Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday said he wants to leave the state's top post but the post is not leaving him and probably may not leave him in future.
Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters, he, however, said that there would be something in him that the party high command had chosen him to lead the state thrice but any decision taken by the leadership going forward would be acceptable to all.
Gehlot also said that his bete noire and former chief minister Vasundhara Raje should not be punished by the BJP because of him, saying it would be "injustice" towards her. He was referring to his remarks on Raje when his Congress government was under threat following a rebellion in 2020.
Gehlot, whose government had faced a rebellion led by his former deputy Sachin Pilot in 2020, said he has adopted the policy of "forgive and forget" and has moved on. He asserted that he has not opposed grant of any party tickets to Pilot's supporters.
Taking strong objection to the raids by the Enforcement Directorate and Income Tax Department against opposition leaders, he sought the prime minister's intervention to stop them immediately as the model code was in force.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday said he will welcome the move of Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to file a defamation case against him in connection with the Sanjivani cooperative society scam, saying this will bring the matter into national focus.
Gehlot has accused the Union minister of being involved in the scam, which he said has "looted the lifetime deposits of more than one lakh victims amounting to more than Rs 900 crore". &ldquo;I will welcome it (defamation case). This would expedite the case and help the victims who have lost money to the scam,&rdquo; the chief minister told reporters when asked about Shekhawat's plan to file the defamation case against him in Delhi.
&ldquo;This man (Shekhawat) should be ashamed of himself. Being a Union minister, he should have called the victims and helped them get justice," he said.
Gehlot said the Rajasthan government is ready to cooperate in the investigation of the case. &nbsp;He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah should take note of the scam. The senior Congress leader added that his government has written to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to probe the matter but in vain. He said the right to confiscate property is with the ED and the Special Operations Group of the state police cannot seize the property of the accused.&nbsp;

In a major goof-up, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday read out excerpts of the previous budget instead of Budget 2023-24.
As soon as the chief minister made the first two announcements, which featured in Budget 2022-23, the Opposition began creating a ruckus and stormed into the well of the House.
BJP alleged that the budget got technically leaked, as state government officials rushed to get the budget copy.

The department and designation of officials accused of corruption would be revealed by the ACB.

An order passed by the Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on 4 January 2023 has sparked a political war of words in the state.
The order reportedly says that names and photographs of corrupt officials "trapped" through decoy operations cannot be made public till they have been convicted by a court of law. However, their department and designation would be revealed by the ACB.
The Opposition BJP accused the Congress government of shielding the corrupt. Rajendra Rathore, the deputy Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly made the allegation against the Ashok Gehlot government.
BJP's state unit chief Satish Poonia tweeted, "Congress for the corrupt, the corrupt for Congress." The ruling party did not immediately respond, as per reports.

As the Bharat Jodo Yatra's Rajasthan leg ended Wednesday, the Congress would have heaved a sigh of relief as it passed the state without any face-off between the supporters of Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his bete noire Sachin Pilot despite sloganeering on the roads.
The yatra's about 500 km route in Rajasthan was dotted with several Pilot strongholds and the foot march was boosted by massive numbers, several of them being his young supporters who raised slogans such as "Humara CM Kaisa ho, Sachin Pilot Jaisa ho" and "I Love You, I Love You, Sachin Pilot, I Love You".

Pilot himself walked alongside Rahul Gandhi for most of the distance and on some occasions was also seen gesturing to his supporters raising slogans in his support to not do so.
Gehlot also was a regular feature especially during the morning session of the yatra in the state. In certain places, supporters of Gehlot also raised slogans in his favour and highlighted his "good governance" in the state.
On the 100th day of the yatra, a massive crowd was seen participating in the march as a sea of people thronged the streets of Dausa with many also standing atop their houses and cheering for Gandhi, Gehlot and Pilot.
The yatra had provided a temporary thaw in the long-running Gehlot-Pilot power tussle which most political analysts believe could again flare up in the near future if not addressed by the leadership.
Last week, AICC general secretary K C Venugopal had said "everything will be resolved smoothly" and the party is very much united in the state.
In an interview with PTI, Venugopal had also exuded confidence that the Congress would win the Rajasthan assembly polls next year and return to power.
A major row erupted last month following Gehlot's comments that Pilot is a 'gaddar' (traitor) and cannot replace him. The remarks drew a sharp response from Pilot who had said it was unbecoming of Gehlot's stature to use that kind of language and that such "mud-slinging" would not help at a time the focus should be on the yatra.
The escalation of the Gehlot-Pilot rift just ahead of the entry of yatra into the desert state had put the party in a spot but Venugopal's visit to the state calmed tempers and in a show of unity both Pilot and Gehlot posed for the cameras along with the AICC general secretary.

No chief minister can refuse such an offer. In fact, it would not be correct for a chief minister to refuse such an offer." "My contention is in the use of political power to help certain chosen businesses. My opposition is to two-three or four large businesses being helped politically to monopolize every single business in this country," he said.
"I am in no way against corporates, I am in no way against business but I am against the complete monopolization of Indian business because that weakens the country.
"Today what we are seeing is being done by the BJP government is complete monopolization of all businesses by helping a chosen few businesses," Gandhi alleged.
Earlier in a tweet, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said much media hype is being created over Gehlot's meeting with Adani.
"Adani wants to invest approximately ?60,000 cr in Rajasthan. No CM will say don't invest. There are NO special rules or policies for Adani by RJ Govt. Gehlot is very much against cronyism of the Modi variety," he said.

The chief minister arrived around 10.30 pm on a special aircraft.
Talking to reporters, Gehlot said internal issues that have cropped up within the party ahead of the Congress president's election will be resolved soon.
He said the party has internal discipline, which helped it "survive the decline in Lok Sabha numbers" and it continues to be a national party. "There is discipline in the party under Soniaji," he said.
"The events being reported by the media are small issues which keep happening. The media may have its own perspective on these events," he added.
Gehlot said fighting issues the country is facing is more important for them.
"Matters of a family are part and parcel of internal politics. We will solve everything," he told reporters in Delhi. He said for them the Congress president is foremost and they all work under her discipline.
"You will see that in the coming days, decisions will be taken on the crisis the country is facing. We are concerned about issues on which Rahul Gandhi is undertaking a yatra. Whether it is inflation or unemployment or the dictatorial tendencies overwhelming the nation," Gehlot said.
Gehlot is likely to meet the Congress president tomorrow and clear the air on whether he will contest the party president's election.
The chief minister had earlier boarded the special flight from Jaipur at 9.30 pm, according to sources.
During the day, his plan changed thrice. Ahead of his visit, some ministers and MLAs turned up at the CM&rsquo;s house in Jaipur to meet him.
After the meeting, Cabinet Minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas had told reporters that the chief minister will be leaving for Delhi to express feelings of 102 party MLAs.
Apart from Khachariyawas, Speaker C P Joshi, state Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra, minister Shanti Dhariwal and Mahesh Joshi also met the chief minister.
Khachariyawas said it was a routine meeting and Gehlot's interaction with the Speaker was no different.
He said whether the CM will file nomination for the party president or not, this is a decision of the high command.
"The chief minister is not resigning as of today," he said replying to a question.
Gehlot's visit comes a day after the Congress issued show-cause notices to three of his loyalists--Shanti Dhariwal and Mahesh Joshi, and Dharmendra Rathore--for their "grave indiscipline".
The action came after 82 MLAs participated in a parallel meeting at Dhariwal's residence in Jaipur, laying down conditions to the party and did not attend the official legislature party meeting convened for passing a resolution authorising the Congress chief to appoint a successor to Gehlot.
With the Rajasthan episode posing a significant challenge before the party, the Congress president has initiated discussions with senior party leaders from across the country to resolve the crisis even as the fate of Gehlot who was considered frontrunner for the top party post remained uncertain.
Several names have cropped up for the party president's post, including Kharge, A K Antony, Kamal Nath, Digvijaya Singh, Ambika Soni and Pawan Kumar Bansal, though most of them ruled themselves out of the race.

The Congress on Tuesday night issued show-cause notices to three Ashok Gehlot loyalists - Rajasthan ministers Shanti Dhariwal and Mahesh Joshi, and Dharmendra Rathore - for their "grave indiscipline", as the party scampered to resolve the crisis that has cast a shadow on the party chief's election.
The party's disciplinary committee has asked the three to explain within 10 days why action should not be initiated against them after the observers for Rajasthan - Mallikarjun Kharge and Ajay Maken - in their report to party chief Sonia Gandhi charged them with "gross indiscipline" but did not seek any action against Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
The action came two days after 82 MLAs participated in a parallel meeting at Dhariwal's residence in Jaipur laying down conditions to the party and did not attend the official legislature party meeting convened for passing a resolution authorising the Congress chief to appoint a successor to Gehlot, who was to contest the Congress presidential election.
The disciplinary panel's member secretary Tariq Anwar in his notice to Dhariwal, Joshi and Rathore, said Maken in his report to the party chief has reported 'grave indiscipline' on their part.
"Prima facie, the above charges are an act of grave indiscipline. Therefore, this show cause notice is being issued seeking your reply within 10 days as to why disciplinary action not be taken against you as per the provisions of the constitution of the Indian National Congress," the notice to all the three leaders said.
Anwar said Dhariwal has committed grave indiscipline by hosting a parallel MLAs meeting at his residence "pressuring them not to attend the official meeting".
He also accused Joshi, the chief whip in assembly of "grave indiscipline" on two counts - of boycotting the official CLP meeting and by participating and convening parallel meeting of the MLAs.
Anwar said Rathore, who is chairman of Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation, "made all logistical arrangements and were behind the entire planning of the unofficial meeting of the MLAs, held parallel to the official Rajasthan CLP meeting" which is an act of "grave indiscipline".

Meanwhile, the Rajasthan chief minister also held a closed-door meeting with party MLAs in Jaipur and is learnt to have apprised them of the latest developments.
The two observers - Kharge and Maken - had to return from Jaipur on Monday without holding the CLP meeting as a large group of MLAs considered loyal to Chief Minister Gehlot refused to join it and put forth certain conditions for the selection of Gehlot's successor.

Rajasthan crisis : The Congress on Tuesday night issued show-cause notices to three Ashok Gehlot loyalists - Rajasthan ministers Shanti Dhariwal and Mahesh Joshi, and Dharmendra Rathore - for their "grave indiscipline", as the party scampered to resolve the crisis that has cast a shadow on the party chief's election.
The party's disciplinary committee has asked the three to explain within 10 days why action should not be initiated against them after the observers for Rajasthan - Mallikarjun Kharge and Ajay Maken - in their report to party chief <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/politics/shashi-tharoor-to-run-for-congress-president-approval-from-sonia-gandhi-1663605597501">Sonia Gandhi</a> charged them with "gross indiscipline" but did not seek any action against Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
The action came two days after 82 MLAs participated in a parallel meeting at Dhariwal's residence in Jaipur laying down conditions to the party and did not attend the official legislature party meeting convened for passing a resolution authorising the Congress chief to appoint a successor to Gehlot, who was to contest the <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/rajasthan-crisis-congress-showcase-notice-to-3-gehlot-loyalists-1664330385693">Congress</a> presidential election.
The disciplinary panel's member secretary Tariq Anwar in his notice to Dhariwal, Joshi and Rathore, said Maken in his report to the party chief has reported 'grave indiscipline' on their part.
"Prima facie, the above charges are an act of grave indiscipline. Therefore, this show cause notice is being issued seeking your reply within 10 days as to why disciplinary action not be taken against you as per the provisions of the constitution of the Indian National Congress," the notice to all the three leaders said.
Anwar said Dhariwal has committed grave indiscipline by hosting a parallel MLAs meeting at his residence "pressuring them not to attend the official meeting".
He also accused Joshi, the chief whip in assembly of "grave indiscipline" on two counts - of boycotting the official CLP meeting and by participating and convening parallel meeting of the MLAs.
Anwar said Rathore, who is chairman of Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation, "made all logistical arrangements and were behind the entire planning of the unofficial meeting of the MLAs, held parallel to the official Rajasthan CLP meeting" which is an act of "grave indiscipline".
With the Rajasthan episode posing a significant challenge before the party, Congress president Sonia Gandhi has initiated discussions with senior party leaders from across the country to resolve the crisis even as the fate of <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/politics/one-person-one-post-rahul-gandhi-and-ashok-gehlot-have-contradictory-opinions-1663863691552">Ashok Gehlot</a> who was considered frontrunner for the top party post remained uncertain.
Several names have cropped up for the probable presidential candidate including Kharge, A K Antony, Kamal Nath, Digvijaya Singh, Ambika Soni and Pawan Kumar Bansal, though most of them ruled themselves out of the race.
The name of Gehlot for the top party post is, however, not completely ruled out yet, according to informed sources.
Among various senior leaders, Gandhi is learnt to have called Congress veterans A K Antony and Sushilkumar Shinde for consultations here. There is also a likelihood that fresh observers may be sent to Rajasthan and Shinde may be one of them.
Gandhi is considering resolving the matter after consultations with top party leaders who are keeping their fingers crossed on the situation.
After the developments in Jaipur, sources said Gehlot has reached out to Sonia Gandhi and is learnt to have explained his position, while his arch-rival Sachin Pilot rushed to Delhi ahead of any decision on Rajasthan.
Gehlot is learnt to have told Gandhi that he was not behind the parallel meet of MLAs and it was organised without his knowledge.
He is also understood to have told Sonia Gandhi that he would abide by any decision taken by her and the party, the sources said.
Meanwhile, the Rajasthan chief minister also held a closed-door meeting with party MLAs in Jaipur and is learnt to have apprised them of the latest developments.
The two observers - Kharge and Maken - had to return from Jaipur on Monday without holding the CLP meeting as a large group of MLAs considered loyal to Chief Minister Gehlot refused to join it and put forth certain conditions for the selection of Gehlot's successor.

Congress' chief whip in Rajasthan Assembly Mahesh Joshi has said that the party MLAs have no objection to whoever is made the next Chief Minister adding that the high-command's decision should be agreeable to all MLAs. 
"The doubts of the MLAs should be cleared by the high-command and then, whatever decision is taken will be accepted. We do not have any objection if anyone is made the chief minister but the final decision should have consensus," he told reporters in Rajasthan. 
Congress observers Ajay Maken and Mallikarjun Kharge landed in the state on Sunday and met with Gehlot as well as the state Congress chief Govind Singh Dostara at a hotel on Monday. Some Congress MLAs were also spotted at the hotel. 
Joshi himself, along with Shanti Dhariwal and Pratap Singh Khachariyawas, met the AICC observers on Sunday night.
Joshi said that they put three conditions in front of the observes -- a decision on the selection of the chief minister should be taken after the Congress presidential poll, the chief minister should be from among those MLAs who stood with the government during the political crisis in 2020 and not from the Pilot camp, and the AICC observers should hold meetings in groups instead of one-on-one as sought by the high-command.
On the other hand, Congress MLA Giriraj Singh Malinga said after the Gehlot loyalists resigned, the government no longer have a majority in the Assembly. 
He termed a mid-term election as the best way forward.The Pilot loyalists, meanwhile, are maintaining a silence over the developments and refraining to speak much before the media.
One of them, Khiladi Lal Bairwa, however said, "We are with the high-command. Whatever decision is taken will be accepted. This is what we had said on Sunday as well."

With speculations rife that Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor is likely to jump into the fray, Gehlot said other "Congress friends" may also contest but what matters is unity and the need to strengthen the organisation at all levels.
"There are Congress friends. Even if they contest, there is no issue. After the results, we should work together to strengthen the Congress at the block, village, district levels and also move forward making our (Congress) thought process as the base so that we emerge as a strong opposition," he added.
Considering the present situation in the country, there is a need for a strong opposition, the veteran Congress leader said.
Responding to a question on Rahul Gandhi's 'one-man, one-post' statement made in the context of the Congress leadership role and asked for his comment on a possible successor if he wins the party election, Gehlot said Rajasthan state in-charge Ajay Maken and Sonia Gandhi would decide on the matter.

 In a clear indication that he is likely to throw his hat in the ring for the Congress president polls, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday said he will file his nomination if his party people wish so and fulfil any responsibility given to him.
"The party and high command have given me everything. I have been on posts for 40-50 years. For me no post is important, I will fulfil any responsibility given to me," he said.
He also asserted that not only the Gandhi family, but scores of Congress members have faith in him.
"I am very fortunate that I have got love and affection of Congress men and women across the country and they have faith in me," Gehlot said.
"Therefore, if they ask me to fill the form (nomination), I will not be able to refuse...Will speak with friends. I was given the responsibility of being Rajasthan chief minister, I am fulfilling that responsibility as a CM and will continue to do so," said Gehlot, who was here to meet party chief Sonia Gandhi.
On whether keeping both posts of the CM and party president could be a violation of the party's pledges in Udaipur, Gehlot said that applies when the high command nominates people, while the president polls were an open election and anybody among the 9,000 PCC delegates, irrespective of whether that person is MP, MLA or minister, can contest.
Citing an example, he said if a minister in a state stands for Congress president election, that person can stay minister and also contest polls.
"Time will tell where I remain. I would like to stay where the party benefits from me, I will not back down," he asserted when asked if he would remain CM along with being party chief.
Gehlot said he wants to serve the Congress, wherever he is useful, be it Rajasthan or Delhi.
"Party has given me everything, post is not so important for me. If it is up to me, I would not take any post, I would join Rahul Gandhi in the Bharat Jodo Yatra looking at the situation in the country, the Constitution is being destroyed, democracy is in danger. They (the BJP) are destroying the country," he said.
The UPA rule was unparalleled, the BJP won elections using religion and is now destroying the country, he alleged.
He said if the Congress people want him in the role of CM or as president of the party, he will not be able to turn down their request.
Asserting that it is important to strengthen the Congress for the sake of the country, Gehlot said he would do wherever is required for that and would not back down.
Asked about a prospective contest with Shashi Tharoor for the party chief's post, he said contest should take place as it is good for internal democracy of the party.
"Rajnath Singh became BJP president, then Amit Shah became president then Nadda ji, was it discussed. We are fortunate that the media only talks about the Congress (polls)," he said.
Gehlot said he will try to convince Rahul Gandhi one last time to take on the post of party chief. If Rahul Gandhi carries out the Bharat Jodo Yatra being president of the Congress, it will add to the aura of the party, Gehlot said.
Meanwhile, Tharoor, who is set to contest the polls, met party central election authority chief Madhusudan Mistry at the AICC headquarters here.
The process for filing nominations for the election will be held from September 24 to 30.
The date of scrutiny of the nomination papers would be October 1, while the last date of withdrawal of nominations would be October 8.
The election, if there is more than one candidate, will take place on October 17, while counting of votes, if necessary, and the counting of votes and the declaration of results would be on October 19.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday launched the “Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Scheme” along the lines of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act or MGNREGA to provide 100 days of employment a year to families in urban areas. 

More than 4 lakh people have applied for registration, job cards have been issued to 2.50 lakh people, said Local Self Government and Urban Development and Housing Minister Shanti Dhariwal during the launch event.&nbsp;

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday launched a scheme along the lines of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to provide 100 days of employment to families in urban areas.
Terming the Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Scheme (IGUES) historic, Gehlot said any family that wants to increase their income at a time of high inflation could apply for jobs under it.
The scheme was prepared after studying similar programmes introduced in other states, he added after launching the programme during a state-level event at Ambedkar Bhawan in Jaipur.
Ten women beneficiaries were presented job cards during the function.
Under the scheme, projects on environment protection, water conservation, heritage conservation, maintenance of gardens, removal of encroachment, illegal sign boards, hoardings and banners, and sanitation will be undertaken.
People in the 18 to 60 age group are eligible for the scheme, under which at least 50 people in each ward of urban local bodies will be given employment.
To register for it, a Janaadhar card or its registration slip is required. Registrations can be done at e-Mitra centres. The government has allocated Rs 800 crore for the scheme, which was announced by the chief minister during this year's state budget.
"We recently held a rally in Delhi against the Centre over inflation. This fight with the Centre will run parallel in public interest but here is an excellent scheme under which various type of works will be done," Gehlot said.
The chief minister said the MGNREGA was started during the UPA government at the Centre for employment in rural areas, which had a positive outcome.

"Employment opportunities were easily accessible to the rural unemployed people across the country. This also improved the standard of living," he said.
Gehlot said when the employment crisis increased during the coronavirus pandemic, the MGNREGA proved to be a boon.
"Keeping this in mind, the historic decision to start employment guarantee scheme for urban areas was announced in the budget," he said.
Rajasthan Local Self Government and Urban Development and Housing (UDH) Minister Shanti Dhariwal said nearly 40,000 people got the work on the first day. More than 4 lakh people have applied for registration, job cards have been issued to 2.50 lakh people, he said.
The chief minister also highlighted other initiatives of the state government, including the Chiranjeevi Health Insurance Scheme. The state government has made treatment free under the Chiranjeevi scheme so that the poor do not need to sell their belongings to get treatment, he said.
Gehlot said his government will give smartphones with three years of free internet connection to 1.35 crore women.
He also highlighted the state government's initiative to open Mahatma Gandhi English Medium schools to provide education to children in English medium, and a scheme to distribute free sanitary napkins to women.
The CM also talked about the problems faced by people living in slums and said the state government will regularise &ldquo;kucchi bastis&rdquo;.
He also interacted with labourers and distributed necessary tools to them.
The state-level function was held at Ambedkar Bhawan near Tunnel Chauraha in the state capital. The programme was telecast live.
Jaipur Heritage Municipal Corporation Mayor Munesh Gurjar, local MLAs Rafiq Khan and Amin Kagzi, the chairperson of the Social Welfare Board, Archana Sharma, were also present on the occasion.
