role in the alleged harassment of the model.
In connection with this case, TDP said YSRCP leader Kukkala Vidyasagar has already been arrested while the three officials were suspended and Anjaneyulu arrested today.
