In a breakthrough for space research and travel, NASA&nbsp;scientists have confirmed the presence of water on the sunlit surface of the Moon for the first time via its Sofia Telescope.
Noting the findings in two papers published in the journal Nature Astronomy, the agency discovered that there are probably tens of billions of &ldquo;micro cold traps&rdquo; on the moon, which could be great news for the future of lunar ice.&nbsp;
Water is a crucial resource for not just continuing research on the Moon but also for building a permanent base on the celestial body, which could later serve as a stop-over on the journey to Mars.&nbsp;

China's health authority has confirmed the detection and isolation of living novel coronavirus on the outer packaging of imported frozen marine fish in the port city of Qingdao. It has been described as the first detection of its kind on the cold food chain in the world. The Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Saturday said the finding was made during an investigation to trace the source of recent infections reported in Qingdao. In July, China had suspended imports of frozen shrimp after the deadly virus was found on packages and the inner wall of a container.

The authorities in Qingdao, where a new cluster of Covid-19 cases were reported recently, conducted tests on all of its about 11 million population. No new clusters of cases were found after the tests, the local authorities said.
In July, China suspended imports of frozen shrimp after the deadly virus was found on packages and the inner wall of a container. The Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Saturday said it detected and isolated the living novel coronavirus on the outer packaging of imported frozen cod(large marine fish) in Qingdao.
The finding was made during an investigation to trace the source of recent infections reported in the city. It has proved that contact with packaging contaminated by living novel coronavirus could lead to infection, state-run Xinhua news agency reported, quoting the CDC statement.
The statement, however, did not mention the country from where the package was imported. It is the first time in the world that living novel coronavirus has been isolated from the outer packaging of cold-chain food, the statement said.
The agency said the risk of cold-chain food circulating in China's market being contaminated by the novel coronavirus is very low, citing recent nucleic acid test results for samples taken from the business.
A total of 2.98 million samples had been tested across the country's 24 provincial-level regions by September 15, including 670,000 taken from cold-chain food or food packaging, 1.24 million from working staff and 1.07 million from the environment.
Only 22 samples from cold-chain food or food packaging tested positive for the virus, the CDC said.
Meanwhile, the National Health Commission on Sunday said 13 confirmed Covid-19 cases, all arriving from outside the mainland, were reported on Saturday.

PTI,&nbsp;Islamabad: Pakistan has imposed mini smart lockdowns in several cities after a surge in the COVID-19 positivity rate, a senior minister said on Sunday, amid fears of a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
On Sunday, Pakistan reported 666 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of infections to 318,932, according to the Ministry of National Health Services.
Minister for Planning Asad Umar in a post on Twitter said that mini lockdowns have been imposed in some cities after &ldquo;positivity rate crossed 2 per cent after remaining below 2 per cent for six weeks&rdquo;.
Positivity rate is the percentage of positive results out of the total number of tests sampled.
Mini smart lockdowns have been imposed in Karachi, Islamabad and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
"Instructions have been issued to administrations across the country to ensure that precautionary measures are followed. But like in the past, success is impossible without the cooperation of the people," he said in the tweet.
Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood also asked people to follow guidelines and avoid big gatherings.
"Large public gatherings must not take place. These alone can unleash a second wave," he said.
According to the health ministry, Punjab province on Sunday confirmed 203 new COVID-19 cases. It was for the first time since August 15 that Punjab recorded more than 200 cases.
Sindh reported 140,131 cases, Punjab 100,687, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa 38,329, Islamabad 17,296, Balochistan 15,520, Gilgit-Baltistan 3,924 and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir 3,045 cases.
The National Command and Control Centre (NCOC), the nerve centre to synergise and articulate unified national effort against COVID-19, on Thursday imposed restrictions on large-scale public gatherings in marriage halls after rise in the COVID-19 infections in recent weeks.
The restrictions have come ahead of a big rally announced by the opposition parties, under the banner Pakistan Democratic Movement, on October 16 at Gujranwala in Punjab province against the Imran Khan-led government.
However, the Opposition leaders have rejected the call to avoid big rallies.
&ldquo;Some weeks ago this government was taking credit for controlling the coronavirus but suddenly it started saying that it was getting out of control,&rdquo; Rana Sanaullah of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz earlier had said.&nbsp;

A joint statement, issued by the US, on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) said, "On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, We, the above listed signatories of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, established and adopted in 1948, recommit ourselves today to the Declaration and its foundational ideal that certain principles are so fundamental as to apply to all human beings, everywhere, at all times."
"India is proud to endorse the US initiative on the Joint Statement on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights," India's Permanent Mission to the UN tweeted.
Other nations joining the US on the statement include Bahrain, Brazil, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Maldives, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
"We recognise the many differences in our cultural, political, legal, religious, and other traditions, yet reaffirm fundamental freedoms and rights for all, and reassert our commitment to honouring the dignity of all persons that is the basis for our commitments under the UDHR," the joint statement said.

The talks are set to be held at Moldo on the Chinese side of the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh.&nbsp;For the first time, a joint secretary-level officer from the Ministry of External Affairs is expected to be part of the Indian delegation. India is looking for some concrete outcome from the dialogue, the report said.

New Delhi, PTI: The sixth round of Corps Commander talks between the armies of India and China is scheduled to be held on Monday with a sole focus on the implementation of a five-point agreement reached between the two countries on disengagement of troops and de-escalation of the volatile situation in eastern Ladakh, government sources said on Sunday.
The talks are set to be held at Moldo on the Chinese side of the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh, they said.
For the first time, a joint secretary-level officer from the Ministry of External Affairs is expected to be part of the Indian delegation, the sources said, adding India is looking for some concrete outcome from the dialogue.
Both sides reached the agreement to resolve the border row at a meeting between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on the sidelines of a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meet in Moscow on September 10.
The agreement included measures like quick disengagement of troops, avoiding action that could escalate tensions, adherence to all agreements and protocols on border management and steps to restore peace along the LAC.
The Indian delegation at the talks is set to be led by Lt Gen Harinder Singh, the commander of the Leh-based 14 Corps of the Indian Army, while the Chinese side is likely to be headed by Major General Liu Lin, the commander of the South Xinjiang military region.
"In the talks, India will insist on complete disengagement of Chinese troops from the friction points at the earliest," said a source.
