According to a study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, irregular and poor-quality sleeping patterns could increase your risk of developing cardiovascular disease.
For the study, researchers analysed sleeping patterns of more than 2,000 adults for two years. Participants&rsquo; cardiovascular health was also assessed during the same time frame.
The team found that those with irregular sleep durations had a 1.4 times higher risk of developing heart diseases compared to those with more consistent sleep durations.
Maintaining regular sleep duration each night may help prevent cardiovascular diseases, experts concluded.

According to AHA, poor diet quality is strongly associated with an elevated risk of cardiovascular disease. People are advised to consume food and beverages that are good for their hearts, regardless of whether they are prepared at home or outside.
Central to the AHA&rsquo;s guidance, these are some requirements for a heart-healthy dietary pattern:

According to a study published &nbsp;in the journal Jama Cardiology, people who sit for six to eight hours a day have a 13 per cent higher risk of early death and cardiovascular disease. The risk went up to 20 per cent for those who sit for more than eight hours daily.&nbsp;
For the study, researchers analysed more than 1,00,000 people from 21 countries for a period of 11 years. The team found that participants who sat the most and were the least active had the highest risk of heart disease, up to 50% while those who sat the most but were also the most active had a significantly reduced risk of around 17%.
However, replacing half an hour of sitting with exercise can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by two per cent, researchers concluded.&nbsp;

According to a study presented at the &nbsp;European Academy of Neurology (EAN), Covid-19 patients are at an increased risk of neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer&rsquo;s, Parkinson&rsquo;s disease and ischaemic stroke.
For the study, researchers analysed the health records of 9,19,731 individuals from February 2020 to November 2021. They used statistical techniques to calculate relative risk and results were stratified for hospitalisation status, age, sex and comorbidities.
As per the findings, 43,375 people who tested positive had 3.5 times increased risk of being diagnosed with Alzheimer&rsquo;s disease, 2.6 times higher risk of Parkinson&rsquo;s disease and 2.7 times with ischaemic stroke.&nbsp;

Brushing teeth regularly is linked with a lower risk of atrial fibrillation (A-fib) and heart failure, according to a study published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology.
Researchers suggest that poor oral hygiene can lead to bacteria in the blood, causing inflammation in the body which increases the risk of A-fib or irregular heartbeat and heart failure.

The study was conducted on 161,286 people between the ages of 40 and 79 who had no history of A-fib or heart failure. During the research, participants were asked questions about their lifestyle, oral health and oral hygiene habits.&nbsp;They&nbsp;also underwent some laboratory tests, which included blood tests, urine tests and blood pressure readings.
Over a median follow-up of 10.5 years, around 3.0% of participants developed A-fib while 4.9% suffered from heart failure. As per the findings, brushing teeth three or more times a day can reduce the risk of A-fib by 10% and lower the risk of heart failure by 12%.

For the study, researchers examined data from 67,014 women of the Nurses&rsquo; Health Study with an average age of 63.6 years and 26,326 men from the Health Professionals Study aged 63.3 years. During the 20-year follow-up period, researchers found that eating five or more servings of walnuts per week is associated with a 14 percent lower risk of death from any cause, a 25 percent lower risk of dying from cardiovascular diseases and a gain in about 1.3 years of life expectancy.&nbsp;

According to a new study presented at the European Stroke Organisation (ESO) Conference, women are at a higher risk of heart attack and stroke than men. This is due to work stress, sleep disorders and fatigue which are termed as non-traditional risk factors for heart disease.

Over the same period, the number of participants (especially women) reporting sleep disorders and fatigue also went up.
Although men are perceived to be at higher risk of heart attacks and strokes. Women are more affected by non-traditional risk factors as they are working full time; juggling between work and domestic responsibilities, researchers concluded.

According to a study published in the European Heart Journal, people who add extra salt to their food are at a higher risk of dying prematurely compared to those who never or rarely add salt.&nbsp;
For the study, researchers examined more than 5,00,000 middle-aged participants over 9 years. Almost 18,500 premature deaths were recorded after the data was collected between 2006 and 2010.
The findings suggest that people who add extra salt to their food have a 28 per cent increased risk of dying prematurely. Sprinkling salt on meals knocks more than two years off life expectancy so people should consider avoiding seasoning their food, study authors concluded.&nbsp;
As per the World Health Organisation (WHO), high sodium consumption contributes to high blood pressure and increases the risk of heart disease and stroke. Salt intake of less than 5 grams per day is recommended for adults as it reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases.&nbsp;

For the study, the team examined the resting heart rate of 2,147 individuals aged 60 years or older for a period of 12 years. They set out to determine whether resting heartbeat could be linked to dementia and cognitive decline, independent of other risk factors such as cardiovascular disease.
As per the findings, individuals with a resting heart rate of 80 beats per minute or higher on average had a 55 percent higher risk of dementia than those with a heart rate of 60-69 beats per minute.

The analysis included 30,827 individuals (average age 67) who were at risk of developing heart failure. The investigators studied aspirin use and incidence of heart failure after adjusting for gender, age, body mass index, smoking, alcohol use, blood pressure, heart rate, cholesterol, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
At baseline, 7,698 participants (25 percent) were taking aspirin. Throughout the follow-up period, 1,330 participants developed heart failure.
As per the findings, among individuals with at least one risk factor for heart failure, those taking aspirin were more likely to develop the condition than those not using the medication.

Normal blood pressure is defined by pressure below 120/80, whereas an optimal and healthier blood pressure is closer to 110/70. The ANU team in collaboration with colleagues in Australia, New Zealand and Germany, examined more than 2,000 brain scans of 686 healthy individuals. The blood pressure of the participants was measured up to four times across a 12-year period.
The ANU study found that participants with high blood pressure had older and therefore less healthy brains, increasing their risk of heart disease, stroke and dementia. Researchers also found that participants with the elevated blood pressure but within the normal range too had older-looking brains and were at risk of health problems.
If optimal blood pressure is maintained, brains will remain younger and healthier, researchers concluded. Findings show the need for everyone including young people to check their blood pressure regularly.
