Poll of exit polls: Mamata in a tight contest, massive gain for BJP

As the eighth and final phase of Assembly elections concluded in West Bengal, a poll of exit polls on Thursday showed the Mamata Banerjee led Trinamool Congress will retain power in a hard fought contest where the regional outfit is in a straight fight with the BJP.

The India Today Axis My India predicted the Mamata led party to pick between 130-156 seats. It gave BJP between 134-160 seats in the 294 member Assembly.

While the ABP-C Voter survey gave TMC 152-162 seats, it predicted BJP to win between 109-121 seats in the 292 member assembly. The Left and Congress alliance according to the survey, is projected to get 14-25 seats.

The TV9 Polstart gave TMC 142 to 152 seats as it predicted BJP to win between 125-135 seats.

However, the Republic CNX post-voting survey gave BJP more seats than the TMC. The survey projected Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party to get 139-148 seats, while the TMC may get between 128-138 seats. It projected a poor show for Left alliance.

The Time Now – CVoter projected the TMC to win the election with 158 seats while it gave BJP 115 seats.
