In order to further contain the spread of Covid, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin extended the statewide restrictions till October 31.

Stalin said the government’s stern efforts to control the spread of the virus have resulted in cases dropping from more than 36,000 at the end of May to around 1,600 now.

Stalin added that the surge in cases in certain districts of the state and border areas of neighbouring Kerala were being closely monitored and additional preventive measures were being taken.

Stalin said the government has provided a few relaxations considering the livelihood aspects of the people. However, keeping in mind the threat of a potential third-wave of Covid, a ban on festivals, and political, religious and cultural events will continue as they could turn into super-spreader events.

The Chief Minister also appealed to the people to celebrate festivals at their homes and follow Covid SOPs.

Tamil Nadu government further accelerated the vaccination programs and has planned to vaccinate five lakh people on a single day.
