Crestfallen after losing the World Cup trophy match on Sunday night, the Indian cricket team had the country's Prime Minister Narendra Modi to offer his commiserations.
The heartbreaking defeat left a few Indian cricketers in tears while others just went into a shell.
Modi visited the Indian dressing room where he hugged pacer Mohammed Shami, the highest wicket-taker in the tournament, and also spoke with Ravindra Jadeja.
The cricketers also took to their social media to reveal about their meeting with the PM.
"We had a great tournament but we ended up short yesterday. We are all heartbroken but the support of our people is keeping us going. PM @narendramodi's visit to the dressing room yesterday was special and very motivating," Jadeja posted on X along with a picture with Modi. Shami also posted his picture with Modi with a message.
"Unfortunately yesterday was not our day. I would like to thank all Indians for supporting our team and me throughout the tournament. Thankful to PM @narendramodi for specially coming to the dressing room and raising our spirits. We will bounce back!," Shami wrote on his X, formerly twitter, page.
Modi had also posted a message for the Indian team on social media.
"Dear Team India, Your talent and determination through the World Cup was noteworthy. You've played with great spirit and brought immense pride to the nation.
We stand with you today and always," he wrote on X on Sunday night.
Several fans on X appreciated PM Modi for his gesture.
"That&rsquo;s what leaders do . Cheer the team when they need it most !!," wrote Sacheth N Rao, who reposted the Shami pic.
"It&rsquo;s a tough Monday but these images fill me with warmth. Prime Minister Modi spending time with the players after the game yesterday is also a testament to the belief 1.4 billion Indians will always have in the &lsquo;Men in Blue&rsquo;. We will rise again," wrote Yash Pathak.
Mehroz Ali Pasha also had the same sentiment.

Shubman Gill was hurting, Shreyas Iyer also found it difficult to let the reality sink in while veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also endured a mighty heartbreak as they opened up about their poignant experiences following the World Cup final loss to Australia.
"We're heartbroken, it still hasn't sunk in and it won't for a while," wrote Iyer on X.
"My first World Cup was an experience that has taught me so much and made me grateful for everything that's come my way. Thank you to the @BCCI, team management, support staff, my teammates and you the fans for backing us from the beginning right up until the end. And congratulations to the entire Australian team on a marvelous campaign," Iyer wrote.
Gill took to Instagram to share his side of the story.
"Been almost 16 hours but still hurts like it did last night. Sometimes giving your everything isn't enough. We fell short of our ultimate goal but every step in this journey has been a testament to our team's spirit and dedication.
"To our incredible fans, your unwavering support in our highs and lows means the world to us. This isn't the end, it's not over until we win. Jai Hind." Another post from Shami read,"You win some, you lose some. Tough pill to swallow for us but we have our heads held high.
Ashwin, who was a member of India's 2011 World Cup winning side wrote: "Mighty mighty heartbreak last night. Everyone in the team had several days to remember during this campaign and special mentions to Kohli, Shami, Rohit and Bumrah." The ace offspinner further congratulated Australia "However I can&rsquo;t help but applaud the giants of modern day cricket "Australia". What they did on the field yesterday was just unbelievable. Spent emotionally after enduring a heartbreaking World Cup final defeat, India head coach Rahul Dravid needs time to reflect on his future with the national team even as his his two-year contract ended on Sunday.
India lost the World Cup title clash to Australia by six wickets and with this assignment, 'Mr Dependable's contract with the BCCI has ended officially.
The issue has not yet come up for discussion within the BCCI even though Dravid has guided the team to two ICC tournament finals and one semi-final in his two-year stint.
Asked how he looks at his future and if he is game coaching in a single format, Dravid remained non-committal.
"I haven't thought about it. I've just come off a game. I had no time to think about this and no time to reflect on this. Yeah, I will when I get the time to do that," he said at post match media conference.
"At this point of time, I was completely focused on this campaign and there was nothing else on my mind. And I haven't given any other thought to what happens in the future." The 50-year-old also said he isn't someone who believes in analysing his own two-year tenure.
"To be honest, I am not really someone who's going to judge and analyse myself. I was really proud to work with. I think the players that I worked with over the last two years in all the formats, it's been a privilege." He also didn't want to comment whether he would be interested in guiding the team during the next year's T20 World Cup in USA and the West Indies.
"Honestly, I haven't thought about it. I think all our campaign, all our energies were focused on this match, focused on this tournament, and focused till here. And I haven't actually given it any thought or I have no plans, I have had no plans of what's going to happen in the future," said the former India captain.
Asked whether some of the golden generation of Indian cricketers lost out on an opportunity to win a World Cup as next edition in South Africa in four years might be too late, the coach laughed.
"I'm not really thinking about 2027 and who's going to be there and who's not going to be there. There's a lot of time for that. A lot of water will flow under the bridge before that. There'll be a lot of time for that," Dravid said.
Rohit was invested in this team =================== Terming Rohit as an incredible leader, Dravid spoke about how invested the skipper was in this team and also went out of his way and spent his personal time in the dressing room to strike up a rapport with the boys.
"He's been an exceptional leader. You know, Rohit's really led this team fantastically well. He's certainly got the dressing room, he's given so much of his time and energy in the dressing room to the boys.
"He has always been available for any of our conversations, any of our meetings. Sometimes there's been a lot of planning, a lot of strategy that goes in. He's always committed to those things. He's given a lot of his personal time, energy into this campaign," he said.
Tough to see the disappointment in dressing room ============================== The Indian cricketers were a broken lot after the final and in fact there was a lot of emotions which was tough to see as coach.
"Of course he's disappointed, as are many of the boys in the dressing room. It was tough to see as a coach, because I know how hard these guys have worked, what they've put in, the sacrifices they've made.
"So, it's tough. I mean, it's tough to see that as a coach, because you get to know these boys personally." We were not defensive: ================ "We played fearless cricket, we had 80 runs in first powerplay. Sometimes, you have to rebuild innings after losing a few wickets, we were not defensive.
"They also did the same when Head and Labuschagne batted but they did not lose wicket and kept going," said Dravid.

"It was a bit slow to start off with when the sun was on. But I thought it played fine. It was probably a 280, 290 kind of wicket. It wasn't 240." "We should have got those 40 extra runs. That might have put more pressure on Australia. Thought it played really well later on as well. So, I thought it was a pretty good wicket. Sometimes looks can be a bit deceiving. Didn't really have that many tricks."&nbsp;

Speaking at the inauguration of Jagadhatri Puja at Posta Bazar in central Kolkata, Banerjee alleged that the BJP has introduced saffron colour not only in the practice jerseys of the cricket team but also in the painting of Metro stations.
She expressed her disapproval, stating, "They are trying to paint the entire country saffron. We are proud of our Indian players, and I believe they will be champions in the World Cup. But they (BJP) brought in saffron colours there as well, and our boys now practice in saffron-coloured jerseys. The Metro stations have been painted saffron. This is unacceptable." Without explicitly naming anyone, Banerjee denounced what she considered as partisan politics.
The TMC boss said, "I don't have problems with them erecting statues, but they are trying to turn everything saffron. I had once seen that Mayawati had made a statue of herself. After that, I hadn't heard of anything like this. These theatrics cannot always lead to benefits. Power comes and goes." Taking a swipe at the BJP, she said the country belongs "to the Janata (people) of the nation, and not to just Janata of a party.&rdquo; Her remark drew sharp reactions from the BJP, which dubbed the allegations as a "reflection of a vindictive approach." BJP leader Rahul Sinha said, "After a few days, she might question why our national flag has saffron colour in it. We don't deem it fit even to react to such statements." While talking about the upcoming edition of the Bengal Global Business Summit, Banerjee claimed that more than 70,000 businessmen have left the country.
"These businessmen could have invested in the country, and money could have been used here. But now they have moved out. We hope good sense prevails (in BJP leader)," she said.

After restricting the South Africans to 212, Australia eked its way to 215-7 to win by three wickets with 16 balls to spare in a tense atmosphere inside Eden Gardens.
Australia will face tournament hosts India in Ahmedabad at the 1.3 lakh capacity Narendra Modi Stadium in Sunday's final.
India had earlier defeated New Zealand by 70 runs in the other semi-final clash at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on November 15.
What were the emotions like there, particularly towards the end of that chase? Obviously, it got a bit tight there.
"I think it was a tricky wicket throughout and I guess different phases of pressure for both teams throughout the game. So, yeah, I was pretty calm. I think Patty (Cummins) was pretty calm as well. And whilst it was pretty close, we had plenty of time. So, nice to squeeze past and make it to a final."
On a personal front with the ball, how pleasing is it, sort of gratifying to play like that at such a big game given the tournament you've had?
"To start the game like that with Joshie [Hazlewood] and I, power play wickets have probably been not our strong suit through the tournament so it was nice to have a power play of what two for 18 or something like that so the way Josh bowled throughout to finish two for 12 was incredible, and then Trav (Travis Head) with bat and ball. I think a lot of guys in the field as well, the way Davey (David Warner) stepped up in the field and led by example. You could probably name everyone at different circumstances through the day to really step up in a big game."
About the fast start with the bat from Australia's openers Travis Head and David Warner
"When you're willing to take the game on like that and sometimes you take a little bit of luck with you but the guys were fantastic in that opening partnership and then Trav carried through a bit longer and he was probably looking a bit ominous there not to go further, closer to 100 so, yeah certainly took some pressure off early with the way that the guys started and obviously, much needed with how we saw the back end of the game and giving ourselves a bit of extra time not to have to go so hard at the end."
You'll be playing against India in Ahmedabad in front of 130,000 crowd. You have seen that Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill have been having a great time opening. So how much are you looking forward to tackling the Indian openers with the new ball?
"That's what World Cups are about. You want to take on the best throughout and we certainly come up against a team that have obviously led from the front through the tournament and they're undefeated. So, we played them in the first game of the tournament, now we get to take them on in the last. So yeah, what a place to be at the end of a World Cup."

Australia beat South Africa by three wickets in the second semifinal on Thursday to book a final berth against India at the 1.3-lakh capacity stadium in Ahmedabad.

A nerve-wracking semifinal win under their belt, Australia cannot wait for the World Cup summit clash against India in Ahmedabad on Sunday, said captain Pat Cummins.
Australia beat South Africa by three wickets in the second semifinal on Thursday to book a final berth against India at the 1.3-lakh capacity stadium in Ahmedabad.
India had beaten New Zealand by 70 runs in the first semifinal in Mumbai on Wednesday.
"Easier than sitting in the dugout. Nerve-wracking couple of hours but great effort and a great game," Cummins said at the post-match presentation.
Asked about taking on India in the final with a massive crowd supporting the hosts, he said, "The stadium is going to be packed, pretty one-sided but got to embrace it.
"The good thing is a few of us have been there for finals before. The 2015 World Cup was a career highlight, so to be out there in a final in India, can't wait." Cummins said he knew the pitch would spin later in the match.
"We thought it would spin quite a bit. Wasn't expecting Starcy and Josh to bowl so much early. Bit gloomy, swinging around so wasn't too upset." Talking about impressive fielding display by his side, Cummins said, "Something we talk a lot about. Wasn't up to scratch at the start of the tournament.
"Davey (Warner), 37, diving around, incredible. And the big two up front were incredible." On Travis Head getting two wickets, he said, "he has this knack of finding a wicket. Been different bowlers chip in through the whole tournament.
"Inglis also played that beautifully. He looked in control against two really good spinners on a tough wicket." South Africa captain Temba Bavuma said it was a "dog fight" but admitted that Australia were outstanding for a large part of the game.
"Quite hard to put into word. Our character came through. It was a dog fight. The way we started with the bat and the ball was probably the turning point, we lost it quite badly there." Asked about the reasons of South Africa's top-order batting collapse, Bavuma said, "Conditions and the quality of the attack. They (Australian bowlers) were ruthless. Presented with the conditions but they really put us under pressure." South Africa were reduced to 24 for 4 in the 12th over before David Miller struck a magnificent 101 to take the score past 200-run mark.
"We were gaining momentum at that point (before dismissal of Klaasen). We've seen how destructive he can be in the latter part of the innings. David Miller showed what he can do as a player and his mentality.
"Would have liked to have bowled better, it allowed the other batters to play themselves in. Shamsi was terrific, we were competitive but we needed a lot to go right." He admitted that South Africa had some tough chances (fielding) that went abegging.
"We had chances - tough chances - but we put them down. Could have been more proactive but you need things to go your way." Bavuma also praised Quinton de Kock and Gerald Coetzee for their performances in the tournament. It was de Kock's farewell game in the 50-over format.
"As a young guy, he (Gerald Coetzee) was a warrior. There wasn't much happening for him to bowl like that and get the wicket of Smith, get us back into the game. He kept on going until he was cramping.
"He (De Kock) had an outstanding tournament. Would have wanted to end on a different note, but he'll remember the fight we showed as a team. We've enjoyed playing with him, in SA he will go down as a legend of the game."&nbsp;

In response to the surging demand for physical match tickets necessitating in-person collection from stadium counters, Jay Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), announced dedicated counters for fans' convenience.

South Africa captain Temba Bavuma said on Wednesday that his Proteas side will take inspiration from the Springboks' triumphant Rugby World Cup campaign when they take on Australia in the second semi-final of Cricket's 50-over equivalent in Kolkata on Thursday.
"I think to a large degree we look at them in awe," he said. "The way they won it this year, how that resilience, how that 'do or die' attitude came through. That's what we've been speaking about as a team that when the crunch moment comes, when the pressure moments come, we come together as a team and we find a way to get over the line. We want to be there on the 19th of November, but for us to do that we have got to focus and deal with tomorrow as best as we can."
South Africa beat the Aussies by a comfortable 134-run margin in the group phase of the competition and have won the last four 50-over matches between the two sides, but Bavuma is not taking anything for granted.
"We're not coming up against a 'Mickey Mouse' team," he said. "Australia have a lot of experience and confidence in knockout games like this, so we've got to respect that. But I think from our performances, from the processes that we've followed to get to this point, we'll continue to lean on that and we believe that will take care of the result in itself."

"Physically I feel alright. Obviously not 100 per cent," he said. "I'm quite confident, but I mean, it's not a unilateral decision that will be made. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson described India as an "exceptional" team on Tuesday, on the eve of their Cricket World Cup semi-final against the host nation in Mumbai.
Williamson remains upbeat about New Zealand&rsquo;s chances though, despite India&rsquo;s unbeaten run in the tournament and the Black Caps&rsquo; underdog status.
New Zealand suffered four group-stage defeats, including a four-wicket loss to India on 22nd October, but Williamson insists that result will have little bearing when the teams meet again for a place in the final.

New Zealand's latest cricketing sensation Rachin Ravindra has been getting a lot of attention these days because of his star studded performances in the ongoig ICC Cricket World Cup.
Rumoured to be named after Indian cricket veterans Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, the Indian origin cricketer's father came up with a clarification and said that the news is not true.
Speaking to The Print, Rachin's father Ravi Krishnamurthy said, "When Rachin was born, my wife suggested the name, and we didn't spend a lot of time discussing it."
"The name sounded good, was easy to spell, and short, so we decided to go with it. It was only some years later that we realised the name was a mix of Rahul and Sachin's names. He wasn't named with the intention to make our child a cricketer or anything of the sort." he added.
New Zealand will be taking on India in the semi-finals of the World Cup on Wednesday.

India's dominant eight-match winning streak in the World Cup has a lot to do with Rohit Sharma adapting brilliantly to his dual role of team captain and opener, reckoned head coach Rahul Dravid.
Rohit has led this Indian side from the front without being a brooding presence while as an opener the Mumbaikar often gave his side a rollicking start.
In fact, Rohit has made 443 runs from eight matches at a strike-rate of 122, blunting the opposition bowlers early.
"Rohit has certainly been a leader. I think he's led by example both on and off the field," said Dravid during a pre-match press conference on the eve of India's final league match against the Netherlands.
"There have been some games where it could have been tricky for us, but the fact that he's been able to get us to those kinds of starts has literally cracked open the game.
"It's actually has made it look easy for us and certainly made it easier for the guys who followed in that (batting) department." Dravid said Rohit sets the example for others by imbibing the team mottos, and it has created a massive impact in the Indian dressing room.
The former Indian captain, perhaps, had in his mind the aggressive way Rohit has opened till date in this event, a stimulant for others to follow his suit.
"We've talked about playing in a particular way. You cannot do that unless your leader buys in and shows by example. It's been terrific to see the way Rohit's done that. I think his captaincy has been fantastic. He's someone who's certainly got the respect of the group and the coaching staff," said Dravid.&nbsp;
