Placed in a challenging Group D alongside South Africa, Bangladesh and the Netherlands, Sri Lanka faces an uphill battle. 

Despite entering the competition as underdogs, Hasaranga and his team will aim to improve upon their previous performances and perhaps even end their decade-long title drought, just like KKR did in IPL 2024.

Sri Lanka's last triumph at the T20 World Cup came back in 2014, under the leadership of the legendary pacer Lasith Malinga. It remains a cherished memory for their fans. During that tournament, the team lost only one game against England, showcasing a remarkable run to lift the trophy. Since then, their performance in subsequent editions, however, has failed to live up to that golden standard.
Placed in a challenging Group D alongside quality teams like South Africa and Bangladesh, Sri Lanka face an uphill battle. Their defeat in the warm-up match against the Netherlands, who they'll play again in the league stage, has further intensified the competition in their group.
In the previous T20 World Cup edition, Sri Lanka fell short of reaching the knockout stages, winning only 2 out of their 5 group matches. Despite this, they remain a team no opponent can afford to underestimate.
The Sri Lankan cricket board has entrusted experienced all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga with the captaincy for this T20 World Cup. Hasaranga is returning after recovering from a chronic heel injury, which even kept him out of the IPL. In addition, Matheesha Pathirana and Dilshan Madhushanka are both available, which would come as a big boost for the Islanders. They'd be hoping for the trio to shake off any rustiness before their tournament opener against South Africa on June 3rd.
Sri Lanka also possess a well-balanced batting lineup bolstered by the return of veteran Angelo Mathews, who provides much-needed stability in the middle order. They've got enough experience in their batting ranks in the form of Charith Asalanka, Kusal Mendis, Pathum Nissanka and Dasun Shanka among others. On slower pitches, their spin attack can also be particularly lethal. But the absence of a genuine power-hitter in the lower order might pose challenges. The ICC on Sunday announced the fixtures for the ninth edition of the ICC T20 Women's World Cup. As per the announced schedule, the event will take place from 3rd to 20th October in Bangladesh.&nbsp;
10 teams are divided into two groups of five teams each. The Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka and the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium will host all the games of the tournament.
The schedule was unveiled at an event in Dhaka, attended by Mr. Nazmul Hassan, President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board alongside Geoff Allardice, CEO of the ICC and the Captains of India and Bangladesh women&rsquo;s teams- Harmanpreet Kaur and Nigar Sultana respectively.
The top two teams from Group A and Group B will qualify for the semi-finals, scheduled for 17 October in Sylhet, and 18 October in Dhaka. The T20 World Cup champions will be crowned at the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on 20 October.
Defending champions and the most successful team in the event&rsquo;s history Australia will start their campaign on 4 October in Sylhet against Qualifier 1, whilst the highly anticipated fixture between India and Pakistan will take place in Sylhet on 6 October.
Ahead of the tournament, there will be 10 warm-up matches from 27 September to 1 October all taking place at BKSP in Dhaka.

Ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia, the Asian continental tournament gained its importance. Favourites India started their campaign on a high and defeated arch-rivals Pakistan in the group stage.
But the Super 4 round cracked up many of India's recent conundrums wide open. Death bowling emerged as the biggest problem for the Men In Blue as they faltered miserably in the 19th over on multiple occasions and finally got knocked out of the tournament in the Super stage only after losing to Sri Lanka.&nbsp;

"The powerplay is one of the important areas. I think the openers have to give us a strong start. If we get that good start, there's a better chance of winning. Any team is comfortable chasing, they are not happy to bat first.

"Most teams prefer to chase down the total because the wickets are such, it keeps getting slower and slower as the game goes on," Binny said in response to a query on what the batters' approach should be during the powerplay.
 Indian openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul have failed to give India a good start in the four matches played so far. The 23-run partnership against South Africa for the opening wicket is the highest stand for India in the ongoing World Cup Down Under.

In a format where Bangladesh have simply been ordinary for the past many years, the onus will be on their captain and star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan to offer them inspiration on the big stage.
The experienced Mahmudullah, their captain in the previous edition is not even in the squad this time around and with no viable options available, Shakib Al Hasan was asked to take up the top job.

In fact, just two days before the start of the tournament, they shuffled their squad once again, largely because of another poor showing in the tri-series in New Zealand.
They have brought in Soumya Sarkar &amp; Shoriful Islam into the squad, replacing Mohammad Saifuddin and Sabbir Rahman, after Sarkar &amp; Shoriful performed marginally better than the two players they have replaced. Saifuddin &amp; Sabbir, in fact, didn't even travel to Australia and have been sent back home from Christchurch itself.
