    Indian equity markets plunged in the opening session on Wednesday led by metal and banking stocks.

    At 9:25 am, the Sensex was 163 points in the red at 38,201 and the Nifty fell0.51% to trade at 11,260.

    Hindalco, ONGC, GAIL, UPL and Tata Steel were the top Nifty losers.

    Domestic equities also followed a heavy fall in the US markets with Nasdaq closing over 4% down in the Tuesday trade. Most Asian bourses were also in the red.
